  1. We've uploded a couple more tracks from our Album for people to listen to here; MySpace.com - Katerwaul - Aberdeen, UK - Alternative / Ambient / Progressive - www.myspace.com/katerwaulmusic The CD is still available in 1UP for those who want a copy. Cheers and let us know what you think. Don't be scared to start a war by slagging it off. All feedback is much appreciated.
  2. The most hotly anticipated gig of the year. It may well even be the best gig of the year so far, who knows?!
  3. awww shit! Shaun you invited me today at kilau but Katerwaul are playin Moshulu. But I'll try and make it after our set because it sounds fuckin awesome!
  4. That were an awesome day of music!! Welfare Mothers for me stole the whole show with their set. John's home made lap slide guitar sounded amazing! Just about wept like a baby when they played Orchard. Had loadsa fun. Well done to Hugh the whole thing went without a hitch for a change. The sound was great, although I did see Jenni twiddle with the knobs for a while you cheater.
  5. Yes I am quite aware that gigs go on in there all the time. I meant post-rock/instrumental/anything-remotely-scaninavian/anythingwithviolins&cellos.etc other than just acoustic and band stuff. Thats what I was meaning.
  6. I spent the taking of Katerwaul CDs on Olafur's 2 CDs. Sorry guys but they are awesome... consider it research or something. Dave did an awesome job on sound. Peacock has to be my favourite venue for this type of thing. I saw Audrey there last year and it was equally as amazing. Can we expect more of this anytime soon??
  7. Ah just back from work after last night. Could not get out of bed this morning! Last night was fantastic. My throat is so sore from whooping in between bands songs and cheering at the end of sets then fucking my vocal chords completely after our first song. As for that first song, Dave I totally miss understood you last night. It was actually two very loooooooooooooooooooooooooong songs joined together. But not four, that would just be silly. Fault & Fracture were so good! I was expecting to like them but not expecting to love them. I read the reviews after their first gig, which must have been an off day because last night they were immense. Tight, dark and full of great guitar orchestration with an awesome deep bass tone. Drums were spot on too, they accent brilliantly with the riffs. Greater The Shadow as usual were flawless in every way. I just can't get enough of them. I can't wait until there's a CD so I can listen to them in the comfort of my own home. Kartta.... what can I say? The best I've seen them. The crowd were lovin it. The tunes got us crying one minute, shoe gazing for another, then dancing our tits of the next. I think I may even have seen Michael turn around about 45 degrees. Yup, amazing banter! Cheers to Greater the Shadow for getting it all together. Its a shame Albatross Conspiracy Couldn't play but I reckon it couldn't have been more fun.
  8. I remember when all the bigger bands that came to Aberdeen played the Lemon Tree instead of the likes of the music hall. But now bands tend to opt for The Tunnels and Moshulu. For the past few years they'd only have one or two things I'd be interested in seeing. Highlights for me were; seeing my first ever gig in Aberdeen watching Areial supporting Snowpatrol in sept 2000, Oceansize, Biffy Clyro and The Cooper Temple Clause on the same bill, weeping at "I See A Darkness" by Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, seeing Kelly Joe Phelps with a full band. (sniff sniff) Lowlights; Blowing all my cash on a Damian Rice Album on import in virgin for 15 resulting in me missing him at the Lemon Tree that week back in 2002. Getting into Sigur-Ros AND Godspeed You! Black Emperor literally the day after they play together at the Lemon Tree. ARGH!
  9. We will have CDs for sale at this. We are out of the special art work edition though I'm afraid. There are only the 'diet' editions left. Really really lookin forward to finally seeing Fault & Fracture! I was soooo gutted I missed that gig in the tunnels everyone raved on about. And Greater The Shadow are always awesome as are the mighty kartta. Whom I think should change their name (again) to the that. hmmm "The Mighty Kartta" I'm sure Hugh would love it!
  10. Not been about the scene much this year but what I've managed to catch has been pretty awesome. Kartta - add some much needed diversity to the scene. not only that but the songs are varied and well crafted. Greater The Shadow - Instrumental post rock is hard to pull off. But some how these guys never fail to pull out great tunes. Their music never gets boring or samey which is a problem with many amatuer instrumental bands. Welfare Mothers - Great tunes, great voice, great musicianship. Mark McCabe - May not be the best singer in the world but the boy is a lyrical genius. Ry Walker - Great chilled music. Beats the pants off Jack Johnson. There is always an award for best international act for any band out of town so I'd like to mention; Chutes - Saw them at the Lemon Tree supporting The Little Kicks. I don't mean any disrespect to Milne and the boys but they were out staged that night by these guys. The Kicks have proven themselves to be Aberdeen's biggest prospect and no one can argue their talent. But The Chutes that night displayed high octane beats and guitar mastery combined with a frontman that is fascinating to watch, handy too that he possesses a great voice. And I also mostly miss; Fiction Action - My reasons are the same as every one elses there's no need to go into detail.
  11. We would all like to thank every one for making our launch night a great success. Thanks to all the staff at The Tunnels for their sterling work behind the bar. And to Jenny for the immaculate sound. All the bands sounded huge including Captain Cynic himself armed with only himself and his guitar (and a few pedals). Thank you to Hyena who were awesome and I can't wait to see them again and anyone who missed them should be kicking themselves. Thanks to Greater The Shadow, these guys are gonna be big I guarantee it! They were flawless and their music produced so many mixed emotions at one point you want to cry and other points you wanna get a bit violent/aggressive. And of course Mr Alan Davidson for being the usual entertaining self. Why this guy isn't a global success is beyond me. Thank you every one who came along and especially to those who bought the album. If you didn't manage to make it because of the Dons game or the snow we have copies for sale in 1up as of today. Their are 4 special edition copies full of artwork and song lyrics. Thank you all agian! Katerwaul
  12. This is an annoying bump! We're just working on the Album art work and taking trips back and forth to the printers, but it looks fuckin cool if I say so myself. We've got standard CDs to be sold at around the 5 mark and special edition ones (between 15-20 copies only) price TBC on those.
  13. We've put together an Album and would like to invite every one along to the launch night. We've got Glasgow alt-rock band Hyena and The godfather of experimental folk; Kitchen Cynics. Also Instrumental post rock group Greater the Shadow will also be blessing us with a set as well as ourselves. It's gonna be an awesome night.
  14. Katerwaul and The Systemettes are the support. If you're not going to TITP then this should be a small consolation prize. Ta da!
  15. We, Katerwaul, shall also be playing. I've no idea about whats happening tonight we were a last minute addition.
  16. Yeah, she's worked really hard for it. When she told me about the audition a few months ago I couldn't believe it . I mean its not everyday one of your peers on the Aberdeen Scene tells you they might sing for Morcheeba or any other established band of such magnitude. I'm so happy she's got the gig. I feel like a proud Brother and I now have a real claim to fame, yeah! Before she jetted out to Budapest she did manage to record a short EP in Dundee so I look forward to hearing that. Congratulations again Amber!!
  17. Cheers for that. We've not played in a very long time and we were all a bit nervous. It was all a bit strange. I had to take center stage last night to make change overs smoother and it didn't help the nerves much. However Nick our drummer has never been in a band before let alone played live so I think he did a sterling job last night. We are trying to be different to Bench but we're just writing material as to how we feel and not trying too hard to be different. Thanks again.
  18. What an odd gig! Not only were there Jeniferever, Kartta and Parity's Fall but Jamesy book Katerwaul at the last minute too. Which I was totally stoked about (supporting one of your favourite bands doesn't come everyday). But then it turned out that Jeniferever had a touring support from the amazing Paul Marshall. 5 acts in one night. Jenni did a sterling job though. And all bands played great. Good to hear Kartta with the full line up. Jeniferever were amazing AGAIN. Turnout wasn't great and the guys have hinted that it would be the last time they come to Aberdeen... poo.
  19. Drummer Wanted for a new post-rock project that has already started. Think Deftones meet Sigur Ros. I don't want to list too many bands because it'll give the wrong impression but thats the basic outline. We don't care about what influences you personally (it could be anything from free form jazz to the wombles) as long as you're interested and can play the drums. We're looking to jam with potential drummers as soon as possible. If all interested could PM me or email me on tim_courtney@hotmail.com Cheers thanks for reading.
  20. It was the best gig I have ever seen in Aberdeen. The girls were telling me after the gig it was the best of the tour and that it was their very first encore.... And better yet they want to come back which is a proper rarity! Kudos to Sharron and Jim and of course Dave for doing such sterling jobs. Dave, I gotta say through out the gig I found it hard to believe that the sound system was only a small vocal PA. I thought that I was playing in the Lemon tree when I was on stage the sound was THAT good. WELL DONE!!!
