I'm reading Berlin the downfall 1945, by Antony Beevor. A brutal and at time sympathetic account of the end of the Nazi regime. Its fascinating to get invidiual perspectives from the Red Army soldiers and the German soldiers as well as those higher up. I guess we all know a little bit about what went on, but this is a real eye opener... I will read his Stalingrad book next.

I can never remember the name of the band "Talking Heads" I had to look it up via circuitous route to even put that in here! I tried reading The Brothers Karamzov by Dostoyevsky and failed. I stole £5 from my mums purse when I was 8 and I still feel guilty about it. I cant stand Coldplay but I hate Radiohead even more ... I think the Red Hot Chill Peppers are the worst live pro band I've seen.

A martin ! yes ... you'd get your money back when you sell it later. I have a D35 and I have the Fishman pickup but I have the blend version which has a microphone as well as the piezo under the bridge. For future I'd just go with the piezo as the mic does improve the amplified sound, but it also has a negative effect on the un-plugged sound. The control panel sticks onto the soundboard and it dampens the acoustic soundscape! I have a Les Paul Classic, I have a Fender Tele Deluxe ... both of these guitars are superb examples but somehow I love the Martin most of all. Stuart

Our latest two Love Film DVD's didnt work... which is unusual. So I watched Inglorious Basterds again... SUPERB.... also have watched Taxi Driver which I missed out on first time around. you've probs all seen that ... so you know its genius. Life is Beautiful another one recently viewed... Genius film .. Italian 2nd World War story thats starts off as a slapstick comedy and quickly becomes a grim story about Nazi Death camps... well worth watching.

Rants Nothing like being a west coaster to give you a chip on both shoulders... Mind you I did have a similar experience in breakfast conservatory at Gleneagles earlier this year, An "Alisdair & Fiona" were having issues with there 3 badly behaved boys Findlay, Tarquin and Clive... the wee shits were winding each other up and all Mum would do was whine at her husband ... neither did anything to stop the behaviour of the kids!!! .... it nearly put me off my devilled kidneys and Stornoway Black Pudding.... and not a tattooed mink in sight !

I had a quick play of the Gibson J50, it had a nice straight neck etc... but didnt sound as nice as my Martin D35, I suspect a new set of strings would have helped. Auction was good fun, and I picked up some bargains, but you have be aware of the VAT & hammer charge of 15%... Some of the drum gear was good value ... but all in all it was a kind of sad day ...

Alternators is good ... but as this is Do-Wop and Rockabilly then Alternators are to up to date they replaced Dynamos which is much more of a 50/60s device and to me a much better name for your band. You can buy me a beer when you do your first gig, cos I like a bit of that ol Rock N Roll sound ...
