  1. hiya i have written a preview for this here: Hercules Moments: Gig Of The Month: Joan Of Arc at the Tunnels 27/06/2011 Gig of the month and all that. Check it out.
  2. Evening Express - Article - Aberdeen shop closes doors after 111 years Appears it is on the 30th. I would hope it is at night, wouldn't really make sense having it during the day when most folks are at work.
  3. Here: Evening Express - Article - Aberdeen music shop closes its doors Anyone heard any details on it? I'd imagine it would be the Saturday, yeh?
  4. I'm afraid i didn't really enjoy Tune-Yards at all. I just don't get it. Oh well. Thousands and Foxhunting were real real good though.
  5. Didn't expect it to be that quick. Sad to see it go. Apparently there will be an auction of remaining stock in two weeks.
  6. Awesome awesome awesome. Shame about Katerwaul's sound and having to dash for the last bus. Cheers for putting this on!
  7. I don't care what everyone says. Hurley was pretty awesome! Just for reference: Pinkerton > Blue > Maladroit = Hurley > Green > Red >>>> Dog Shit > Make Believe > Gaddafi > Radditude.
  8. Yeh, it is really good, i saw it in London a few years back. Really well put together. Some people will love it or hate it i guess, but then if they hate Queen they aren't really gonna give it a chance.
  9. More SY goodness, the guy with the flute :') YouTube - ‪Sonic Youth - I Wanna Be Your Dog‬‏ Pavement, ahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaah YouTube - ‪Pavement - Cut Your Hair on Tonight Show 1994‬‏ Arcade Fire, the mandolin smash.
  10. I'd be tempted to join a chalet if anyone is putting together one? I can bring to the party an Audi which could drive y'all from Aberdeen to Minehead and we can arrive blaring out Race:In /terrible joke. But seriously i could possibly drive down.
  11. Ah, ignore what i said. That explains why you are playing twice. Glad to hear it was a success!
  12. That can't be right? A few of those bands were in the STV video, which was from the 28th of last month i think. They must have changed the order. Ross or anyone else involved do you have the most recent line up?
  13. HAHA. Not sure, according to their blog something is in the works. Seems it will be a small informal takeaway/lunch place.
  14. You mean not boring right? Unless yr admitting they are boring?
  15. Ghurka Chef near the back of union square, Nepalese food, always pretty damn quite but so so good! Awesome takeaways too with a great meal deal that lasts couple of days. Y'all should try it! Good for vegetarian food if that is yr thing. Lahore Karahi on King Street. Awesome Pakistani food, pretty cheap. Again awesome for takeaway too. Think they recently done it up, but haven't been of recent. Again good for vegetarian. Bhan Thai, Rose Street, not much of a secret but seriously good Thai food. Great for takeaways too, always real quick. Frequented by Thai locals, says it all. Yorokobi By CJ, best Japanese food you'll get in Abdn. Service is ropey and not very good, but if you get past that, so many awesome things to have. Some Korean dishes too which are superb. Avoid Yo! Sushi at all costs and head here, the difference is remarkable. Especially since Yatai closed, however i think they are going to be opening up a smaller Yatai again of sorts. Moonfish Cafe, best bistro. I think they have the bistro formula much better figured out than the likes of La Stella. Nice informal service, great drinks selection, real relaxed. Bit on the pricey side for what yr getting, but if refined well presented food is yr thing then it is great. Don't expect to be filled up, expect to taste awesome expertly cooked food. Earl Of Sandwich, good reasonably priced sandwiches. Fine extensive selection. Y'all probably know it. Anyone know anywhere for really good Chinese? Yet to find somewhere that is above average, serving authentic Chinese. Ideally somewhere with loads of fish/seafood and Dim Sum.
  16. People are still buying instruments from there though? Every time i have been there they seem to be making quite a few sales. The link i posted earlier in the thread affirms this, that they are still making profits from instruments just not in other parts of the business. Kind of obvious that the CD section, AV section and cafe have all become unviable. That is why people don't want it to close, 'cause it is a service people still use for musical instruments. It is not a business that people don't use, it just lost touch a bit over time.
  17. Sad that union street is turning into a wasteland. Interestingly according to this link the musical instrument part is doing fine, just all the other parts aren't. Not surprising really, especially the A/V stuff. Have they thought of downsizing? And just specialising in musical instruments? 18. Check the Gigs And Events forum bit. You'll get an idea of what is going on from there. Have you just been turning up at random gigs and hoping for the best? Some of the midweek random local band stuff can be pretty gash, if you go to the gigs put on by the likes of AGP and IMP most of them are always awesome. There are some awesome local bands, and we get some great touring bands too. You just have to keep an eye out for it. Aberdeen is just as good as Glasgow in some respects, it just isn't as immediate or as noticeable at first.
  19. Really really good. I never really got that into the second album, but i'm back listening to it now and it is sounding great. Duke were pretty good too! I'm not really sure what the first band was all about... I mean fair enough every band has to start somewhere, but opening with a Fratellis cover? I don't really think that fitted in with the night's line up. I presume the rest of you missed them. It was nice to see younger people down and other than pancake-wanker i thought the others looked to be causing no trouble and having a good time.
  20. Just finished listening to the album, it is awesome! It is going back on repeat for sure. The new set up works fantastically well. Really cannot wait for June now.
  21. Agreed. Although i thought the first half was really really good. Just dragged on and Tim got too self-indulgent. Didn't Tim love the Aberdeen crowd and preferred it to Glasgow last time? Which is obviously good, in-case there is ever a certain reunion tour...
  22. Seems alright for 90, however from what i'd want to see it is not quite worth that yet. Have a local music tent (Indian Red Lopez, Min Diesel, Seas, Starry, Carson Wells.. et al) and an ale tent and i'm there. The whole thing about 'neds' i think is exaggerated. Just 'cause someone dresses in tracksuits and comes from a certain area doesn't mean they are out to cause trouble. Most of them are there to have a good time too and enjoy the music. In all the festivals i have been too i have never once had a problem with 'neds', this includes T in The Park which i think is vastly exaggerated on the problem. If you don't bother them, they won't bother you.
