  1. Nope, you can only buy weekend tickets. I'm not a huge fan of anthony and the johnstons, but I absolutely love broken social scene. hoorah for that.
  2. Last Saturday I stumbled into Fopp and bought six cds. Six cds. This from a girl who shouldn't be spending money... Can you hear me Clearly - a moshi moshi records compilation Tidal - Fiona Apple When the Pawn - Fiona Apple Strange Folk (another compilation) DJ Kicks - The exclusives They'll have to catch us first ( Domino records compilation ) The domino and moshi moshi mixes are both smashing. The week previous I bough sufjan stevens - seven swans and grandaddy - the diary of todd zilla, neither of which impressed me greatly. If I ever find the receipt I may well return them. I just bought that new sub pop dvd with all the videos on it. Hopefully that's my spending impulse subdued for another month.
  3. Fa's going? I am, I hope he's extra grumpy that night. What a guy.
  4. Well, I got up at 9.am on Saturday for my tickets. Don't fret they've not sold out quite yet but they will. Guillemots and Scissors for Lefty have been confirmed too. It's the Vicotria Park in Partick, walking distance from Byre's Road (and my flat woo!) I absolutely can't wait. It's going to be a time. Devendra's playing in Glasgow too so just see him down here and go to Indian Summer, winner. Well that's a stupid plan because apparently he's playing ABC on the second. But still.... it's going to be magic.
  5. Tam o' Shantie, I reckon you should join the Meadowhead tennis club. Membership is highly exclusive, but I reckon I could get you in. Maybe in the warmer months mind. If you're organising something though I'd be up for a game. I used to go play badminton at the bp excel gym in dyce. Haven't played tennis in forever. I'm up for 10 days, could do with some excercise so I look hot for my holiday.
  6. I have one. It's lovely. You can have it for a cool one million dollars. No but really, you could have it if you told me asap. Otherwise it'll go to some other lucky shmuck. thirty bucks. Travelling expenses aight.

    Neighbours!

What a sweet episode. They definately blew the budget on that one.
  8. Hah, this thing actually amused me for ages, all my friends and relations have now been facially recognised. Naomi Watts Lindsay Lohan Jodie Foster Christina Ricci The only boy I looked a little bit like was Elijah Wood, but let's be honest he looks like a girl anyway.
  9. Poor show, I was supposed to be coming back to work that night.
  10. Well one boy in my class is specifically designing a unicycle helmet. Good call by him I feel. Mine's going to be rubbish. I toyed with the idea of integrated video camera or something but it's just a bit of a novelty and not exactly hugely original. Think I might just go for trying to make it really comfortable. I have to make a freakin' model tomorrow, I'll need to research into different materials. With skateboarding am I right to assume most knocks are to the side of the head? What are the usual kind of situations that result in bangs to the head? Are the helmets all just padded with foam, or are there any kind of expensive ones with funky silicon gel or something going on? Also the clasp, an adjustable clip? Any ideas how that could be made more comfy? I'm going to go with the idea of those adidas shoes that just feel like you're wearing socks, comfy comfy. I might quote some of you shmucks.
  11. My teachers totally pushed the classics and seemingly safe choices, that is, stuff that has been written about by many a school child, and subsequently has plenty of secondary reading surrounding it. The stuff I regard as fairly generic like Val said. Having never read anything I regard as classic I wasn't hugely up for this and pushed myself through a few chapters from Hardy as recommended by my teacher. Boy, I could not relate to the characters or the writing style, and in the end I got my way and wrote about two contemporary novels "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides, and "The Miracle life of Edgar Mint" by Brady Udall. One was written in 2000, the other 2002, so there was very little information about them other than a few book reviews out of newspapers, and this was a problem since quoting from secondary sources is a great way of showing a deeper interest in what you're talking about. The fact I had to explain myself to all 3 members of staff about why I disliked and have never chosen to read any of the books like "little women" or "pride and prejudice" that most girls seem to love, really got me thinking about what it was that I enjoyed about the books I picked from the shelves of Ottakers, and there was a common theme of first person narrative. They were all written almost like autobiographies, a single character narrating how they dealt with a strange life, or a traumatic situation be it discovering you're a hermaphrodite at the age of 13 or getting your head run over by a mail truck as a child. You can see me spieling away even now; because I felt I had to justify my choices I really got into it and was genuinely interested in what I was talking about. For my secondary reading I read books about child psychology, and the popularity of this autobiographical fiction reflecting the reality-tv obsessed culture we're in. Before I knew it had rambled through 5000 words of psychological ponderings. ....and so to my point. Pick books you want. If you go with classics then you'll be relying on your personality to shine through your words in order to stand out from the other hundreds of essays that have been written on the subject. Do try and scribble some stuff down early on, even if it seems pretty vague or irrelevant, you can whip these notes out a few months down the road and kid your teacher that you've been working on it. Get them off your case for a week or two.
  12. So what's happening? I'm so ill-informed? They're building the bypass through my garden. I want a spot on Reporting Scotland.
  13. Sooo.... do you wear a helmet? If you do why did you pick the helmet you did? If you don't, why not? Why do you think there is so much apathy towards head protection when there are millions of serious head injuries every year? Are there any gaps in the market? Is there anything in helmet design that could be improved upon, to make them safer, or get more people wearing them? Yeah, general chat and helmet related comments would be swell. I'm struggling with this one.
  14. My Mum gave me a row when I returned from school having lost my new hairband. She said I'd have to buy a new one because she was sick of me losing them so I asked where it was from and she said it was three pounds from Asda. ...but Sunty had given it to me. Crushed.
  15. Yeah I was thinking present for Nikki maybe? I'm sure she liked the Mraz rhymes with jazz. Hey, Mum liked him too, we could get her some tix. NOT. She'd cramp my style.
  16. Yeah, he's playing the SECC earlier in the year then King Tut's a little bit later. An event for all the family I'd say.
  17. Well I'll be damned, who'd have thunk it. Not I.

    Neighbours!

Apologies in advance as I haven't read previous post... but, Sarah?! Let herself go slightly! She was looking monstrous, I'm still in schock. She used to be a babe, what an unfortunate turn of events.
  19. Yeah, our Henry J's meetups were the highlight of my stupidly long summer. I'll easy pass on my cds when I'm up again near Christmas, I'm assuming Malc will be home too, get the proverbial ball rolling just a little?
  20. My cd was the best by far. You should pass it around even though I'm in absentia. I think I maybe ended up with two. I'm pretty sure I have Zippy's.... somewhere.
  21. Advanced Applied Maths - A Advanced English - A Advanced Physics - A Advanced Pure Maths - A Nice.
  22. My cd was an absolute gem. All you sloppy tape swappers missed out big time.
