ahh...thats what screwed it then. well at least you now know to never sing with a sore throat. the rest of the band know that if i have a sore throat i wont sing. to cancel a show is one thing but to screw your voice up for a long time/indefinitely is quite another.

I'm afraid to say this dude BUT: Those accelerated bonus policies are rarely recognised by other insurers...It's more a ploy by your existing insurer.

Thought I'd throw my bit in here Hog. Ive spent alot of time and money on my voice, trying to make it better and how to look after it. These are some of the things I do. Take em or leave them BUT bear in mind ive done two weeks of shows on the trot before and had very little problems. Do you like tea? If so...drink it and put a couple of spoons of honey in it as opposed to sugar or sweetners. If you dont like sweet tea, learn to like it. Nothing is as good for keeping your throat well as honey. I swear by it. It has natural healing properties. I drink it most of the time. Sleep...Sleep is so essential for your voice. It cant be stressed enough. Warm up. I warm up before sound check and before the show. I will not do anything vocally without warming up. I go from humming really low to really high note wise then I tend to go through my range from the lowest note to the highest going AYYYYY EEEEE AHHHHH OOOOOOOHHHHH OOOOOOOOO. Get a few lessons to at least teach you how to breathe properly. Too many people sing and scream from the throat. Your throat is just the where the noise comes from...the power comes from the diaphragm. The breathing exercises I learnt have made all the difference. Thats how i went over a short space of time from a horrible weak scream to the bark I have now. If you actually learn how to sing and scream from the diaphragm you end up really enjoying it. Learning how to regulate the amount of air you let out is brilliant fun and you can hold notes and scream for quite a while. Also doing it right means I NEVER EVER come offstage or ourt of practice feeling sore. My stomach feels like ive done 200 sit ups but that means youre doing it right. Too many vocalists dont want to go to a singing teacher but youre really cheating yourself if you dont. Sure you feel stupid for a while but you soon dont care. the guys in the band dont give a toss now when they hear my silly noises when warming up. Dan even joins in to help him sing. Suck lozenges etc but have your last one quite a few hours before using your voice. They numb your throat and this isnt good as you can not feel what youre doing to it when singinging/screaming. You need to feel every little vibration. DO NOT drink water with Ice...drink as much as you like but try and have it quite warm. Never have ice in it...BAAADDDD!!! And finally...try not to talk too much over other bands at gigs...this will strain your voice and your performance will suck. Sorry for the essay...but you really got to look after your voice.

Thanks. It might be Maxi bashing but he hands out enough of his thoughts on here about both people and bands. Its just as relevant/irrelevant as what he posts.

I'm sorry but it comes down to this in my opinion. Mr Maxwell gets a hair up his ass about something and has to basically pull other people down because of it. I bet if most of you had a listen to the bands he thinks are any good you wouldnt even say they sound good at what they do. What we have to realise is most people here come on for half an hour or something. Some to promote a show, some to promote their band, some to see if there is any discussion they are interested in and some to waste some time before getting on with life. There is also a category of jokers that look see what ructions they can cause now and again (albeit light heartedly) . What our boy Stuart does, is use it as a way to make himself feel better. For this we should feel sorry for him. Now and again I see glimpses of a good guy like when we played this years Fudge Awards and he was telling me that certain levels need to go up etc. That made me think "that was good of him." Remember this though...and alot of people know this. Maxi generally likes shit music...didnt we all already know that? I think that everyone in Aberdeen should be proud of our music scene. I know that Jamesy thinks it's the best fucking place in the world and that's pretty cool. I dont agree fully but I think we are pretty lucky you know. I've seen enough of other scenes to get a snapshot of what they're about and we should be pretty chuffed but hey...the grass is always greener. Good on Edgar Prais going out and doing what they are doing thats wicked. Good on Karloff who have a fanbase it seems worldwide that we all forget about. Everywhere you go there is someone who has heard of them or been to a show or owns a tee shirt. Remember Genevieve went and played some shows on the continent and thats pretty cool. It doesnt matter what ambitions a band has. Just let them get on with it. Maxwell is just annoyed that no one pays him any attention. Who is he anyway? He played in Orwell. I never saw them. Heard from trusted sources they were quite bad but you know like i said...let them get on with it. Who talks about them now though? Oh and didnt he fill in on bass for genevieve and looked the most awkward musician i've ever seen on stage? Yeah thats him. Who cares. Who do you see on these boards slagging off local bands the most? Thats right? Maxi. Maybe if he left the keyboard alone for a short while or at least put it to any good use rather than putting down others he could concentrate on making himself happy. Putting down others the way he always does is a sure sign that he isnt happy with himself. I hope this doesnt get deleted because its just calling out some truths and adding to the discussion.

Err, no, it's my opinion. It's not badly informed whatsoever. I own loveless on CD and tried several times in the ten years I have owned it to "get it." Dont give me that crap about me taking the old person stance of "it's just noise." I listen to pretty extreme music. I also Love Ride whose early, effects laden material would be seen as unintelligible noise to the untrained ear. I wouldnt ever attack someones opinion on it. I may disagree and state why I do but not TELL them they are being narrow minded without knowing if they had given it attention enough to form a valid opinion. So, my opinion. It's pretentious crap.

Thing is, I personally dislike when you hear people say "I hate students!" This statement is very silly. However, you do get the stereotypical students that you can see that lot being on some mix cd they have made. Those kind of students I DO hate. It's just a pet hate but It's still there nonetheless. I dont think the stone roses deserve to be in there, I think your stereotypical student now is perhaps not really up on who they are so much as most of the other tracks there. You know what, in fact, fuck it! I've changed my mind...they probably do dance to those songs not knowing who the fuck they are. So while we are at it, you could probably throw in "the only one i know" by the charlatans as well. A GREAT track (that annoying students who own "Loveless"* by My Bloody Valentine because NME told them they should own it to be a proper student) will all whoop when it comes on, desperate to let everyone else know that they like it and know who it is! *Loveless - Fuck Off. It's PISH!!!! Dont pretend that you like it and see any substance in it whatsoever...its complete crap! Its just stupid, incomprehensible white noise that doesnt ever go anywhere or ever actually go close to having any songs on it. I dont belive they deserve to be in the Shoegazer genre with all the quality bands that movement gave us.
