  1. so that was the cover at the end, knew i recognized it! and yes hog strobbing goat are local, they're in the battle of the bands final next monday along with the ever impressive aka the fox and double jack. reckon it'll be a close result as well.
  2. but my favourite all time band of the 70's remains brotherhood of man....
  3. if i see it in one up tomorrow i may take a chance and purchase, you've sold it to me stuart! i like it when unfashionable acts terrorize the charts, remember when john otway got a top ten hit a couple of years ago with his version of disco inferno, was that not mainly conducted over the net? it would seem were a generation of PC freaks!
  4. the charts wouldn't be the charts if it wasn't littered with 80% utter pish but on the evidence of watching last weeks top of the pops (sorry all new top of the pops) its now 100% pish....
  5. yeah the goat are ace - 2 men, i guitar, lots of machines and loads of noise! perfect for a sunday afternoon with a glass of sherry!
  6. PIL - Metal Box/Public Image Caberat Voltaire - Mix Up Nick Drake - Pink Moon Buzzcocks - All three albums first stranglers album sex pistols - never mind the bollocks The Fall - Live At The Witch Trials Sparks - Kimono My House Kraftwerk - Autobahn The Clash - The Clash The Jam - All Mod Cons i'm sure there's loads more but its early...
  7. fair enough i'd rather have marillion in the charts than another fucking kareoke pop idol, some poor attempt at 'r n b' or faceless dance pish....
  8. is it true that marillion are so desperate for a hit that the singer has been pleading with fans to purchase three copies of the single so it gets in the charts?

    Smoking Ban

i think its enivitable that a smoking ban will be enforced eventually, britain is adopting its usual wait and see policy. i'm doing my thesis at uni of the tobacco industry and in my questionnaire 76% of respondents said yes to a ban on smoking in public and 66% agreed that the government were right to ban tobacco advertising/promotion.
  10. yeah that just about sums it up perfectly i think. i think the amount of bands who have played t break in the 10 or so years its been running who have actually gone onto any success is travis (when they were glass onion) and cosmic rough riders, though the fact they played the t break stage had bugger all to do with their success. i've also heard of bands who play the stage getting shoddy treatment when they're down there. yeah and the last point is particulary relevant, if your gonna hold a competition to find the best new talent (allegedly) then why not let them play with the big boys on the proper stages. even those bands who play at lunchtime get a bigger crowd than in the t break stage, usually hungover people smoking joints but hey a crowd is a crowd.

    Smoking Ban

be interesting to see how the ban works in Ireland....
  12. sadly your always up against a bigger name band on another stage/tent. for example when i went to see nero in the t break tent in 2001, they were up against the strokes and the crowd was mainly from aberdeen! just don't expect any a & r to bother their arses, they'll be far too busy in the hospitality tent getting pished.
  13. it works like this, important bods down in glasgow sit there and decide who will play, it usually comes down to which bands they know, have a decent profile and they think have a snippets chance of getting somewhere. its no big deal, the tent is usually empty anyway but its a free ticket to the event and the chance to play a festival stage.
  14. i think it is wrong to just have the heats in glasgow and edinburgh though it does give the lucky bands who got through the chance to play king tuts or the liquid rooms i suppose blooming waste of time though the whole thing if you ask me...
  15. nah there's been worse, trust me but i wouldn't name names!
  16. morrissey is worth the ticket admission price alone....
  17. i was listening to the session in scotland last night and they played little snipets of each bands, there was loads that i'd not heard of and there was a few hip hop acts in there as well so nice to see a bit of diversity as well. would have been nice to see more north east bands in the list but i've no idea how many actually applied!
  18. i really really want to go.... depends how much of my dissertation i get done over the weekend. but yes there is a good chance i shall make an appearance! don't hold your breath
  19. does he not sing with starfall?
  20. best and most original new band i've seen recently are aka the fox, hard to describe but they use drum programmes and a saxaphone to maximum advantage. strobbing goat are also worth a mention, one guitar, one vocal and lots of machines. cuts continue to improve since they are still reletively new dedalus too are pretty darn fantastic spike pile driver, sidca, maple, xs relocat, kitchen cyncis and real shocks are all worthy of attention as well. aye thats 10, at least me fried brain can still count.
  21. well who else would employ bri and ziggy? dr drakes have a 'care in the music community' stance to fulfill

    goNORTH 2004

Stephen your mellowing with old age ha ha, your saying nice things get your demos in, tis a worthwhile event to play hope that spanish dude from db records comes back again, first A&R man i've ever seen actually do his job (i.e actually go and see bands instead of scoffing free beer)
