offramp
As part of SOUND Festival, The Lemon Tree & interesting music promotions present:DAMON & NAOMI with MICHIO KURIHARA + PICASTRO + ADRIAN CROWLEYThursday 22nd November 2007The Lemon Tree, 5 West North Street, Aberdeen AB24 5AT. Phone (01224) 642230Doors 7.30pm Onstage 8.00pmTickets 9/6 subject to booking fee available from the Lemon Tree Box Office, One Up (01224) 642682 and online at http://www.ticketmaster.co.ukhttp://www.lemontree.orghttp://www.myspace.com/interestingmusichttp://www.sound-scotland.co.ukDAMON & NAOMI with MICHIO KURIHARADamon Krukowski and Naomi Yang formerly of Galaxie 500 bring their dreamy contemplative folk-rock to Aberdeen for the first time - one of only three UK dates as part of a European Tour to promote their new album release Within These Walls. They will be joined for this evening by guitarist Michio Kurihara of Japanese psych-rock band Ghost. "[Kurihara] hasn't so much altered what they do as augmented it, often beautifully. The results are occasionally breathtaking.... rare and graceful" [MOJO magazine]http://www.myspace.com/damonandnaomihttp://www.damonandnaomi.comPICASTROPicastro are an amazing collective from Toronto based around singer Liz Hysen. To celebrate the release of their third CD, they make a very welcome return to Aberdeen after their staggering debut in May 05. As always, there will be moments of heartbreaking beauty and heart-wrenching despair, made via an even more stripped down instrumentation of cello, guitar and Hysen's use of vocals more as a lead instrument than just another texture in the mix.Picastro weave an abstract framework of extended, moody soundtracks [The Wire]http://www.myspace.com/picastrohttp://www.picastro.netADRIAN CROWLEYAdrian Crowley, a self-taught guitarist from Dublin, sings disparate songs with a deep, gentle voice, and writes touching ballads with a sensitive flair. The minute you hear Adrians soft, woozy monotone crack into song, and reverberate through the speakers, you'll drift away. He plays the electric guitar, rocking it around his waist, and bending the neck to produce a shudderingly ambient and sonorous ringing sound. His music hits you like the fever you get when you come in from the cold, sending your temperature soaring. [Fence Records]"A satisfying and beautifully rendered collection of melancholia." Alan Cynic
I agree with Graeme.....I've seen D & N with Galaxie 500 twice, and on their own twice....always lovely, especially when Kurihara is involved! Adrian is worth the price of admission on his own...mellow, intensely bewitching music. I know Picastro not, but expect them to be up to the usual IMP standard! His last performance for us at the Ivor Cutler tribute at the LT was great. Will be good to see him do his own songs on that stage.New album launched the weekend before this gig. Long, long overdue.
