Try Cafe Boheme cafe bohme - the seafood specials on the evening menu are great. For a lower budget option they have a lunch / early evening menu - 14.95 for three courses. I'd also second Yatai, but think you need to book well in advance as it's not very big.

Mr & Mrs Balvack are really looking forward to this The gig last Saturday at the Music Hall was wonderful, even though Dame Evelyn had to do a wee speech at the start to warn the more mature, classical listener that they were about to get a totally improvised concert. o_O

Definitely. The menu's full of lots of of little dishes. If you find it hard to make up your mind - like we did - then go for one of the tasting menus. They don't look cheap, but one between 2 of us and a couple of extra skewer dishes we fancied was plenty. The menus are here It's not really like Chinese or Thai, but is really tasty and you don't need to have raw fish. And plastic sushi from the supermarkets? there's no comparison between that and the stuff from Chef Jang or Yatai

I got mine a little cheaper (21 + 1.50 booking fee) from 1-UP. I'm just amazed at getting the chance to see Terry Riley play Aberdeen.

Has anyone else been to see "Inland Empire" yet? Mr & Mrs Balvack were both amazed by it. We found the trick was to just let it wash over you and seep in rather than trying to figure out what was really going on. A beautifully complex progression from Mulholland Drive, with a hint of Twin Peaks, and a totally stunning movie - a classic Lynch work. Only about 10 people in Belmont Screen 1 when we went though ?(

Stewart Lee ? Ok I know this is off-topic as the thread's about non-funny comedians but I'm surprised there's been no mention of Stewart Lee so far. His show at the Lemon Tree a year or so back was fantastic, though the audience was literally divided by him. "Gaping anus of Jesus !" There's probably been enough said on Bill Hicks (I'm pretty much with Chris on that one) what the hell I may as well wade in too as I'm an oldie who saw him live in Edinburgh in the early nineties. Of course it may seem dated if you watch it now - it was more than 15 years ago ! In my opinion the best stand-ups are like a good gig: nothing really beats being there for a one-off experience that connects with what's going on here and now (or there and then, as it were) . My take on BH (and Stewart Lee for what it's worth) was that he was trying to get folks to think for themselves, not just blindly accept what authority, TV, or even he, said. Viz Stewart Lee getting a rise out of the Lemon Tree audience with his "scottish heros were guy" bit. Yes Bill Hicks would take the piss out of "his audience" but mainly if they weren't willing to even contemplate any opinion other than their own, or rather, one they'd blindly accepted from the powers that be. He maybe wouldn't give a damn if you didn't like him, but at least give free speech a go eh ?

If the LT still sent out the programmes for free I wouldn't mind so much, but it certainly doesn't encourage you to find out what's on. I'll stick to the ab-music "gigs and events" thank you very much. And while I'm in a ranting mood, being a true Aberdonian I'll be darned if I'm going to pay a 1.50 booking fee per ticket to buy online when I can phone the box office and pick up tickets on the night.
