yep i'd agree with that, it really depends what you want to do.

being an old fashioned kind of bloke, i'd recommend using a four track to put down basic ideas, i've got a fostex XR5 which i use with an alessis reverb unit and the quality is pretty good for a basic set up but naturally there's all kind of programs on the net now. i like the 'earthy' feel you get from a four track. e bay would be your best bet, but i would recommend a fostex.

thing is in the 80's at their peak everyone apart from their adoring fans hated them, for me you may as well have given that award to go west or spandau ballet though duran always had better songs, i'm a closet fan of their music but don't think they should have won that award, still after the spice girls won it a couple of years back, all credibility in a lifetime achievement award went down the toilet pan anyway, i mean bands like the stones and the who used to win it!!! i actually prefer the post original line up material, 'notorious' 'big thing' and 'liberty' are cracking records imo...
