Guest Zeenat Aman
http://story.news.yahoo.com/fc?cid=34&tmpl=fc&in=World&cat=Pope_John_Paul_IIHow long do you think he's got left?Do you for see any problems in the future after he dies, what with the vatican's (impotent or not)influence etc.
Rachie
I was just commenting on that to someone. "The popes dying... properly for a change..." Apparently he's being read the Last Rites so the vatican obviously think he's nearing his end...
Wishbone G
To be honest, im expecting the news channels to whip out the "breaking news" clipart at any time now for his death. The problems i see are a bunch of whiney busybodies arguing over who gets to be the next pope. Besides, the vaticans influence is no doubt waning.Out of interest. Does the pope get paid? If so, by who, and where does the money come from?
Rachie
I dunno about salaries etc, but as for his successor apparently there's alot of controversy about whether or not they're allowed to discuss who could succeed him etc in the Vatican... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/4300479.stm
Wishbone G
not for personal financial gain, sure. But what i mean is, how does he afford to live? You know? Who pays for his food?
PaulDW
Having lived in Italy... And already had folk on the phone upset... Apparently there is strong rumours of his demise there... And I would agree that I don't think there is long to go before that new Breaking News cycle comes along...The Vatican, and Italians in general do not hold press conferences to assembled press at 11:15pm onwards normally... Something is definitely up... Mind you, I think everyone has seen his demise over the last months... He is not a well man, and hasn't been for a long time, and there is no respite for a man in that position regardless of age or health...
