This will be the IMP hat-trick Apostille on record & playing live is something quite special, a must see for his genuinely eccentric brilliance. 2018 saw the release of his new LP 'Choose Life' through the Upset The Rhythm, which is like your perfect band all rolled into one. Since then having seen Kathryn play solo many times or with Outlines, or the Kate Bush night at HM Theatre or the Theatre Cryptic solo shows, the result is always the same WoW, She has toured opening for Mogwai, The Twilight Sad and was personally chosen by Robert Smith to open The Cure’s, 40th Anniversary outdoor event in July 2018. Kathryn is a unique talent and she is unlike anybody else who is playing music in 2019/20. Without a massive promotion budget, she has amassed fantastic support from many DJ’s BBC Radio 6 Music and likewise BBC Radio Scotland. Go see her live and see what the fuss is about.http://kathrynjoseph.co.uk/STEVEN MILNEWe are delighted to have Steven Milne open this show, Solo shows for Steven are a rarity and IMP are delighted to have him play one of our shows again. As inspired by virulent garage-driven noise as austere avant-garde experimentation and driven by soundtrack atmospherics, jazz exploration and electronic dissonance alike, they've outgrown their original influences (Butthole Surfers, Eno, Goblin, Aphex Twin, Throbbing Gristle) to forge a sound both richly celestial and acidically synapse-scorching. It's a journey that's taken them to European festivals like Roadburn, Milhoes De Festa, Eindhoven Psych Lab and Incubate, seen them perform specially curated live soundtrack work in Romania, Cork and CERN, and led them to devastate UK events like Supersonic, Supernormal, Latitude, Bestival and Green Man - all the while forging forward heedlessly into chaos and fresh discovery anew. With their fifth album “Wraith” released by Rocket Recordings in early 2019, Teeth Of The Sea continued to blaze forth with enlightenment and irreverence to the fore. Who knows where they'll arrive, but be prepared to brace yourself and bear witness.“TOTS are merely vessels for a force operating somewhere beyond our comprehension of what can, and does, qualify as pop music” - Clash“A record of real and rare magnificence” - Drowned in sound“Full of variety and unpredictability, like the best science fiction WRAITH maps out a dreamworld of our times, a tonic against the deathly thoughts of the small hours.” - The Quietushttps://www.facebook.com/teethofthesea/http://twitter.com/TeethoftheSeaSeas, StarryDelighted to have these local young bucks supporting another of our headliners, expect psych, Fuzz, grooves, riffs and ambience. 8. IMP are delighted to announce as part of their European tour and a strong family connection with NE Scotland (see below) Purple Pilgrims (Flying Nun Records NZ)Psychic sisterhood and wistful wanderlust are the twin energies feeding lush ceremonial dream-pop duo Purple Pilgrims - AKA multi-instrumentalist, home producers Valentine and Clementine Nixon. Raised itinerantly in Hong Kong and on New Zealand’s South Island, with deep backgrounds in folk music (their great-grandfather Davie Stewart was recorded by Alan Lomax), the sisters adapted by devising their own telepathic inner worlds. After the Christchurch earthquake of 2011 levelled their home they migrated to the North Island, crashing with friends and sleeping in cars, eventually returning to China, where they began performing crouched sets of gauzy, angelic noise. Subsequent tours of Europe and America alongside Yek Koo, Gary War and Ariel Pink helped hone their sprawling, choral haze into leaner, more mantric forms. To record their first full-length LP Eternal Delight, the Pilgrims sequestered themselves in Tapu, on the western side of the Coromandel Peninsula of NZ, in a shed surrounded by native palms and birds. The isolation, stars, and river nightswimming evidently soaked into the music; all 10 tracks radiate spectral feeling and wide-eyed sensuality. In 2018 Purple Pilgrims collaborated with legendary Antipodean guitarist Roy Montgomery (The Pin Group) on his album Suffuse, alongside some of the eras€ most compelling women singers (Grouper, Circuit des Yeux, Julianna Barwick), the sisters lending their voices and lyricism to his enveloping sound. The making of their forthcoming album Perfumed Earth, saw Purple Pilgrims return to the birthplace of their debut record, where the isolationist sisters assembled a community of collaborators (both in person and remotely) to weave together the 9 track record from their forest sanctuary. Out of this pastoral solitude was born an album a world unto itself. With appearances by Gary War, lauded Lorde keyboardist Jimmy Mac, as well as six-string expressionist Roy Montgomery, Perfumed Earth is an inspired fusing of creative touchstones to achieve a singular, stunning vision. Purple Pilgrims are set to perform at Supersense Melbourne Arts Festival this August, with more dates TBA - they will tour alongside John Maus later in 2019.https://en-gb.facebook.com/purplepilgrims/http://www.purplepilgrims.netAn exercise in crystal-toned psychedelic dream-pop excellence…a masterful full-length debut from a very in-tune duo who have honed their recording and performance skills The 405Dark, spaceous, fantastical music rooted in mysticism and wonder, weaving ethereal tales of ancient, mythological grandeur. The Line of Best FitThere's about to be a new Hobbit movie, which means there'll be another round of curious people asking New Zealanders if "New Zealand really looks like that." And, indeed, Purple Pilgrims members and Christchurch-based sisters Clementine and Valentine Nixon make music that doesn't exactly go a long way toward diffusing the illusion of New Zealand as a mystical land replete with green fields covered in mist…manages to make isolation seem more beautiful than terrifying - PitchforkDirect from golden era 4AD Records when the Cocteau Twins still roamed... ghostly, hazy, ethereal, mystical, angelic, spectral, sensualThe GuardianPurple Pilgrims' sheer, lapping sound worlds, melded with ghostly vocals, are the sound of traversing unknown distances; the melodies are choral, but feel solitary too…there are spectres everywhere, suggestions of singing bodies and recognisable words that never quite make it through to the land of the living. 'Skin Sight' could well have been Laura Palmer's funeral dirge, its picked surf guitar reminiscent of the way that Lynch and Badalamenti were able to conjure something glorious and unsettling all at once The QuietusAlso delighted to have Barrett’s Dottled Beauty playing this showBarrett’s Dottled Beauty is what you get when you cross a Kitchen Cynic with a Pefkin. Nursing an obsession equally with Syd Barrett and lepidoptera, Alan Davidson and Gayle Brogan formed this duo in 2016, playing semi-improvised experimental folk, informed by their shared interest in nature, folk song and noise. "siren-esque psalms quietly stare, seduce and enchant, beguilement doesn’t begin to touch it, ghostly drone mosaics, which arrive trimmed in classicist vintage whose lineage ripples to a dawning of time whilst sonically balanced on a finite point located somewhere between the primordial psych folk utterance’s of Alphane Moon, Ghost, our glassie azoth and the bewitching trips of George Harrison’s ‘blue jay way' "https://www.facebook.com/barrettsdottledbeauty/https://barrettsdottledbeauty.bandcamp.com

Bilge Pump's style is post-punk with avant garde and free-jazz influences. Early on, the NME described Bilge Pump's sound as "unlistenable guff".They have since had various releases on Gringo Records, Troubleman Unlimited and Unlabel, and members have been involved with artists such as Enablers, Yann Tiersen, Polaris, Felix, Chris Corsano, HiM. Bilge Pump also recorded several John Peel Sessions, and received enough votes to be 95th on the list for ATP vs The Fans 2009. Following their debut album the Portuguese trio have released their huge second LP ‘Distress Distress’ on April 7 2017 via Fuzz Club Records. This record was heavily promoted with two huge european tours (one of 50 gigs, other of 60) during the years of 2017 and 2018. Alongside sold out club gigs in 14 different European countries they have been headliners in festivals like Spacefest in Gdansk, Fuzz Club Fest in Eindhoven, Paredes de Coura in Portugal, Psych in Bloom 3D Fest in Stuttgart or Label Mates Fest in London. 10,000 Russos have once again transcended the boundaries of psychedelia as we know it today; their dark, droning noise is twisted, distorted and pushed to its limit. ‘Distress Distress’ is so ritualistic and industrial it see’s their usual post-punk sound – a primal and celestial mix of The Fall, NEU! and Spacemen 3 – pushed within an inch of techno territory with its abrasive, metronomic rhythms. Since their debut self-titled LP,Russos have been touring Europe extensively and acquiring a cult-like following at a whiplash rate – their incredible performance at Liverpool Psych Fest was widely described as a stand-out set by numerous music publications and fuzz fiends-alike. With the entrance of second record ‘Distress Distress’, the band are showing no sign of slowing down either – redefining psychedelia with every hiss of feedback. Mixing the visceral squall of Mogwai and My Bloody Valentine with the murky atmospherics of Slowdive, their performances set overwhelming sonics to arresting visuals – an absorbing, multi-sensory show you’d be a fool to miss! 12. IMP are honoured to be hosting Kathryn's second album launch in Aberdeen. Frid 17th August 2018 The Tunnels (1) Aberdeen Doors 7.15pm FB Event https://www.facebook.com/events/2069827756610165/ Advance Tix http://www.wegottickets.com/event/443309 KATHRYN JOSEPH (Rock Action) plus very special guest Rick Redbeard (The Phantom Band) From When I Wake The Want Is (Released on Rock Action) When Kathryn Joseph says that “listening to certain pieces of music can make you know the truth of everything,” she’s remembering one personal epiphany at a gig in 2016 that helped point her to the contented life she now lives, but the same can easily be said of her own music. Intimate, fearlessly frank and with a fathoms-deep emotional resonance, Joseph’s highly individual expression was first heard on 2015’s Bones You Have Thrown Me And Blood I’ve Spilled. The dark, mournful beauty of that debut – which addressed failed relationships and the death of her infant son – bagged her the Scottish Album of the Year award against stiff competition, despite the fact that at the time she “wasn’t thinking about the record as something that would be of interest to anyone else. Really, it was just for myself. I was thinking, this is the only time I’ll ever do this and here are my favourite songs.” Thankfully, that thought faded and following several collaborative projects in 2016, Joseph now shares From When I Wake The Want Is, 12 songs of an equally devastating, understated intensity in terms of her heavily rhythmic piano work, striking vocals and vivid lyrics, but with a newly muscular edge and textured depth. It mixes new songs with material gathered over the past ten years that was at various stages of completion, but whose sentiments still resonated with Joseph, prompting her to write new lyrics. Marcus Mackay, who also produced Bones You Have Thrown Me… gives each song its experimental setting, making dramatic use of space and also provides drums, synth and electronics. Joseph (secretly) recorded her partner Kenny Oram playing piano at the start of both opening track “IIII” and album closer “^^”, while her daughter Eve, then four, can be heard reciting a piece of improvised prose on the latter. Recording was done at Mackay’s Diving Bell Lounge studio in Glasgow, in September of 2016. From When I Wake… is a compellingly soulful set that suggests Aldous Harding, Joanna Newsom, Talk Talk and Kate Bush as kindred spirits and documents both life’s traumas and their resolutions. These include Joseph’s niece’s grave illness a few years ago (via the poignant ode to survival that is “There Is No God But You”) and the grief she experienced after the split from her partner, which hit her with such overwhelming force during an A Mote Of Dust gig, but which gives way to thankfulness for their reunion (on the title track, “Weight” and “Tell My Lover”). “This record mostly came from the year of my feeling the most broken hearted and miserable,” admits Joseph, “but it is a weird circle shape, because by the time the last songs on it were written I was back with the human I love and still am. Most of the songs are my trying to turn the black hell feeling into something else, even when it didn’t feel like anything good was going to come from it. All of them are again my weird, creepy way of telling the truth.” Joseph’s “weird” truth telling involves the primal love and desire that speak to our survival in the world, rather than the romantic, sexualised notion of love that dominates mainstream pop. Her lyrics are rich with natural imagery and allusion – blood and bone, mouths covering mouths, snow on the mountain and witches burning in the woods – a vividness of expression she puts down to having grown up in the countryside in Aberdeenshire. “I felt like I wasn’t really a human until I was 14 years old,” she jokes. “I was very obsessed with animals and being outside and was much happier on my own. But I’m so not like that now. I blame Anne of Green Gables, because I watched that when I was 14 and suddenly I was obsessed with humans and being in love.” Joseph can’t explain her need for absolute lyrical honesty, but admits to being “obsessed with truth in real life and in my music life. I don’t understand the idea of writing something that’s not true – I think it’s an amazing thing to be able to do, but it’s not what interests me. For me, it’s about ‘this is how I actually felt’ and I think that’s why I love playing live, because I’m feeling all of the things that I am, then.” Of her lyrical interest in love as a life force with regard to her own experience, Joseph says, “it’s the strength of it, for me and the flip side of that – the amount of trauma it creates when you lose it. It’s the risk you’re taking, as well; when you love that strongly and you lose it, it can destroy everything for you. But it’s absolutely worth it. That goes back to losing my baby, too. I remember thinking that no matter how long you get them for, it’s worth it. To feel that amount of love is just… you have no concept of that, because you’ve never been in that situation before. When you have a child, you would never want to swap them for anyone else; it’s all about how lucky you are and how perfect this human is, even when they’re not perfect. That amount of love is very beautiful to feel.” She decided from the outset that the new record would be different from her debut and knew she wanted it to be “more metallic sounding and harder, with electronic details on it. That was really all I had in mind, but ‘It Will Lick You Clean’, for example – I would never have imagined the beat on that, but I absolutely love it. Now,” she laughs, “Marcus just has the job of trying to learn what he’s written, to play it live.” The pair have what sounds like telepathic creative communication, requiring minimal discussion. “I record my piano and vocals and then I leave him alone and he does whatever he wants,” explains Joseph. “I think of myself as someone who is very sure of what I want the music to sound like and for me to get it back and pretty much every song is like, yep, that’s perfect, is amazing for me. Marcus is brilliant at what he does and I am very lucky. Music for me is often about the shape of things; I don’t understand what key I’m playing in, but I know that shape I want the song to have.” Her personal favourite on the album – and its heaviest track – is “Weight”, where the rising and falling repetition of “we were the weight we are all of my bones thrown back into the fire” has an almost incantatory power. “It and ‘From When I Wake The Want Is’ were written at the same time,” Joseph reveals. “The shape of them isn’t normal for me, but the feel of them isn’t like what I’ve done before, either.” Also different for her was “Tell My Lover”, which was written on the fly, in between other song takes on the day of recording. “I’ve never had a whole song that came so quickly,” she says, “and I love it. When I was singing it over and over again, it felt like a witch’s curse to get the human I love back – and I was given it. I feel like I’m not a nice enough person for spells,” she laughs. “I think I’m much better at curses. In the song I’m cursing the feeling of love – the possessiveness of it, where you can’t help yourself and it’s taking you round and round and round.” In part, From When I Wake The Want Is is a record of transformation: it moves Joseph from the fledgling artist with very little self-confidence who took years to release her debut LP because she was “stuck behind the paranoia of the whole process; what would be the point of it and what if it wasn’t good enough?” to an accomplished auteur with a truly distinctive voice. It also acknowledges her safe passage through dark, choppy waters and delivery into newfound contentment, both personal and professional. “I definitely connect it to me feeling stronger in myself and about my life, in a way I didn’t before,” Joseph says of the new record, which she’s delighted has found a home on Mogwai’s Rock Action label. She was introduced to them by James Graham of The Twilight Sad, a fellow contributor to last year’s Out Lines community project (along with Marcus Mackay) and a Rock Action employee. “To have a band be your record label is ideal,” she declares, “although I feel like I don’t deserve to be anywhere near them. I am the luckiest little Scottish witch in the world.” May 1, 2018
  13. IMP & ACT Live are delighted to announce this special & intimate show. The Tunnels 1 Carnegies Brae Aberdeen Doors 7pm Curfew 10pm Advance tickets £12.50+BF are now available from the link http://www.wegottickets.com/event/423333 FB Event here https://www.facebook.com/events/922752271210725/ Out Lines: Three of the country's most intriguing, exciting artists come together as Out Lines to release Conflats, a gorgeous set of songs inspired by stories of hardship and sorrow, redemption and hope. The first detailed maps of Scotland from the late 1500s show the now East End of Glasgow suburb Easterhouse labelled 'Conflat', a name derived from the flat farmland where corn and wheat were grown. By the 1950s the area was being developed with the intention of providing improved and affordable housing for people on the city's outs...kirts. But in the years and decades to follow, Easterhouse became the backdrop to low employment, crime, riots, gangs, violence and substance abuse. In recent years the creation of Platform, the arts centre at the heart of The Bridge complex, has provided a centre point of creativity and community cohesion vital to the area's regeneration. In early 2016, Platform's music programmer, ex-Delgado and Chemikal Underground Records co-chief, Alun Woodward, asked The Twilight Sad's James Graham if he would be involved in the Outskirts Festival – Platform's annual celebration of largely left-field, cross art form experimentation, taking in the Easterhouse Conversations project. Graham was to choose an artist he wished to work with, before conducting a series of interviews with a cross-section of local people, with the discussions to serve as a basis for a series of original collaborative songs that would be performed at a one-off show in April of the same year. Based on his admiration for her 2015 Scottish Album of the Year Award winning debut, Bones You Have Thrown Me and Blood I've Spilled, Graham asked an initially reluctant Kathryn Joseph if she and musical partner, Marcus Mackay, would join him on the endeavour. Both parties were trepidatious at first. “I looked at it and thought 'that sounds daunting, Im going to run a mile from this',” admits Graham. “Everything I hate is having to write on purpose and chatting to folk I don't know and then writing songs about them, that's all of the most opposite things of what I want to do in my life,” adds Joseph. “It was pretty much possibly one of the most stressful situations you could put yourself under whilst writing music,” says Graham. “[But] we knew something good would come out of it. It wouldn't be a case of us dong something terrible, it was actually the opposite of that.” The conversations were harrowing at times, with tales of domestic abuse, substance abuse, incarceration, loss and immeasurable misfortune. But they were also surprisingly uplifting, proving the strength and resilience of people in the face of adversity. “These people came and didn't hold back, they told us everything,” recalls Graham. “It wasn't a case of you had to dig that out of them. They didn't even really know what the project was about… they didn't really know what they were getting themselves in for. I'd drive home at night just going 'fucking hell things aren't that bad, I've got nothing to complain about'.” Joseph cites the inspiration behind one of the tracks, a woman whose whole family had emigrated, leaving her behind. She felt unwelcome and isolated in the community, but Platform provided a place of respite, a place where she was able to make friends. “It was really sad but no one felt sorry for themselves,” insists Joseph. “They were all just really strong.” Graham remembers another interview, with a man who was a recovering alcoholic. “He basically was going on a downward spiral and somebody said 'come to Platform', and by the end of it he was involved in becoming an actor and all that kind of stuff.” “They were tough but also really beautiful,” adds Joseph. “One guy was obsessed with RM Hubbert and has learned guitar because of him and is now teaching guitar, he's like 15 years old and he's teaching guitar to other kids. For Hubby to be his hero and he's seen him play at Platform and now he plays because of him... and he's a little genius. Platform is amazing. They're all involved, they're all doing amazing stuff, it's just beautiful to see somewhere like that being totally used by people who wouldn't have these opportunities otherwise.” As Joseph and Graham absorbed their subjects' stories, Mackay took advantage of the acoustics in Platform's lofty spaces, recording snare drum samples in the public library. With the deadline for the festival performance looming shortly after the interviews had ended, the trio began writing. “It was quite a quick turnaround from the interviews to the show and it was terrifying,” admits Graham. Fortunately, the ideas flowed. “There were no guarantees of this working out at all,” says Mackay. “It was a really weird thing to have a gig booked and no songs.” The drummer picked up the harmonium for the first time, sending parts he'd written to the other two. “I just started playing it and all of a sudden a couple of songs came out,” he says. With the harmonium parts providing the skeleton for some of the songs, and the obvious time constraints, each of the three were forced to write in a way they weren't used to. “It's been one of those projects where everybody has been out of their comfort zone at some point,” says Graham. “[Marcus' harmonium] noise made me want to write and then James wrote whole perfect songs whilst I sat at home with three words written down,” laughs Joseph. “[James] kept sending whole perfect songs saying 'I don't know if this is any good' and I was like 'yes, it's perfect'.” On some of the tracks, Graham returned his lyrics the same day as receiving the harmonium compositions. “You know when it's happening quickly that something is working,” he says. “It only took me 25 years to do those other songs (from Bones You Have Thrown Me… ),” Joseph jokes. “So I was a wee bit worried that we had to get this done. Something in your brain thinks you won't be able to do it and then as soon as you start it's like 'oh' and then [the songs] come out. I was so miserable last year and it was a Wednesday we used to rehearse and that was the only day all week where I would feel fine. It was like, thank God for this, this makes me feel better.” With Mackay's producer's foresight and studio access, the idea to record the tracks as an album was born. He recognised that the songs were special, and deserved much more than to be lost following a one-off performance. “I thought it was an awful lot of work going in to creating all of that and doing one show and then that's it,” he states. Conflats is exquisite; powerful, innovative songwriting that shows the sadness, strength and beauty of human experience. Though perhaps not an initially obvious vocal or musical marriage, the combination of Graham, Joseph and Mackay feels effortless, with the distinctive lyrical narratives melding flawlessly. Hymnal harmonium and delicate, driving piano provide the underlying lifeblood of the songs, whilst instinctive percussion and bass synth notes are the heartbeat. From Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai a pivotal figure in the decision to put out the record on Rock Action Records, to some lyrical inspiration from Aidan Moffat's Where You're Meant To Be film project, along with Frightened Rabbit's Scott Hutchison's involvement in the cover artwork, the album's journey to release has been shaped by some of Scotland's finest artists. It was recorded by Mackay at The Diving Bell Lounge, mixed by Castle of Doom's Tony Doogan and mastered by Frank Arkright at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. LOMOND CAMPBELL (Heavenly Records) We are well chuffed (& so are Out Lines) to have the return to Aberdeen & IMP of Lomond Campbell. Lomond will be the perfect opening for Out Lines Lomond Campbell hails from the Scottish Borders, ached for Aberdeen and, for many years, was lodged as a lamppost in Leith, Edina. More recently (to you & I), he tore himself out of the city, uprooted, left Auld Reekie’s ancient urban burst behind (carrying a sack of sun shaft and shadow) and set forth fur the Highlands. Here he found a derelict, wheezing school, on the skirt of a stunning Loch, with Ben Nevis brooding overhead like a bull seal ready to brawl. Do you picture that? Try harder please, strain like skies do until you see birds there and fish puckered lipped below – so still and serene but not really silent at all. This school became THE recording studio, the cauldron from which Black River Promise bubbled up and was brewed. Black River Promise’s musical landscape is as charmingly disparate as Campbell’s own geographical movements, winks and burdensome talents. From white noise to near silence, these songs will take you The Lengths, a testimony of which is made in a track of that very title (covered and performed regularly by Campbell’s comrade and sparring partner King Creosote). The grit and staggering melancholy in Campbell’s voice reaches a crescendo (pour moi) in Hurl Them Further, whilst wily traces of his international escapades unfurl, bittersweet, from within Brutes in Life – this hedgehog opens like an old boot untied, spikes inawl. Campbell’s well-kent aptitude for lyrical lustre and churning out complex, yet perfectly dirty, pop enters new realms with Black River Promise. Two instrumental tracks recorded live in a five hunner year old castle wi a 10-piece string ensemble whisper, wail then wander out into the ether around you. These gargantuan and gossamer sounds – harvested by cellist and arranger Pete Harvey – dance daintily in their Fallen Stag; whilst you’re best advised to run and hide from the growl in their undulating Acharacle. Lomond Campbell, inter alia, is a BAFTA winning songwriter and Scottish Album of the Year Award shortlister – with regular plays on many BBC networks. His cult FOUND collective cooked-up chocolate vinyl, built egoic ruminative robots and experimented with sound, light, olfactory and sensory triggers so as these songs might now pulse into mellifluous perfumes. His voracious musical appetite and genre-bursting abilities are regularly on display on this record, in his collaborations and within his programming of Triassic Tusk – a record label he co-founded with Whisky Guru & DJ Stephen Marshall. Lomond Campbell has a thing for the noise; is a wet cigarette relit and plump tyres crackling to a halt on busy gravel to deliver the message you’ve been waiting for – you were always the only one. Old scarred hands have never been so light and bright, of love and loss! Let’s jump in the deep end and cheapen it ALL? The sun that rises in these songs and furnishes the landscape with filigree nets, for miles and years, is the same sun that burns you when if fall asleep drunk. Black River Promise brings all the complexity of faith - Michael Pedersen, Poet / Neu! Reekie! / Fan https://twitter.com/LomondCampbell http://heavenlyrecordings.com/artists/

  20. IMP are delighted to have the return of Jeffrey Lewis after his fantastic debut Aberdeen show a few years ago. Also on tour is the wonderful The Burning Hell who are an extraordinary live band. The two artists are doing a host of Scottish dates together before and after festival dates Jeffrey Lewis (Solo) + The Burning Hell + Rebecca Dunn Wed 6th Sept, 2017 The Tunnels Aberdeen- Doors: 7:30pm Children 14+ with adult Advance Tickets £9.50+BF from this link: https://www.wegottickets.com/event/408046 FB Event here https://www.facebook.com/events/867124020105494/ ... SOLO BIO: JEFFREY LEWIS (2017) Born and raised New Yorker Jeffrey Lewis is a comic book artist and indie-rock musician, sharing some aesthetic songwriting territory with the likes of Sebadoh, Lou Reed, Jonathan Richman or Kimya Dawson. Beginning with homemade lo-fi cassettes in the late 90s, and moving on to touring the world and releasing "proper" albums since 2001, Jeffrey's career has included sharing bills and tours with The Vaselines, The Fall, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Roky Erickson, The Mountain Goats, Daniel Johnston, Devo, Pulp and many other luminaries. In between his contemplative folk narratives and garage indie-punk songs Jeffrey is known for including illustrated songs in concert, sometimes covering historical topics (like "The History of Communism"), or strange flights of fancy (like "The Creeping Brain"). Usually touring with his full rock band, Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts, Jeffrey also occasionally tours as a solo acoustic act. Rough Trade Records (label of The Smiths, The Strokes, etc.) has recently released the seventh Jeffrey Lewis album, “Manhattan,” mixed by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., War on Drugs) and acclaimed in Magnet, Uncut, AllMusic, Les Inrocks and other press outlets; Jeffrey has self-published twelve issues of his comic book series Fuff, and his writing, illustrations, comic books and music have been featured by The Guardian, The History Channel, NPR and The New York Times. QUOTES: "Weird? Very... but also downright inspiring" (four of five stars) - Rolling Stone “Mind-blowing" - NME "Bizarre but brilliant" - Uncut "Dazzling" - Mojo "Hands down my favorite contemporary songwriter" - Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) “[Jeffrey Lewis is] The best lyricist working in the US today.” - Jarvis Cocker (Pulp) "Jeffrey is the only artist I've sent fan mail to.” - Jens Lekman "Really great and impressive and inspiring and exciting... There's not a lot of people that can tell a story and use language like that in music." - Will Oldham Ariel Sharratt and Mathias Kom are the core members of the Canadian band The Burning Hell, and have been on the road in one form or another since 2007, playing everywhere from the chaos of Glastonbury to the loneliness of the Arctic Circle, popping up in bars, festival tents, living rooms, abandoned bunkers, and a mental asylum in rural France along the way. Musically, the lineup and sound of the Burning Hell has been ever-changing, running the gamut from introspective folk to hyperactive rock and roll. When Ariel and Mathias tour as a duo, the songs are stripped back and the storytelling and lyrics take center stage, whether it's upbeat pop songs, dark ballads about pet euthanasia, or anthems for barbarians, economic conferences, and love. Ariel and Mathias recently released their first duo album "Don't Believe The Hyperreal" and are preparing for the release of the eighth Burning Hell album, "Revival Beach," which revolves around love songs for the end of the world. QUOTES "The wordy songsmith behind Canadian quintet The Burning Hell, Mathias Kom has a dry wit and sharp eye that elevate indie-rock tunes into offbeat storytelling treats." Uncut Magazine "Those who love The Burning Hell really love them, and can't wait to share their respect for creative driving force Mathias Kom's hyper-literate, warm, and witty stories...Kom’s rapid fire lyrics contain deep emotional depth and wide narrative breadth while keeping a common touch. The Digital Fix "[On Don't Believe The Hyperreal] Ariel and Mathias open themselves up both emotionally and artistically: it could be a mess but it’s actually a tight disciplined look at love in the 21st century. Americana UK "Canada's The Burning Hell write the kind of literate, funny, catchy songs that makes you want to learn all the words and shout them passionately back in their faces." Drowned in Sound "Kom sings what he sees, from truculent kids and their smugly indulgent parents to corrupt corporate greed, to some things he doesn't: Norse gods and the futility of cults. His half-spoken baritone will appeal to fans of punk vet Jonathan Richman, the music to those of pioneering alt-rockers They Might Be Giants. If that sounds a little too collegerock clever, rest assured that Kom's music falls on the right side of the indie rails, knowing but always careful to let the listener in on the joke." Q Magazine "Even Jesus is going to enjoy this once he finally gets here." Tom Robinson, BBC Introducing Rebecca Dunn Is a local singer/songwriter and a lot more as well. We have kinown her for about ten years via UoA. What we didn't know until the last year she is singer with a quite wonderful voice. Please come along early to get some appreciation of this and a lot more... www.facebook.com/rebeccadunnmusic.

The results, as you can tell, are remarkable... As you would expect with such a heritage of world-class groups behind them. But Bdy_Prts are a very different, and rather more shiny, beast! Taking synths, electronica, 90's R'n'B, indie and even some folk touches, their sound miraculously transports you to future-pop dimension where hooks, melodies, beats and bleeps collide; and synchronized dance-moves, day-glo outfits are glittery ponchos are definitely the order of the day - they even dressed me in a 'space taco' for our customary group shot. I wasn't complaining though! Some of our on-air chat was a fairly surreal too...One of the stars of the recent Running UP That Hill the songs of Kate Bush show at True North Festival, their band show here will be an absolute party treat. http://www.bdyprts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/bdyprtsband/ https://twitter.com/bdy_prts KATHRYN JOSEPH (SOLO) Prior to her debut release, Kathryn Joseph was regarded one of Scotland's best-kept secrets; prodigiously talented and criminally underrated her voice possesses the other-worldly quality comparable to Ms Newsom and Björk; but she is by no means of an ilk. Her research focuses on the performance of authentic selfhood in contemporary U.K. spoken word poetry. Katie placed second in the 2015 Scottish National Poetry Slam and has performed across the U.K., including at the StAnza and Wickerman festivals, Rally & Broad, and St. Mungo’s Mirrorball. She organises, composes, and performs with the spoken word collective Loud Poets, including touring with them to the Brighton, Prague, and Edinburgh festivals. She released her first collection, Homing, in 2015, and was published in the House of Three anthology series in 2016. https://kathrynailes.wordpress.com/ https://www.facebook.com/kathrynailespoet/ https://twitter.com/KathrynAiles Sacred Paws After the successful sell out of their debut EP to Rock Action last year, the label announce the release of Sacred Paws’ full album early 2017. This double A side single features the first two tracks to be taken from that album. The band’s infectious high energy rhythms have gained fans such as Marc Riley on BBC6 Music. Sacred Paws are almost immediately infectious, a whirr of energy which blends high-life rhythms to skittish guitar lines, dervish drumming and sighing, over-lapping vocals. The Glasgow two piece - Rachel Aggs (also of Trash Kit and Shopping) on guitar, Eilidh Rodgers on drums – formed while members of much loved noise pop group Golden Grrrls. Quickly finding their own, quite distinct, identity, Sacred Paws have become cult fixtures in Glasgow. There's a charming, not-quite-finished feel to their music which only seems to enhance its personality, while the post-punk, poly-rhythmic approach to percussion leads the duo into effortlessly funky realms. New EP 'Six Songs' was out on March 16th via Rock Action, and it's a superb introduction. Each track is part-song/part-chant, with the delicately arranged, multi-layered vocals forming a nest of love, loss and intrigue.Recalling The Raincoats, The Slits' oft-overlooked second album or even the Dunedin set on Flying Nun, Sacred Paws have hit upon something very special indeed. This should appeal to anybody who likes their songs short and sweet with an uplifting feel of summery punk pop. https://www.facebook.com/sacredpawsband/ https://twitter.com/sacredpawsltd https://www.thelineofbestfit.com/new-music/discovery/sacred-paws-everyday The Lovely Eggs Following the release of their critically acclaimed album This is Our Nowhere last year and their sold-out tour in April, champions of the UK underground scene The Lovely Eggs hit the road again this Autumn for another round of sensational punk rock gigging. This time they alight in Newcastle, Halifax, Hull, Northampton, Oxford, London, Southampton, Bristol, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester's Gorilla, to play their biggest headline gig to date. This Is Our Nowhere garnered an 8/10 review in NME and much support from BBC 6 Music, including two sessions for Marc Riley in 2015 alone, who made their most recent single 'Goofin Around (in Lancashire)' one of his top tracks for 2015. The 7" was released on limited edition and mega-collectible “fried-egg vinyl” on their own label Egg Records. The Lovely Eggs continue to cement their reputation as one of the most exciting, innovative and genuine bands of the Great British Underground scene and have been selling out venues across the country without the help of management, booking agent or record label support. With songs firmly set in the hum drum of everyday life, The Lovely Eggs turn normality on its head, squeezing it through their peculiar surreal mincing machine and blending it with fuzzed out guitar and crashing drums. For Holly and David being in a band is a way of life. And they approach it in a unique way laughing in the face of life's absurdities. They are a rallying point for anyone that sees life for what it is. A mess. A wonderful, car crash of experiences, greeting each new chance with a cheeky grin, a sneer and a big fuck you to the pricks. "One of the country's most beloved underground bands. 8/10"- NME “You won't hear another band like this anywhere between now and the the end of the millenium. The Lovely Eggs are just brilliant!”- Huw Stephens, Radio One http://www.thelovelyeggs.co.uk/ https://www.facebook.com/thelovelyeggs Kathryn Joseph + Bdy_PRTS + The Lovely Eggs + Sacred Paws + Katie Ailes (Loud Poet)
