  1. I have another confession - I really like a lot of Take That's new stuff. For example, The Flood is a very catchy tune.
  2. If you're going to do it, only do it when you're drunk. And the guy will likely boast to his mates about it so be prepared for that too.
  3. Grew in in BOD, went to Forehill Primary School then moved to Thailand then Singapore then Australia with my Dad's work. Returned to Aberdeen when I was 17, got a flat in Garthdee with my then girlfriend, that went horribly wrong and moved back in with my Mum in BOD, met another girl, moved into a flat on King Street, had a daughter and moved into a house in Danestone. We split up, moved into a flat in BOD myself for a couple of years and moved into town last year. Moving in with my girlfriend in April to a flat on Thistle Street. Always thought I'd have left Aberdeen years ago but having my daughter was obviously a major turning point for me. Won't be moving away til she's at least school age (this year actually) and even then, it wouldn't be far. Plus, the DANDIES are here.
  4. Unsure - the aforementioned threesome did NOT involve Milner that I'm aware of
  5. I agree. Poor form. Also, I'm sure Little Green could have a guess at what would be involved. I've done the whole threesome with a couple and it's........awkward afterwards. Especially if you see the husband in the pub or the wife in ASDA. My confession is - I know MilnerD and have met him several times. I like his headsets.
  6. Friday - gig in Newmachar Saturday - girlfriend's brother's 21st birthday so a party at his Sunday - DEID
  7. My avatar is the artwork for our new single
  8. Haha, where was this rehearsal at?
  9. Newmachar Hotel. Our singer has a little promotions company that's putting it on - another good band are playing as well, Northern Lines.
  10. It's in Newmachar. It's miles away. Come to the one at Snafu next Thursday (26th) or Drummonds a week on Saturday (4th Feb) Ta
  11. Watched The Dark Knight for the first time on Friday night - it's made it into my top 10 films of all time. Watched The Taking of Pelham 123 on Saturday night - it did not. All day practice yesterday in preperation for our first gig on Friday :scared:
  12. In a similar vein to the unusually named JakeBassist, my name is Mark and I am a drummer.
  13. I shall see you in Slains on the 30th
  14. Local indie rock band Uniform release their debut single 'Is This Just What it Takes?' on the 16th January. Available for just 79p from iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other selected music stores, the band have had positive reviews from the local press as well as local and national radio. Local gigs; 20th January - Newmachar Hotel 26th January - Club Snafu 4th February - Cafe Drummonds 7th February - Blue Lamp www.facebook.com/weareuniform www.weareuniform.tumblr.com
  15. No bother mate, always nice to see a 'new angle' from bands from the city. When's your next gig?
  16. As a member of a new band in Aberdeen, I'm not quite sure what to expect when we play live - have a few gigs lined up for the end of January and throughout February - I guess it depends on how well you promote your gigs. I went to see a band on Monday night at Drummonds (granted, an almost improtu gig which was poorly promoted on a Monday night isn't going to draw the biggest of crowds) and there were a fair few folk there. Don't think the 'scene' (hate that word) has changed as much as some folk in this thread have stated, the mediums available for advertising has changed - as someone mentioned above, Facebook and other social media have become the main tool to promote gigs, not like the 'old days' where word of mouth and posters were your main resource. Like I say though, I believe that the amount of folk turning up to your gigs is massively dependant on how well you promote it yourselves (and in some cases, how well the promoter does with his/her campaign) My band is Uniform by the way
  17. Afternoon Folks, Anyone know of any alternatives to Captain Tom's for cymbal hire? I need 2 crash cymbals, a ride cymbal and 2 stands for this Sunday. I'm waiting for my kit to come from abroad so don't have my cymbals just now I've hired from Tom's before and at £27 a day, it's not exactly cheap and one of the crash cymbals I had last time had a crack in it. Cheers, Mark
  18. Local promotions company Open Minded Music are hosting their second event at the Newmachar Hotel with new local bands being the theme for the night. UNIFORM Uniform play their first gig as a group, following the release of their first single 'Is This Just What it Takes?' on the 16th January (available on iTunes, Amazon and selected music stores) - over the last month or so, they have recorded new material and have several gigs lined up for the end of January/beginning of February. This gig precedes another one at Snafu on the 26th January and one at The Blue Lamp on the 9th February amongst others. Find info at www.youtube.com/user/weareuniform, http://weareuniform.tumblr.com, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Uniform/170510089671807?sk=wall or http://soundcloud.com/weareuniform NORTHERN LINES Local covers band Nothern Lines play their second gig as a group, providing superb covers of your favourite Indie tunes, as well as a few of their own - they've been working hard the last few months to perfect their sound and are really sounding good - Find info at www.northernlines.co.uk, or http://www.facebook.com/northernlines1?sk=wall&filter=2 THE HEXX Another local band, The Hexx, was formed when 2 of Aberdeen's rock bands dissolved and formed a new group - although only being together a few months, they are sounding great and really tight. Find more info at http://soundcloud.com/the-hexx or http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Hexx/180930457251 MICHAEL LOSZAK Former lead singer of Eskimo Blonde takes his show to Newmachar - this promises to be a great performance from one of Aberdeen's more established singers - more info at http://www.youtube.com/user/Neut01 The last Open Minded Music event sold out in a week so make sure you get your tickets early! Priced at £8, the night begins at 7.30pm and ends around midnight. Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Open-Minded-Music/142983282429509
  19. Guitarist and singer returned to Floortom Studios to finish our single and I have to say, it's sounding great! Steve Curtis, the Sound Engineer, is decent -check out their website as it's a great recording space. Think it's www.floortom.com
  20. We're playing there on the 26th January - from what I've heard, the guy who is promoting the events knows his stuff.
  21. We recorded at Floortom Studios a couple of weekends ago - nice studio, great equipment and the guy has clearly spent a bit on making sure it's acoustically sound. Track we did sounds great and the Sound Engineer knows his stuff. It's out in Clola, near Mintlaw.
  22. Nothing wrong with the Moorings for gigs - it's not my cup of tea, but each to their own. I just think it's quite limited with what the city offers - The Oxbow Lake Band for example, are a breath of fresh air as I've not heard anything like that before from Aberdeen. I mean, the main places to play are Drummonds, Tunnels and I guess, the Moorings - Drummonds is ancient and I suppose it serves it's purpose as a venue. I just don't think it's the same as say, 10 years ago when Lava was about - I just seemed to enjoy it more - perhaps that was more to do with the age I was then than anything.
  23. It just seems to have died a little and perhaps some bands have fallen into the trap of 'playing Drummonds/Tunnels every other week and as such, 'fans' or just interested folk aren't attending them as they're on so much - hence you get the dead gigs sometimes. The city as a whole is quite metal-focussed so I don't agree with the OP's post about 'indie music'. Obviously the bands that were around 5-10 years ago may not all still be around, but as previously mentioned by others, this is circumstantial. I know I'd like my band to play a mixture of Central Belt gigs and local gigs - just keeps it interesting and as someone said, people aren't going to necessarily come fm 'down South' to Aberdeen to see you play, you need to go to them.
