  1. I keep meaning to buy the director's cut of this... especially for the monster DTS track. Along with Ichi the Killer, this is one of my favourite Japanese films of all time. Incidently, Battle Royale II is being re-released on Japanese DVD as Battle Royale II Revenge (not requiem). This time, for those who can stomach it, there will be 17 minutes of additional footage. ...just my opinion... but the filmmakers need to lose minutes in that movie, not add more. Oh and it's unsubtitled and will cost you around 30-40 to import it here. I can think of way better recent Japanese movies to spend that amount of cash on.
  2. I've just recently started listening to these guys and bought tickets today woooo!!!! Favourite songs: Phantom of the Opera - Century Child The End of All Hope - Century Child Gethsemane - Ocean Born That's to the OP, you rule for letting everyone know about the Glasgow gig. (really happy)
  3. Aye just to let folk know, a few people (from other forums) have had shipping confirmation. So it looks like this set is on its way. Good luck to the rest of you...
  4. Aye it's quite a sensitive issue... The fact that they have already charged your credit/debit card means that the contract has been sealed. By law they must ship you the item at that price. However large companies are very good at wriggling their way out of situations like this. Even though it's illegal and you could take them to court (if you could be assed), they will most likely send an appology email plus refund your card.
  5. Just a wee heads up for anyone yet to own this fantastic series (my favourite animted series). WH Smith (online) are selling the entire collection for 14.99. Not bad considering I paid 60 for it earlier this year... Click here At that price, it's a steal. Hope someone finds the link useful...
  6. Please close Please close, sold/traded my discs on alternative forums. Thanks.
  7. Really? Tell me!! Saves me arsing around uninstalling/re-installing. Ta muchly.
  8. I hate MSN Beta 7. The reason is because of that stupid 'nudge' function. If anyone else has MSN Beta 7 and keeps nudging you, then it's impossible to get anything done. I keep meaning to uninstall it and re-install 6.2.
  9. You got a link to the article? You'd definately need a high speed net connection to minimise the delay.
  10. Hmm well I guess the Garage will be a lot busier now...
  11. It's even better if you have a decent track playing in the background, so easy to lose yourself...woah...
  12. Wasn't Evil Dead II a remake of Evil Dead? I'd like to see a sequel to Army of Darkness.
  13. Click the link Sorry if folk have seen this before but thought I'd post for anyone who has yet to see this. It's pretty neat.
  14. Just watched the Christmas Billy Bob Thornton movie. It's really funny, a lot of the dialogue is pretty sharp. I quite enjoyed it. I've never seen so much swearing towards kids. It's in the cinema now I think but I watched the unrated version (called Badder Santa) on US DVD, and it's got more 'profanities.' I'd recommend the unrated version as I think the additional scenes add to the humour. imdb link.
  15. Apparently there's some mumps outbreak going around. I saw the doctor today about some symptoms I've been having - most noticeably my cheeks (facial) have puffed up so much that I now look like a balloon - and yeah, he says I have mumps. It's really sore under my ears, on top of my neck. It's agony when I'm trying to eat or brush my teeth. Weird thing is that I've had the MMR vacine but apparently you need to have it twice to garauntee immunity to mumps. Just wondering, anyone else catch it? It's going around students mainly. Apparently the virus doesn't spread too easily, only when transmitting syliva (i.e. kissing, sharing drinks etc). My flatmates should be ok as I won't be kissing them but I guess I gotta be extra careful cleaning glasses etc. I told my mum and she's picking me up tomorrow. The doctor says that it's gonna get worse, chances of frequent vomiting and fevers. I managed to get a letter saying I won't be in Uni.
  16. www.ebuyer.com are excellent. They are generally a good 70 off high street prices (including delivery). In addition, you often get customer reviews/opinions on the products (in this case digital cameras) to help you decide. Google the camera model to try and get a better idea. Yeah 3.1 megapixels (or 4) is good for printing on A4. 200 should get you a really nice camera. I'd invest in a big memory card too, perhaps something like 256MB or 512MB. I have a 256 and I often fill it because I'm a paparazzi. I have a Sony DSC P10. It's 5 Megapixels but I NEVER use the full resolution. I often leave it on 3.1 as it's plenty to be honest. It has 3x zoom (which is the norm) but you may wish to have more... if you're on holiday and you wanna see things up close. The Sony Cybershot series takes pristine pictures, great colour saturation and reproduction. The battery life is fantastic... even leaving the LCD screen on for ages... my camera lasts more than a whole day. The video compression is good so I can take plenty of video (with sound) and still have room on a 256MB card. If a Sony cybershot isn't your thing then perhaps try some in the Olympus series. Some I believe are even water resistant. But yeah as mentioned, 200 will get you a nice camera.
  17. Wish my PC could handle this. I'm only on 256MB RAM just now. I want to ...*ahem*... 'jizz' as you say...
  18. Cool, some dedicated viewers here... traveling all the way to Glasgow to see a film. nullmouse, I agree... Tale of Two Sisters is one of the finest Asian horrors I've seen since Ring (the Japanaese original). It seems there are so many "Ring clones" that it's nice to see a film make use of a structure that is original and puzzling. The film absolutely messes with your head; superb stuff. Tartan will be releasing a wonderful 2 DVD set with subbed extras. Look out for it. I don't know anything about Versus 2 (I adore the first one). Anyone know if it's still the same director (Ryuhei Kitamura)? You may be interested in knowing that Versus has recently been given the director's cut treatment in Japan. The new fights are even more brutal (excellent camera work) but the greatest improvement is with the new DTS track. The entire room shakes with every punch to the face. Importing the DVD is expensive, may set you back 30 or 40. Sadly there aren't any English subtitles either, but that wasn't a problem for me as I could follow the story. Oh for anyone interested in The Grudge, here's some information about the Japanese originals. There are four Ju-On movies (all directed by the same dude who directed the American remake, he really should move onto other projects lol). Ju-On: The Curse Ju-On: The Curse II Ju-On: The Grudge Ju-On: The Grudge II I've seen the very first one (Curse) and it's pretty decent. I'll see the rest of them soon. The same house has been used for all four films + remake.
  19. It was censored by the distributors Miramax. They bought the distribution rights worldwide. The producers, (the Weinstein brothers) are the biggest bunch of movie rapists in the world. They buy Asian movies, redub, redit them to make sense for Western audiences and force viewers to watch that instead of the original version. In Hero's case, the Weinstein brothers felt the movie was far too long and cut 20 minutes off. I have the original extended Chinese release but this is the version that should've been released in the first place. The cuts had nothing to do with the violence.
  20. I dunno how many folk watched Hero on the big screen. I had seen it before anyway (when it was first released on DVD two years ago) but I had to watch it again in the cinema. Truly is breathtaking stuff. Shame it got censored to hell by the retards at Miramax. Anyway, Zhang Yimou's next Martial Arts film is the excellent House of Flying Daggers. Whilst not quite on the epic scale of Hero, it's still a fun enjoyable flick with plenty of awesome fights. It's out now on Region 3 DVD for a measly 7ish. Alternatively, you could wait til Boxing Day and watch it in the cinema. Distributed by Sony so it's 100% uncut (if the BBFC don't interfere). Review of the DVD is here.
  21. Just to give folks a heads up that this has been released in the UK. It's showing in Glasgow anyway, dunno about Aberdeen. Furthermore, it is uncut. Let's hope that Tartan do a wonderful job with the DVD, as they have done with so many of their recent releases. I got to ask the director Park Chanwook a question at the EIFF... was well cool. The Korean R3 DVD is now out of print, they are releasing an ultimate edition which looks fantastic but it's pricey... and it's missing the DTS track...
  22. Fantastic!! I'm glad you guys have heard of it and are interested. Truly is an awesome piece of cinema. Hope others will enjoy this as well.
  23. Movie I wanna give everyone an early heads up on upcoming Korean masterpiece, Oldboy. It won the 'Grand Prix' at this year's Cannes and is so awesome that Hollywood is set to remake it. (surprise there). You can see it uncut at the Edinburgh Film Festival this August (I'm going). Alternatively there is a Korean Region 3 DVD out that you can import for approximately 13 delivered. I have a feeling that it will be censored for UK audiences due to a scene where a character eats a live squid. The BBFC have a strong policy against the cruelty of animals, but this might just scrape through because the dish is a delicacy in Korea and the scene is not out to deliberately offend. So could be accepted due to a cultural thing. Oldboy is the second part of Korean director Chan-wook Park's "Revenge Trilogy," (after Sympathy for Mr Vengeance) where Park focuses extensively on the vengeance theme and investigates the consequences. Based on Minegishi Nobuaki and Tsuchiya Garon's Manga, this gruelling tale follows Daesu - a drunk man kidnapped and held captive for 15 years. Enduring brainwashing treatments and constant hypnosis, he is suddenly released without any idea why he lost 15 years of his life. Fuelled by revenge, Daesu begins a strenuous mission to discover why anyone would keep him prisoner for 15 years. Resulting in violent encounters with petty thugs and gangs, Daesu fits the pieces of the puzzle together, forming an unbareable picture that he never expected. Oldboy is cleverly structured and paced, utilizing a flashy introduction and one of the greatest climactic endings I've ever seen. The story is brutal and unforgiving, which seems to be a trait from Director Park, but is also very cutting edge. Filled with stunning photography, lighting, fights and dialogue, it is unsurprising to see why Oldboy won the Grand Prix at Cannes this year. Furthermore, the score is absolutely vibrant - consisting of a subtle blend of electronic beats merged with orchestral music. I am going to hunt down the soundtrack CD. If you were curious into experiencing Korean cinema, then I strong urge you to check out Oldboy. It's fresh, original and is different to anything Hollywood has ever created, which is why Hollywood are immediately remaking this. DVD The video presentation is very decent. Capturing deep, rich colours and accurate detailing, even in the shadows. The audio comes in Dolby 2.0 and DTS 5.1, so if you don't have DTS then you're screwed sadly. I wonder why there is not a Dolby 5.1 track? The extras on the second disc are awesome. Due to the movie's superb music, you can select tracks from the OST and the screen is organised to look like a trendy jukebox. Very cool. I cannot emphasise enough, just how excellent the music is in this movie, therefore this extra was a joy to experience. You also have a music video from Starsailor plus some documentaries (unsubbed) and trailers. The packaging is very smart - two slim digipacks that house a disc each. In addition, all the menus are in English (with little or no Korean!) making it easy to navigate. Bottom Line Oldboy is a fantastic piece of work from Chan-wook Park. A very challenging film that is executed superbly, with plenty of unpredictable situations that will astonish and shock the viewer. The current Korean DVD is spot on, especially with the cool jukebox containing the excellent Oldboy score. Set to be remade by Hollywood (which seems to be a trend with all the latest Asian hits), I'm telling everyone about this movie now so that you can check out the original first, long before the remake is made.
