  1. I'd bloody love it to have Stripey back. He was pretty argumentative, but at least he wasn't a fucking moron who posted in EVERY SINGLE THREAD.

Nostalgia can do funny things to you: he was the most mentally deluded poster this board has ever seen, and I include Rune and Ben Weapon in that! JakeBassist is the worst poster we've had in a good while, not since the ones who posted 12 threads per hour in the Wasteland because they had bugger all to do in the Aberdeen College IT room can I think of any more annoying....

  2. My text summary of the games went 'sex pest won again, ando bottled again, wade and barney the other two'. Short, sweet and to the point (nae pun intended).

Final night 6-3 win over the Redhall last night means we finish above the Western, even though they tanked us 8-1 last week! Pleasing. Consolation cup still to play for too....

  3. The crux of the problem was certainly created pre-Whyte, I don't think that's in dispute. What I think is debatable is which of the following happened:

    1. He took the club over, not knowing how bad the mess was and genuinely hoping to rescue them

    2. He took the club over, knowing how bad the mess was but genuinely believing he could rescue them (perhaps by calling in the administrators, creating a phoenix club and avoiding the HMRC and other liabilities)

    3. He took the club over, knowing how bad the mess was and intending to strip the club down for assets, knowing that he'd more than return the £16m of debt he took on

Despite what I'm seeing, option 3 seems very unlikely because an organisation like Rangers comes with a lot of emotions and there are a lot of nasty people out there who have an interest in their success. I can't help but feel that if he did that, he might perish in a boating accident under unusual circumstances.

Option 3 all the way Spoons: Craig Whyte is a professional asset stripper, and I reckon he will be in profit by the time this whole thing reaches endgame (even if he isn't, he's only worse off to the tune of his £1 stake). And HMRC couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery: look how badly they handled the Vodafone fiasco, and then got baw-shafted in the Redknapp trial!

Sad to say, but the dirty tinks will get out of this relatively unscathed. Still funny watching 'tha peeple' sweat over it though!

  4. Was playing last night (our first ever whitewash, 9-0 over the Lassies!) but was kept updated by text, looking for highlights of said games online.

    Anderson was honking apparently?

  5. Do you take a break inbetween throws to mimic the time taken for an opponent to throw in a match?

Yeah. Although I always assume that my opponent is a relatively quick player, I'd spar against slower throwers if I knew any!

Spoons - Redhall papped us 6-3 last night. I just played in the pairs, and buggered up on the finishing again. D'oh!

  6. Just hit a 15-darter whilst preparing for tonight (ton, ton-40, ton, 97, 16, 8, D20). This may not be a good thing, because a good practise session is normally followed by a stinker in the real game!

    *crosses fingers*

  7. We managed to nick it tonight, 5-4. Won my singles game despite missing quite a few darts at D9 (won't be intentionally leaving 36 again, no no no...). With the Croon Lassies in our league there's not usually any danger of finishing bottom, they haven't won a game for about 2 years! There's a decent scrap brewing between us, the Western, Croon men and the Redhall to avoid second bottom, and we visit Pete's palace next Thursday.

    Good luck on Saturday!

  8. I'd be surprised if LW made it, though I guess if Richie Burnett can come back from mid 90's obscurity there's no reason why he couldn't. I reckon Winstanley will have no problem getting through that lot.

We're at the Croon men - papped them out of the knockout cup 6-3 going on 8-1 last month, but I can't see them playing as badly as that again, and we'll probably be without out best player the morn! It's tough at the bottom....

  9. The Count does love a good rant at everything, bar himself!

Plenty of names on that Q-School list jumping out: Les 'McDanger' Wallace, no less! Horrible nickname, cracking player in his day.

Massive bottom-end of the table 4 pointer for our lot tomorrow night, confidently predicting we will baws it up somehow!

  10. Bumping this up - last night I enjoyed my first 'variant' game of the charmingly titled Cunt Limit Hold Em. Play is exactly the same as standard Texas NLH, except holding the queen of spades automatically gives you the best hand over everything. If it comes out on the community cards, the hand is dead and chopped up between everyone still in at that point. After a couple of goes, I reckon there's a couple of good things to it - 1) in the early stages of 8/9 handed play when things tend to be more conservative and restrained, there's a better chance of it being dealt, hence it encourages more open play/bluffing/etc, and 2) in the later stages of play when it becomes less about cards and more about your stack, it is much less likely to come up and makes shoveplay much more scary.

I'm sure Christy and the like will pick holes in the format, but I quite enjoyed it....

  11. That's good money to make. Was disappointed that the Silverback didn't win, but hey ho

Never been a fan of O'Shea, it's the walk on music that does it for me!

Looks like quite a large stampede going to the PDC this time round with over 200 down for Q-school. Ouch!

  12. The Darlington saga is the perfect example of an 'if you build it, they will come' story gone badly wrong: relocating your club to an out of town Maracana is no use if you haven't got a fanbase! St Johnstone struggle to fil McD more than a third, and on a smaller scale, Stirling Albion struggle badly for crowds since they upped sticks for a shiny new stadium two miles out of town.

Can't see Aibrrdeen's new stadium faring too well either tbh...

  13. - Christian Kist is worth a tenner each way (except he isn't, now that I've tipped him and hence put the curse on him)

    +£100. Boom! Hankey's self-destruction was a good laugh too.

Practise room is out of bounds this week for me. :(

  14. Last night was a familiar story in the league: 1-0 up in the singles match, cruising the second leg and wasted a pile of match darts on double 2. Threw another 6 away in the decider to boot. My doubles under pressure have been shite all season, and I've thrown away at least 6/7 matches I should have cakewalked. FML.:(

  15. Yeah, as long as Anastasia Dobromyslova doesn't take out an injunction I'll be doing a fair few tourneys! Scottish Open is the end of next month IIRC, and there's the Granite City Open at the start of July, my only previous attempt at it ended with a 3-1 skelping in round two.

There is a strange element to doing the comps, part of you wants an easier draw with a half decent chance of going a few rounds, and another part that wants to draw a big gun like Wolfie or the Count so you have a half decent story to go round the pub with! (The latter option backfired on an ex-teammate of mine a few years ago: he got Gary Anderson pre-PDC in the first round of the GCO, but somehow didn't know who he was! He asked the Skite men if they knew, and one of the cruel buggers replied with an 'oh aye, he's total shite'. Ho ho! As you probably guessed, GA utterly mullered him 3-0 in less than ten minutes......)
