1. Ooh! I'd say Meow Meow Woof, but they just don't seem to want to do a live thing. In fact, I don't think they even exist officially yet... but they should! Ya hear that, Buckley? Post one of your tracks or something and get some feedback, then get of yer arse and do it live. [edit] Yay, I got the hang of the HTML
2. ^ ^Also think that is a fantastically true observation... and slightly depressing.
3. Thank you Daveofficer and Scott! I'm glad there are some of us...
4. I saw Death By Dave recently, really enjoyed them. They're a duo who use a sampler to make beats and tones, etc, then acoustic guitar as well. To be honest, they're probably more of an emo-ish band (and I mean that in a good way ), but there are heavy elements of electronica in there... and they're really cool.
5. The Books - Thought For Food and The Books - The Lemon Of Pink ...had to order them from America, but damn it's gonna be worth it (haven't arrived yet). Anyone else like the Books? Anyone else heard of them?
6. Jesus christ... Doesn't anyone like both of them? Apart from historicrocker, (well done sir/ma'am) not one person seems to have an appreciation for both bands. I'll admit, I love Mogwai, and have far more time for them than Coldplay, but most of the posters in this thread seem to have nothing but vile hatrid for one of said bands... ....shame really.
7. Hear hear! ...that is all.
8. ....Wow! The fact that that is a naturally-occuring sound (or at least, a 'chance' sound), just makes it seem all the more amazing. I really want to go and experience this for myself now, it sounds totally cativating.
9. Ach! I'm sorry it's not constructive or relevant, but I was in the Void, and we were in Aberdeen, but it's ok. We don't exist now. Not at the moment anyway Interestingly, I now live in Edinburgh... ...ok, maybe not that interesting.
10. Argh!!! I'm living in Edinburgh now (@ Uni) and, as a result, I missed this. Which sucks. Before this gig, I had been to the last 5 Aberdeen Capdown gigs in a row, including both nights of the legendary 2-nighter. And now this... I would have gone to the Edinburgh one, but I had exams on etc. Fudge!
11. w00t! I'm excited, 'cause I've not been on this site in rather a longish time. Looking forward to this gig. It'll be the first Aberdeen gig I've been to in ages. In fact, the last one I went to was probably, as in this case, because I had to play... Anyway, if I may recapitulate, 'w00t!'
12. This makes my stomach feel all weird. I gotta go make me own band now
13. Kill the fuckers! Or change our name to Void a) and they can be called Void b) ...I dunno. Thanks, btw
14. Wow. I've been in Edinburgh for almost 2 weeks now, but have been without a PC for a long time, so this is the first I've seen of this thread. Thanks very much for all the compliments there We are going to try and get maybe a couple of 'reunion' gigs, but the future for the Void is pretty uncertain. It appears that we may be allergic to Edinburgh. Thanks again Struan.
15. *Some other freak-inducing comment* w00t! Just to plug my own band for a min: The Void's standard drumming unit, the 'Bonham MkII' will not be functioning @ this gig, and in it's place, we have summoned the Grand Witch-doctor of Bruge, El Patricio. We were practicing last night and jamming grooves in a hectic 7/8 breakbeat. t'was actually cooler and more impressive to behold than it sounds, so watch out! We're gonna try and rival all the other bands for FREAKOUTy-ness, and then we can all feed off each others vibes, and then we'll all play really well, and then everyone'll get up and start dancing/freaking, and then it'l just get into a spiral of getting freakier, and freakier, and freakier, until it all turns into a big orgy of ecstatic (and alcohol-induced) freakin-out... ...or am I hyping this up too much? Nah!
16. Yeah, it was a fantastic, eclectic night. I was particularly impressed by Fiona, Pete and Anders, who were all amazing in different ways. I can only emphasise my agreement that there were nowhere near enough people present. What is it about 'intimate' performances being so good?
17. Wow! I was just on Ebay last night, surfing (does anyone else find themselves sitting up til 4am a couple of nights a month/week surfing ebay for silly musical instruments?) and I happened upon some of these stylophones. I became very interested, and it brought back my lust for things like the V|-tone. So imagine my surprise when I come on aberdeen-music this morning, and find this thread resurrected. Unfortunately, I still don't have a V|-tone or anyhting, but I do have an Early Learning Centre, Sing and Play Keyboard, in a neon orange, neon green and purple colour scheme. It has no output jack so the only sound is from the little speaker, and it only has two-key polyphony, so no huge chords, jsut 2-part harmony, but the mandolin setting is amazing, and if I can find out how good it would sound miked up, I would love to use it in public. Still looking for a V|-tone and a stylophone, and now I'm interested in them-thar theramins. Can they actually play a tune or is it jsut a sound effect? Cos I've seen Bill Bailley using one, and it kinda seemed to be a bit a-tonal. Now I jsut have to wait for my sitar to be delivered (the first one was broken ) and find a musical saw. They look nice and challenging.
18. Ah but you see. Anyone who's anyone (and anyone who isn't) will be heading down to Drummonds for the BOTB semi-final to see Mind Gone Blind, Echomind and The Void. If I could only find it in hte gig and event announcements, I could prove it to you.
19. I agree with you Mr Maxwell. I have gotten very bored of seeing Turning 13 recently, even though I really love their music. I fear that I will also go the same way with Eric Euan if I keep seeing them all the time, but fortunately, this hasn't happened yet. I would like to apologise on behalf of The Void for gigging far too much and for keeping the same set for far too long. If I may give reasons for this atrocity, we are going to Edinburgh soon, and simply want to play to Aberdeen as much as possible before we leave. As for the song-writing, we have been without one of our number for 2 months, which has made it harder to write new material. I don't know why I'm trying to explain myself here, but I kind of agree with this theory on over-gigging anyway.
20. hmmm. I used to be into my punk and Metal. Bands like Korn, Blink 182, Greenday, Slipknot, Offspring, etc. Quite mainstream rock. I don't really listen to any of that very often these days, although I still appreciate it. The only bands I still listen to frequently from my early music collection is Less Than Jake. Now, I've broadened my tastes to incorporate a little from just about every genre. ie: jazz, alt/post-rock, prog, ska/reggae/dub, hip-hop, Indian raga, black metal, Hawaiian, delta blues, emo, indie and pretty much any easy-listening. A lot of stuff, although I can still be picky when it comes to actualy bands within htose genres.
21. Turning 13 are great. Really enjoyed them @ the Lemon Tree on Sunday.
