  1. Is it that dodge? I was told once simply to "promise me you'll never go in there" when I was a teen and thus still haven't. I walked past it recently at ten in the morning and thought it must have closed down it looked like it, then peeped in and saw people drinking in there.
  2. The Hen Hoose...wonderful place! Anyone ever dared to go in Bar 524 on George Street?
  3. I love the harbour pubs, for dabbling with danger. To be honest I don't think anny of them are anything like as dodgy as a tiny bar in Northfield, Woodside or Torry. Ok, the Moorings is in a diferent league altogether, that's a given, it's quite simply the finest drinking establishment in Britain. If there's a better one keep it quiet. But for the others...Peep Peeps is actually very hard to be unnoticed in. There is actually a great short storey called Blow The Mannie Down set in there and it would make you never venture anywhere near the docks again. The Glentanner back in the day wasa goldmine but now is a bit gloomier. Beyond that...The Neptune years ago was a good gig joint but now I wouldn't fancy it, considering that if you run into trouble there isn't much of an escaper route, its in a wilderness of deserted streets. Let me know how you get on if you come back safely. or, seriously, try them in the daytime to start with if you want to live not too dangerously. The Broadsword, and any in Woodside Torry and Northfield are your real russian rouletters though.
  4. Adidas Magikos...has always stuck in mind since I met him once years back. When I worked in a call centre once I remember a Mr Death and a Mr Fuks. You would change your name wouldn't you?
  5. Blimey what an image! I have to say seeing Asia live is like nothing I've ever known. I cannot best describe this on a PC, but if anyone interested is ever in the Moorings or is at Keith Chaos on Saturday remind me and I'll explain.
  6. Soph strikes me as someone who can certainly fight her own battles, but all the same, behave! She's cooler than A.H. hence she likes Crimson. Asia: hmmm. Actually they're a guilty pleasure. Am I In Love, Heat of The Moment, Voice of America. They did however mark the beginning of Greg Lake's iffy vocals in their second incarnation.
  7. He's absolutely dreadful, stupid camp meeja irony merchant. He was, unbelieveably, on a "comedy" bill in a pub I was in a while back. But a certain member of this community has him as her avatar and loves him so we'll be lynched for this.
  8. Field of Crows is very surprisingly good, especially Exit Wound! We even had Cloud liking that when we played it in the Moorings! Mark Kelly ain't bad but he's jot exactly the best keyboard player ever. his solos are piss-easy but he has a way of making them sound tough, especially on Script and Fugazi, after that his keyboard playing lost any virtusoity until Brave appeared, which I think is the record he plays best on, with some gorgeous piano sounds especially. (Qualities like that are as telling of talent as speed of your playing.) If its a discussion of best keyboard players, its Tony Banks, end of story. No-one plays with such expression.
  9. Just as a good writer. That'll do fine. I always think though, it's strange how on your tombstone all it usually has are you date of birth and death, surely the two least interesting and revealing facts about you. That and a greetings card quote of condolence. I wouldn't mind gravestones starting to have mini-biographies on them...a company out there should market that.
  10. You mean where the Balaclava Bar is? Loch Street? BTW re cash converters...did that mean you traced the people that nicked it? They keep a record of who brings stuff in don't they?
  11. Yeah yeah, actually it isn't. Usually people tend to yell something first or whatever or creep up behind you, these two guys were just walking past me on a not thatg quiet street with everyone else, just like walking down union street on a saturday afternoon.
  12. gutted i missed it but not heard the last album yet...still nothing has topped little earthquakes for me
  13. I got mugged about a year ago in London, two guys walking past me about 9 on a summer evening, as they got level one just punched me in the face with no warning, then as i hit the deck said "don't worry mate, it's okay" and then booted me a bit and legged it taking the bag i was carrying, which had my housemates overnight stuff in he's asked me to drop back at the house...my phone was left behind and someone found it and handed it in. the police were atrocious, made me feel like crap and then made me walk back home at 2am after giving me not even a cup of tea at the station. A mate of mine was once mugged in Seaton Park and broke both the guys arms, whcih really made me laugh. The thing was he warned the guy as well that he would fight back and damage him and he still kept jabbing a knife at him thinking he was bluffing! I also got burgled last year and lost two grand of dvds, wasn't insured as i was only at the address short term, that really upset me more. As a mugging victim i got away fairly lightly but I get a lot more cabs as a result.
  14. Rubbish, Hog is a man's man. Interpret that as you may.
  15. I'll miss it sadly, I arrive up on Friday morning!
  16. I'm a bit against it simply because its Aberdeen trying to become like every other city. Its just about the only place left without a pedestrianised highstreet at the moment, and if it undergoes a gradual yuppification of the harbour it will just become what it always strives to be, a poor man's Glasgow, rather than a great place in its own right. I'm not resisitant to change but this isn't so much progress for Aberdeen as it plonking something out of place next to Fittie just to feel like its in the 21st Century.
  17. Actually Princess, I wouldn't scared about movng to London, people in Scotland are always talking bollocks about how its unfriendly or dangerous and its without a doubt the friendliest and safest city i've ever lived in, largely because most of it is nowadays populated by young people who are not from London and are just there to enjoy life for a few years before returning to Australia, Aberdeen or wherever. Just avoid Brixton and harlesden and any kids in hoodies, which applies to most cities these days!
  18. Just bought this album and I have to say I'm impressed, especially by ID. What's the consensus?
  19. Yes I nearly put this down, I think on reflection that wins out for me too. It was a terrific gig and a good set. Crowd were lively and the banter was good!
  20. I think The Rolling Stones would have been terrific fun to have been in. Or Zeppelin. Neither of them seem to have had quite the tensions of so many other bands.
  21. I think for old times sake it was probably The Australian Pink Floyd Show the first time, when tribute bands were a new thing and they really blew me away.
  22. Wish I could have made it! Did he play any oldies?
  23. I can't for the life of me see how someone's age has anything to do with their skills as a musician. It has bugger all to do with someone's acting ability, painting skills or writing novels so why should it matter music wise?
