  1. Correction - it might have been Anthrax in "Calendar Girls". Remind me, is that who Scott Ian plays with?
  2. Just watched Back To The Future for the umpteenth time with my 7-year-old Metallica, Purple, Zep, Sabbath loving daughter and the scene where Marty plays "Johnny B Goode" and then starts shredding, to the utter bewilderment of the 50's audience, had us both in stitches (gets me every time!). Not to mention all the other rock/metal references. It got me thinking of other movies with a rock theme or good cameos. Do you guys have any faves, good examples (embarassingly bad examples)... Starter for 10... Back To The Future I & III Rock Star Wayne's World I & II School of Rock Calender Girls (Slayer Cameo - honest!) DZL
  3. Sensational Alex Harvey Band (SAHB) Just plain brilliant. Four gallus Glesca lads (Tear Gas) meet up with veteran never-quite-made-it rocker (also a Weedgie) and the unlikely alliance turned into the shit-hottest band on the planet for a couple of years - before it all imploded. Their live shows were second-to-none and they had (still have) one of the finest guitarists ever in Zal Cleminson - a musician who can say more in three notes than all the technically brilliant shredders can in hours of lightning-fast legato. He's the reason I started playing and the reason I upped my game and pratice time after he blew me and my tutor (a genius himself) right off our feet and through the wall at Moshulu last December. They were very much like Queen in that their music was extremely diverse, from straight blues-based boogie thru metal to prog-rock epics. Sadly, like Queen, a good deal of the album material was utter bollocks (Zal admits as much in the biography). But when SAHB were at the top of their game, they were astounding. Some recommended tracks... St Anthony, Hammer Song - Framed Faith Healer, Next, Vambo Marble Eye, Last of the Teenage Idols - Next Hot City Symphony, Anthem - Impossible Dream Give My Compliments to the Chef, Action Strasse, Stoneeater - Tomorrow Belongs to Me Live - The whole album. It's a blueprint for any aspiring band. Scirocco, Amos Moses, Dogs Of War - SAHB Stories Rock Drill, Dolphins - Rock Drill Faith Healer, Give My Compliments to the Chef & Dolphins are unmissable. Three of the finest songs ever commited to vinyl, please give them a listen, if only to say you've heard them and don't rate the band - but really LISTEN to the tracks. The band are still touring with Max Maxwell (ex Shamen) who tried hard, but was pretty gash first time out. On the last tour he was fantastic. The band have updated and modernised their repertoire with a harder. metal edge, but are still SAHB as we know an love them. Catch them later on this year in Aberdeen (tba). Thanks for reading. DZL
  4. Yes, he's an extremely underrated guitar player.
  5. Don't sell it! - It'll be worth a fortune in a few years time. I bought one of Tony Iommi's old 100w Laney Head units for 30 off a friend of a friend and sold it for a Klondike on eBay Don't want to say how much for, but my Les Paul Standard was NOT delivered by Santa!!!!!!!!! There was absolutely no proof whatsoever that it was indeed one of The Reffmeisters old kit, but the word "allegedly" was enough for the rabid eBayers - and it was a stonking, classic early '70's amp. Appreciate this isn't getting you any nearer to your Tele - but it's a good story DZL
  6. The Blues of Moodiness The Seventh Sojurn is pretty good too - great cover as well (in vinyl gatefold format). The Moodies have great harmony and the production is peerless, but it all sounds dated now (IMHO). Still, nowt wrong with that I suppose in the era of digital production-line noise.
  7. New CD's Hissing of Summer Lawns - Joni Mitchell Court & Spark - also Joni Fused - Iommi & Hughes Headhunters - Herbie Hancock Hope Your Wounds Heal - Tells
  8. The sales of Persil & Bold will drop dramatically as an effect, because we'll no longer have to put ALL the gear we've been wearing and the sheets (unless you shower at 2am) into the washer the next day to get rid of the disgusting bastards reek I'd advocate hanging for smoking in public places C**ts
  9. One Album Oasis only made 1 album...then released it in stages over several years
  10. Money No Object Good choice. I've got one of those (USA of course) and it's a luvverly instrument. Me ? 1960 Les Paul, Sunburst Mesa/Boogie Road King Head + 4/12 Recto Cab Sustain City DZL
  11. Prince A genius to be sure - pity he's such an egotistical nonce, with the WORST- bar none - outfits ever! Good guitrist tho' DZL
  12. Back Street Luv - Curved Air Next - Sensational Alex Harvey Band
  13. Worst Album "Young Gods" by Little Angels. Utter bobbins. A lead singer with baws-in-a-vice vocals, curly hair, a cloth hat, a totally kick-able face called Toby?...what was I thinking about. ?( Sh1te. DZL
  14. A genius - and hilariously funny. FOPP have a few of his albums on offer at 5.00 a pop. Not too shabby, eh? DZL
