  1. I thought Frog Brigade went a bit too far with the "evil circus music" thing. Although thats kind of what makes Primus good of course. Brown album all the way.
  2. Anti-pop is the only dodgy album I reckon. Check out the new DVD "animals should not try to act like people" excellent stuff from all their albums - available in 1up for about 14.99 i think!

    Gonga

Ow my sides - I remember seeing this from a distance! Admirable performance!! Some night. Gonga's guitarist looked and sounded exactly like Jesus. A monumentally stoned and slightly satanic Jesus.
  4. Nicely timed thread! Ive finally got a live CDR sorted out which we were gonna sell for a pound at the gig the other night but in the end what with all the booze, gonga, drinking and beer I totally forgot. They'll definitely be for sale at our next gig which is certainly not this Thurs at Drakes. (For a pound!) Please remind me if im looking glazed. Since there actually appears to be a market for this sort of nonsense Ill take some to 1UP with me as well so get them there too anytime my smiling face is around. (For a pound!) Also they're available through wur new website - www.sidca.com!! There's downloadable gubbins there too. Incidentally, would whoever stole the Sidca t-shirt from 1UP own up now so I can cancel the Painful Death Disposal Squad contract. We know what colour it is you dick, and theres only 2 that colour in Aberdeen. We will find you. Hope the heroin kills you sooner rather than later, bastard.
  5. How did this end up as a discussion about Pink Floyd? Jesus christ. Fuck Pink Floyd (apart from '67 UFO footage era) But yeah Pink Floyd... bah! Gonga though, all you junkies who keep going on about being "toasted" and "stonerage" and stuff (whatever all that means) take a hit from your bong and give them a go at Kef on Fri 7th May, Im sure they won't disappoint!
  6. I liked it. Hadn't heard anything by yous before and was impressed. Actually liked the two instrumental tracks the best, not meaning to take away from the boys singing which was good, just that the style of the instrumentals was more my kind of thing. The singer did helluva good for a first gig by the way, will be good to see how that goes as he gets more confident and all that gubbins. Yeah good stuff all round, brought to mind the likes of Husker Du or Dinosaur Jr or something in places which is a good thing obviously! One question - what did those poor drums ever do to you, ive rarely seen a kit take such a kicking......!!
  7. can anyone confirm if John is playing yet? Feckin hope so.
  8. I like "the Salmon song" best. I can't believe Im involved in an online discussion about Fish Rising. Im embarassing myself.
  9. Just thought Id recommend Gonga to anyone who likes their rock stoned and their riffs low end and heavy! Obvious comparisons to the likes of Kyuss, Sabbath, etc etc. so if that stuff floats yer boat (which it should) then check them out!! Live tracks are available from their website at the moment - www.gonga.co.uk, in the gigs section which also appears to have a date at Kef listed for the start of May! DUDE!, AWESOME!!, RAD!!!, FAR-OUT!!!! etc. etc. We caught them at the Barfly in Glasgow last year and they're not to be missed. Gonga can also be heard at each and every Valhella night by the way folks. Details below. You know it makes sense in a hazy kind of way.
  10. LAAAAAAAAAHHNDAN GRILL! LANDAN GRILL #1!
  11. The appeal of Drakes was one of the main reasons I moved up to Aberdeen. (cheers drakes) I remember coming back up from Manchester for a holiday around christmas time and stumbling upon an Oi Polloi gig at the castlegate, and I fucking loved Oi Pollio!! I remember thinking that this was the kind of place Id hoped to find in Manchester and it had been up in Aberdeen all along, I just hadn't realised! I can remember the singer Ruaraidh was on ace form giving a big rant about Nestle drilling monkey's teeth and then throwing a wee Dairy Milk or something on the floor for everyone to stamp on, and show their disgust! Class. Pretty sure he set off the fire alarm that night too!?
  12. No, no, no... Thanks to you Jim for putting nights like this on!! DRAKES #1!
  13. yeh - the sonar yen soundcheck got filmed and some of the nomad am guys were interviewed i believe - did anyone see if it was broadcast?
  14. and as dave mentioned, whatever it was they were filming is apparently going to be on Grampian's North Tonight this evening (Fri). I think the show starts at 6pm. Those TV folks were right dicks by the way.
  15. If anyone fancied a copy of the Sonar Yen's new album "the slow picture" but didn't get one on the night, they've left copies with me so they'll be onsale in One-Up from later today or get in touch with me directly. it's excellent as you would expect, well worth checking out! Cheers to all the bands for playing - especially the Aberdeen ones who let me get away without paying them. (not paying them in cash anyway - you should hear what the filthy bastards suggested instead)
  16. Leg it down to drakes!! 8pm 3 - not to be missed for fans of so called alt-rock: The Sonar Yen, Dedalus, Major Major, Politik!!!!
  17. sorry choppy, that there job be taken, arr. im gonna play an extra special tune for your sweet cheeks...
  18. I reckon that translates as: "one of the best line ups in the history of everything" Lets try not to take the piss - we all know text messages are a bastard! Anyway he's right - its a helluva line up and is going to be a storming night! Check out the descriptions in the calendar if youre still unsure! Woohoo.
  19. apologies for the one-armed drum attack system! - hairline fracture in elbow, but didn't want to pull the gig... good laugh anyway. Hearse Crash were outstanding, as were SPD from what ive been told - had to skedaddle for DJing duties at moshulu in a desperate and futile attempt to make ends meet, sorry Hog, hopefully see you guys playing again soon??
  20. Well, Soviet Drumming System (second best drummer in Aberdeen if I recall) this is indeed an interesting issue, one which unholy Rimmon himself deemed important enough to justify reading your last post. Unfortunately he noticed your reference to "God":
  21. Live at Dr. Drakes - Wed 24th March, 8pm 3. The Sonar Yen - http://www.anexium.com/thesonaryen Up & coming Manchester noiseniks touring the release of their new album "The Slow Picture" (dist. thru Cargo). Think equal parts Jesus&Mary Chain, Sonic Youth, Mogwai and Joy Division, firing on all cylinders - woohoo, hold on to yer hats!! Major Major Edinburgh art punks who rocked the Lemon Tree's abysmal night to its very core last time they ventured North. Obvious comparisons to Sonic Youth plague them wherever they go, which I believe irritates them so I won't mention it. Dedalus Aberdeen's favourite hipster army re-emerge with all new drum attack system, and rumour of electronic experimentation entering the arena... or was that a dream? Only one way to find out...! Politik Local sex-toys on the up and up. After playing a blinder with Hookers Green and Delicate AWOL and with their inclusion on the recent Nomad AM compilation, things seem to be rocking along nicely for Politik. All I can say is that the cute little blighters deserve it!
