  1. I HATE iPODS! I'd def go with Sony, only thing is although they're great otherwise, Sony stuff seems to have a habit of conking out just after the warranty goes. I'll have to agree on the creative zen idea, they're cool... Although personally, I want an Archos MP4 player. The new one has a 7-inch screen don't you know!
  2. Haha. I'm definitely up for some Babykarma... although it just won't be the same without the old Malt Mill line-up *sniff*
  3. Thanks very much for the suggestion, Dusty Rory phoned me yesterday and told me about it, and I'd love to do it. My creative juices have been congealing in Edinburgh. Progress is slow with band-forming, etc, and my performances thus far have been limited to playing bass in my Gospel Choir's winter concert... not quite what I'm aiming for. Just need to find out if DeBoth will drum for us now... oh, and of course if anyone will come and see us :S Struan
  4. HATE... THEM! (but not as much as The Killers) -you can't say I'm not constructive
  5. "hypocrate" -[there's always a good excuse for an Enlish Lit degree ] Oh no! Not this fighting again.... This is why we can't have nice things!
  6. RBF were awesome! Really wish they'd played 'Sellout' earlier though, as I would have liked to finish on 'Drunk Again' or 'New York, New York' (although I realise chances of that happening were slim). Still their set was ace. A lot of really good reggae numbers like 'Boss DJ', and a lot of quality skanking to be had. Was also very impressed with Skindred. Never seen them before, but they had the dub thing going on. VERY groovy, and pretty heavy in the right way. Also some nice use of sampler/drum machine to spice things up. Didn't really concentrate on the first band much, as their first few songs weren't that good in my opinion. But I'll admit they definitely got better as their set went on, and the audience must have dug them, other wise the singer wouldn't have been able to sing a verse while being held right up to the roof by the audience. Overall, ace gig and definitely worth the headache.
  7. Digital Dreams: Piano's a bit reminiscent of "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone, but then you can't escape that if you have a descending bass-line. Very atmospheric nonetheless. I like the Floyd-esque vocals, although they're slightly better when you get a bit of power behind your voice there. I'm a bit of a fan of distorted bass, especially since I have a nice ol' overdrive pedal, and yet usually have to play bass instead of guitar. One criticism would be that this riff has been looping under the vocals for a wee while now. My ears want it to be slowly building into a climax. You know, heavier drums, heavier piano, heavier bass, voice getting more powerful. Then again, that's just what my third ear hears. Overall, the song's a little limited by only really having the one section over and over again, but it was a good section nonetheless, and I did like it. Another Average Weirdo: Worried by the synth-strings... First thing I'm thinking is that I prefer the Radiohead side of the band to the 80's side of the band. Of course that's just my taste. The vocals definitely suited the more atmospheric and serious setting of the first piece though. One thing I'll say for this track is that I like the acoustic guitar being strummed from the right-speaker. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, I was just more impressed by the first piece. Keep it up though... I'd be interested to see what else you guys are creating.
  8. Roxx0rz! First Edinburgh Uni student in the his-ouse! Yeah, I'm about to go into second year English Literature / Philosophy joint-honour @ Edinburgh, but I'm planning on dropping philosophy come third year, and concentrating on English Lit... because I'm soooo career-orientated.
  9. I have to kind of agree with that, but I don't mind the track. As an interlude it's cool. Pretty chilled, nice solid beat (although very simple and nothing new). Reminds me a bit of DJ Shadow, which is no bad thing.
  10. Cataleptic: oh man. I generally don't expect much from local music simply labeled as "rock", but that first riff makes me thinkg of AtD-I. Not a bad start and a nice time-signature. Kinda crazy vocals. No singing, as such, but sounds quite cool. Recording is very nice. I'd be interested to know where it was done, how much it cost, etc. Overall, pretty impressed, sounds very energetic.
  11. What exactly did he say to earn this pumping he's getting? [to his advantage, all ths slagging is keeping his thread at the top of the feedback forum... not that there's much activity on here to force him down the ladder, as it were]
  12. Some interesting sounds in there. Although it goes on a bit long, I do definitely like the first drumloop. The piece sounds a wee bit synthetic (I mean as far as sounds go, it seems pretty electronically created), and yet, if you listen, there do seem to be a fair emount of 'actual' sound samples. It's not quite conducive to my tastes; I'm more of a Postal Service or Lamb fan; but it's not bad, if you're more into the dark, spacey side of electronica. My only real criticism would be the lack of any sort of melody/harmony/pitching, but I guess that's maybe an ambience thing... Still, doesn't deserve the slating those first few gave it.
  13. "Sigh....." If we're going to nit-pick (well, I am), then it's not a song title, since it's not the title of a song, due to there being no singing. The piece, then, cannot centre on vocals in any way, and the focus is instead on the riff, which is maintained over the top of a constantly changing time-signature in the drums. So I think the title is pretty accurate and appropriate. Yes, I know it sounds like I'm being pedantic and picking fights, but I'm just really bored, so fighting with Calum and Neil is the closest I can get to entertainment (or indeed, a social life) *....Jerry! Jerry!...*
  14. w00+ for RBF Need to look out a nice shirt and tie combo, to go with my tweed shorts... hmmm. Thinking the classic white shirt - black tie thing might suit. I know RBF aren't a British 2nd-wave ska band, but they still deserve it.
  15. Moby and Lemon Jelly? Nice one. Obviously we don't want to sound too much like any existing artists, but we thought we were in danger of ripping off very different bands, so as long as everybody doesn't see the same influences, I'm happy. It's funny, this is the second time I've been told my music sounds like Lemon Jelly, and I've only heard two of their songs... although having said that, you can tell just from that that they have a very distinctive sound.
  16. Oi! Break it up. we'll have none of that here. this is a local forum for local people. etc.
  17. Tsk tsk, Larsen. Live and let live I hear you man. We love that Om riff. Wonderful wonderful time changes.
  18. Thank 'ee, guvnors. We've been thinking of trying to do the pieces live with one of the two identical samplers we've got to recreate the wonderful electronic sounds, etc. But we ain't got round to it yet.
