Most of the QB's above him in stats are a lot older - so not long term bets. Ryan, Stafford, Wilson and Luck are all great - but aren't as reliable. Kap, RG3 and Tannehill I'm not convinced by yet.

Right now, I don't see a replacement we could build a team on that would definitely be an improvement for the future.

I think Luck is better than Flacco now and has more upside. I think your views on Flacco are the views of a fan.

I'd take Luck and Wilson over Flacco. And id take Rogers over anyone in the league. No matter of age.

I'd also take regular season Ryan over season Flacco as well. Not playoff Ryan. Although he has never had a defence to speak of. The Falcons seem awful at drafting defence.

Rex did pretty well his first two seasons, I think the Jets went wrong sticking with him for so long (and the Sanchize).

Once they stopped being able to run the ball effectively and tried to rely on Sanchez (then Geno) they had no hope.  Pretty poor personnel moves and drafts didn't help either.

They obviously have to get in somewhat of an offensive guru as OC but thats the same for your DC if you get an offense minded HC.

I don't buy into the DC as HE = inadequate on offense. It's all about who he gets in and how he delegates.

It's his first head coach job which is big. But, he's got super bowl experience and his record for yards allowed speaks for itself. He's also from NJ and knows the team from his previous stint.

A nice and safe hire. Looking fwd to see who he brings in.

Most experienced coaches are much more well-rounded than the press make out too, they may make their name on one side of the ball but have often coached att three phases of the game. Rex is a funny one because his dad was such a massive name in defense too, so that's naturally how he's seen.

The recent book about the Jets (Collision Low Crossers) mentions a few times that Rex wasn't all that interested or involved with the offence.

I don't think it would be an issue for most teams, but because the Jets have struggled so badly on offence for so long I thought they might have gone with a more recognised offensive coach.

I finished it last week so it's fresh in my mind. It's not that he wasn't interested, it's more that he decided to give his OC full control as he did/does all his other coaches except defense. He regretted it later of course. I'm not saying Ryan knows shit about offense but it was one of his executive decisions. It's also a trait for which he's very much revered around the league.

I can understand why they kept Ryan for this past year. If a few things had gone the other way we'd have had a good season. A missed field goal and a botched timeout away from being 8 and 8 for 1. Secondly, who would have predicted Chis Johnstone would turn into a 1 yard gain specialist. Then theres Kyle Wilson being a bust and a few injuries at key positions. They never replaced Cromartie and Revis which you know Rex would have pushed for.

Players love playing for Rex Ryan, even the difficult ones, and that's a rare thing.

I would have cut Sanchez a year earlier and avoided the Tebow debacle. That was tanenbaums decision though.
