  1. I really like using Musical Vision; nice people and it's always easy to park :-)
  2. Hey everyone I want everyone to send me an e-mail telling me about all events that are happening in Aberdeen. Regular weekly night such as pub quizes, gigs, exhibitions, club nights, art exhibitions, academic lectures, everything!! All events that are open to the public will be organised by day and submitted for publication in a local Aberdeen publication. Please send the details to carmichaeljayne@hotmail.com Cheers jayne
  3. Aka Ska are the way ahead :-) aka-SKA :: serving quality Ska since 2006
  4. Hi everyone Does anyone know where I could get a quote for stage hire? It has to be big enough for an outdoor event. Cheers Jayne
  5. Hey folks I study music at uni, and need to complete an improvisation piece. I want to do it for voice, and the way I would like to do it is by using a mic with a loop pedal and an amp. Any kind souls out there who are willing to let me borrow their loop pedal? It would probably be for about two weeks. I am happy to pay for the privelage. Please e-mail me on carmichaeljayne@hotmail.com if you think you could be of assistance. Many thanks Jayne

    Vocal range!

That's physically impossible. the entire range of a piano is 7 and a half octaves, are you trying to tell me that Jeff Buckley could sing all of those? 1 and half octaves is ok for an amateur, 2 and a half to three is pretty good, anything larger than that and people are either brilliant or lying.

    Vocal range!

Mariah has 2 1/2 octaves if she is lucky, and even then her voice is unmatched so it sounds pish. She has no power at either extremes in her range. She is just a one trick pony, like many singers out there; no versatility whatsoever. This bloke has a very big range, but he also has power and technique behind it, which makes all the difference.
  8. Did you see the article in the Evening Express?
  9. Quoted from Barfly Aberdeen: 'A Bad Manners show somehow encapsulates the spirit or essence of a good time, a party band without trying to be someone else, something else or without trying to move with the times because the band represents what humans have always done when the opportunity and conditions allow. Drink, dance and be merry. This makes the band original, authentic and timeless, that has an appeal to an eclectic group, skins, punks, bikers, surfers, good timers, gig fanatics, Ska fans, nostalgic 40 somethings and students.' Support from the North East's premier ska band, Aka Ska.
  10. No probs. Sorry, I missed any references to vampires in the song, oops :-) Er,... Could be featured in an ad for garlic? :-)
  11. Yeah, have you seen the one off Queens Road? Why anyone would want to live there is beyond me. They are the slums of the future!! New build houses in general really bug me, as all the houses are literally two metres apart. We should just all save our money and build an Aberdeen muso hippy commune :-)
  12. Is that art? Hmmmmm.... I don't think the artist should have subjected a poor wee dog to that kind of cruelty. I have a suspicion that the artist was trying to address issues of human behaviour in his art ie. morality and social compliance. Questions such as to what extend do you obey your orders, and at what point do you ignore them? Although I agree this was sick and unnecessary, the artist does raise some interesting points. Anyone who went to that gallery could have fed the dog, but they didn't. Instead, they chose to obey the instructions of the artist not to feed it. I think that the points that the artist is trying to get across are valid, but he went about it in completely the wrong way. He should have put himself in that gallery and not the wee dog.
  13. Hiya I quite like this song, it strikes me as something along the same lines as Jose Gonzales. I can picture this kind of track being used for an ad or on a TV programme, and I mean that in a good way. The song definately sets a mood. You have a really good sense of rhythm, the drums and guitar never lose a beat, well done. I like that you recorded the guitar and vocals on one track and put in a bit of reverb, it really adds to the feel of the song. However, I think you could do with a recording of the vocals overlapping the vocal/guitar line, just to give the vocals a slightly crisper sound, and so the words are a bit clearer. I also think you should consider adding a few more layers towards the end of the song, so that you gather a sense of momentum towards the end, so the sudden finish that you have would be more pronounced. Cheers Jayne
  14. I'm bloomin annoyed that I missed it :-( come back to Aberdeen suggs!!

    Big Halls?

I think Mitchell Hall will be kept for graduations, but it may be that is the only thing that will be allowed. There is Elphinstone Hall, but it is used for a lot of different groups and would be difficult to set up with seating. Also, I think location isn't ideal. Cowdray Hall might be worth a shout, will look into it, thanks. Bummer, new income stream could have been given to the LT, dammit.
  17. Hey folks I am a member of the Uni Choral Society, and we usually rehearse at the Mitchell Hall in Marischal College. As I'm sure you all know, the building will be handed over to Aberdeen Council soon, and there is doubt over whether or not the society will be able to rehearse there anymore. Just wondering if anyone knows of a similar venue/town hall/millionaire's games room where we could rehearse? The choir is kinda big, around 150 members, and there would have to be enough room for seats and a place for us to make some tea and coffee :-) Geography is also an issue, we need it to be kinda near the centre of town, so that it will be relatively easy for everyone to get to it. Cheers Jayne
  18. The site doesn't give you details of how you can help....? Do you take Paypal? ;-)
  19. I think that there should be a fundraiser for the LT staff, not for bailing out the Lemon Tree.
  20. Lemon Tree I'm gutted that it's closed. My ska band supported The Beat there last year, and I remember feeling really proud that I was going to play at the Lemon Tree. It had some prestige, and was hoping to maybe play there as a headline act one day. I hope that someone out there will be able to rescue the venue somehow. My thoughts are with the poor Lemon Tree staff who have lost their jobs just before Christmas. I have a fiver too :-) and perhaps we can help the Lemon Tree staff with Christmas contributions such as cuddly toys and socks? ?(
  21. classical night Hiya Ok, I'll just leave it as Classical. I have a number of brass/woodwind players who were wondering what they could play, but since classical also includes works by porter, gershwin, etc and music from 15th century right up to the present day, I'm sure they will come up with something :-) To be honest I'm surprised that we managed to organise the night at all, Dr. Tricker was very poorly, so he was an absolute legend for playing even though he was ill. No less than 4 people canceled on me the weekend before the gig, and it was only some of my brilliant classical buddies bailing me out that we managed to go ahead. I will definitely change to an open-mic format. I will have some people on the bill but will ask them for smaller sets, so that there will be plenty of spaces for those who just want to come along. I will still have to charge something at the door, to cover the fee of hiring Dr. Tricker and his magic fingers for the night. Many thanks Jayne
  22. classical night Cheers, I really appreciate your positive feedback. I will definately organise another classical night, but I think I will leave it until late feb/early March next year. The format will change aswell, I think it should be more like an open mic, and also open up the genres that we play to jazz. A big thank you to Dr. Tricker for playing the piano, we couldn't do it without him. Jayne
