Guest bluesxman
I had to think about the 80s really hard but there was still quite a few that i could've put on there. The 90s was an absolute nightmare o_OSince the thread is about albums of the 00's you could have saved yourself some pain

Guest Steven Dedalus
I forgot about "Echoes" by the Rapture....I was quite fond of that album when it came out, and I remember 'House of Jealous Lovers' being a bit of a summer anthem that year (04 was it?)Good times.I'm also surprised that At-The Drive in haven't made the list either (other than the honourable mention from Ms Sharon.) Guest Steven Dedalus
"House of Jealous Lovers" is my official anthem of '03. I have rambling memories of going to Funhouse gigs at the Lemon Tree and letting loose on the floor - You were there too, Steven. The album was also a stormer. I can't recall if it was released Christmas '02 or early '03.As for 'Antics'. Every track is good... "Not even jail" being the gem of the album imho.Christ almighty... I do have a vague recollection of that. I was at the height of my 'patronising dancing' phase and could bust moves that should be declared illegal. As for 'Antics', never been convinced of it. As I've always said about it, if it had been released first, it'd be brilliant. As it stands, it's just a retread of "Turn On the Bright Lights" but without the freshness. There are some cracking tunes on 'Antics', and there are a few duds on 'Turn on the Bright lights' but it has the edge for me because of the shock and surprise I felt upon first hearing it. "Other people like Joy Division and the Bunnymen as well? Wow!"Dedalus had been brewing when that came out, and we were finding our feet with our original material, but that album gave me focus and courage as an arranger to try out what I really wanted to do, and the difference between what we'd been playing live and what we came up with afterwards is light years. Not that I'm saying that we built ourselves by rippin' off Interpol, but you know what I mean.(personally, I think they ripped me off, but I have no conclusive proof of that.)(I'm being sarcastic, by the way.) See, now I like Turn On The Bright Lights, but find Antics a much stronger album in terms of actual tunes, TOTBL tails off for me towards the end due to lack of variation in the material, and also while listening to that album for the first time I could safely say they owed a fair debt to Joy Division, I think they established themselves better with Antics on their own merits. Also the presence of Slow Hands and Evil on any album make it better than 99% of any other album, amazing songs.

I guess for me they just arrived on my proverbial doorstep, full formed, and ready to distil everything I liked about music. And then all they did next was do it again. Like I say, if i'd got into 'Antics' first, I'd probably prefer it (with the exception of that horrible ballad at the start, which I feel was lazy, indulgent rubbish, and made them sound like the Killers or something.)I just got given the new album to review, so I'm curious to hear how that comes out. calum
Personally I prefer 'Turn On The Bright Lights' by far. For me, 'NYC' and 'Leif Erikson' are the best things they've ever done

Paranoid Android
For me Antics was a huge disappointment. TOTBL is great but Interpol seem to have lost something since they made it and I don't expect them to make an album as good again. Sadly. Guest Steven Dedalus
Hate to be nosy, but what is 'patronising dancing'? Sounds like a marvellous concept...Patronising dancing is a concept that I pioneered throughout 03 - 05 where the person in question shakes about like a total dickhead, sarcastically mocking the concept of dancing. It's also intrinsically linked to being a total dickhead.
