  2. Burley looked like he was on the verge of bursting into tears for most of the match. Time to watch England take Brazil to school, yeah, that's how it's gonna go.
  3. Everything's going to be fine now - Kevin Kyle is on.
  4. Elisa Dushku might not have been up to much but the rest of the cast is/was pretty good, especially Sierra and Victor. I'll be sad to see it go but at least they are going to make the full series so there's a chance to give it a proper send off. There's always Fringe to fall back on for my mythology packed sci-fi fix until Lost returns in the new year. Other things from Americaville that I've been enjoying lately - How I Met Your Mother, The Office, Community and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. They're all on great form this year. I've also started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer - borrowed the massive 7 series box set from a friend. When it first came out I only caught odd episodes here and there and not necesarily in the correct order so it's been good to see the proper story unfolding. Nearly at the end of the second series so still a long way to go.
  5. He's been complaining that not enough of our players are married. I think he's focussing on the wrong issue there. Why would we want to try to hold on to Adam Johnson anyway? It's not like he's the only player to have shown any level of creativity or remote goalscoring threat this season.
  6. It's a big old advert for the artists who play on the show. They're the ones who stand to benefit from being on tv to hawk their new album/DVD/steaming pile of faeces so it stands to reason that they'd have to pay for the privilege. It's bound to be more effective than putting an ad in the commercial break and they'd have to pay for that too. The show itself could manage fine without any of these folks bring on - I doubt anyone tuned into the show purely based on the fact that Bon jovi were performing their new single.
  7. We lost again, we've been fucking terrible at football recently. At least we have Marcus Bent up front now, that'll sort us out. Right?
  8. My favourite leeds united chant is the one that goes "Leeds, Leeds, Leeds, Leeds, Leeds, Leeds" until they get bored. That's innovation right there.
  9. league of wales might take them, make it a celtic league like they have in egg chasing.
  10. It's not a FIFA decision to lift the transfer ban on Chelsea so I wouldn't moan too much about them yet (not about this one anyway). Chelsea put in an appeal on the verdict to the court of arbitration for sport and until there's been a decision one way or the other they're free to go about their business as usual. I'm not overly happy that it's turned out that way because it gives them a window in which to bolster their squad before the transfer ban might come back into effect and it would have been much more fun to see them with an aging set of players without a way of replacing them for 2 years. As long as the ban is upheld in the end I'll still be satisfied but if it does end up being completely overturned on appeal it sets an unpleasant precedence.
  11. Pretty sure Northern Rock don't have the cash to stump up for extra bonus sponsorship. I'd like it to be "Greggs - The Bakers - The Stadium".
  12. I really like the new Pelican album, the riffs have got more of an immediacy than those on City of Echoes. Reminds me more of Red Ran Amber and March to the Sea from The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw. Rifftastic Post Rock is ace.
  13. This is an interesting thing if, like me, you're into analysis of formations 'n' stuff The Question: Why are teams so tentative about false nines? | Jonathan Wilson | Sport | guardian.co.uk
  14. The ban will be for all domestic competitions so he'll be back for the rest of the league cup run. I didn't see it, in a surprising turn of events I wasn't watching football. I see St. James' Park is likely to be renamed for some extra corporate sponsorship money now that Mashley and Hughton are staying put. Can't wait to find out what the new name will be.
  15. I had a spectrum and nothing better for a lot longer than most people, the whole atari/amiga thing passed me by completely. I was ok with that though thanks to such fantastic games as Football Manager 2, World Soccer Manager, Euroboss. I liked football manager games when I was 10, that part of me will never die. I played Chequered Flag for many, many years too. Back in those days there were no saved games or high scores so I kept a log book of my best times for each track. I WAS THAT COOL. Moving onto the PC I will always love Settlers 2, probably my favourite game of all time. There was a version made for the DS not long ago but it's so riddled with bugs that it's completely unplayable. It is still a great game though, it had quite a simplistic model for your settlement's economy and all that but the execution of it kept me coming back time and time again. I wish I was playing it now. Right now.
  16. His second goal against Derby was fantastic, a mazy run followed by a smart finish from just inside the box. He is a boro fan, another product of the youth system so he's got a bit o' loyalty. It'll be tough to keep hold of him even if we get promoted, no wonder Real Madrid were scouting him last season...
  17. The logic that's been cited is that Gibson no longer trusts in Southgate to get the job done, probably due to the pitiful home performances so far this season. As for the timing it's better to bring a new manager in while things aren't in meltdown, the players aren't itching to leave the club and we're not out of the running for automatic promotion. I'd have been happy enough for him to stay but it's not up to me, and if we end up promoted with the new guy I'll be still be happy. It would be nice if someone other than Adam Johnson scored some goals from time to time.
  18. I've started a 'Lee Miller transfer fund' in preparation for JC getting the job. It currently sits at 0.53 in coppers and 0.90. That's almost enough to cover a weeks wages as well. Southgate did blame the players for being rubbish from time to time but it was more in an 'I'm not angry, I'm just very disappointed' style. He clearly likes prog rock too, look at his hair, that puts him firmly in my good books.
  19. Steve Gibson has seen that Liverpool are in trouble and are likely to get rid of Benitez soon and he's lining him up as Southgate's replacement. It's the only logical explanation.
  20. I'm confused. We won convincingly last night, we're only one point away from top of the Championship so we've sacked Southgate? Ok. I'm sad to see him go, thought he was a good guy, didn't shy away from the truth and as far as I knew he still had the players on his side. Who's next? Steve Bruce is probably ready for a change, he's been at Sunderland for aaaages. Maybe he'll bring Lee Cattermole back with him, I like Super Lee. It'll probably be end up being someone from the Curbishly/Pardew/Strachan/Coppell school of yo-yo club management. I don't know that that's better.

Another fun stat from that game - the Patriots defenders caught as many Titans passes as the Titans receivers did. 2 each. Oh yeah, to put it in perspective - the Patriots put up 426 yards of passing. In the snow.

It was a surprisingly tight 59-0 defeat to the patriots. Did you know that Tom Brady threw only 5 TD passes in the second quarter? Pathetic, he really needs to up his game next Sunday at wembley. We got -7 yards from our passing game. We're going to finish the season 10-6, we got a 10 game winning streak last year, we can do it again. Right? Oh wait. No. That's right. We're shite now.
  23. The Gary Neville chest/arm control is a thing of beauty. I don't think anyone can reasonably compare a big divot which is part of the pitch to a second ball that is not part of the pitch. Sadly, reason rarely comes into such things.
  24. I played my first 5 a side game in 3 months on Wednesday and my legs still feel like they've been trampled on by a hippo.
