  1. It is a charity do, all venue costs and prize money being handled by a sponsor for the event.
  2. the prize money and venue is being paid for by a sponsor
  3. 13th June, charity battle of the bands. Be there, its a totally awesome lineup. Something there for everybody i think. TURNING 13 AKA THE FOX DEDALUS THE VOID
  4. I'll check about the running order (not that you'd like to miss ANY of the bands ) But im pretty sure doors are at 8pm. I THINK the running order will be The Void Dedalus AKA the Fox Turning 13 Methinks. That sounds about right but im no way certain...
  5. im taking the bus from Aberdeen. 4am i believe. Eugh
  6. and ofcourse Leornard Cohen must get some credit for writing that Hallelujah. Although the version from Mystery White Boy Tour must go down as ultimately one of the most moving performances ever.
  7. i want to see if Gonga recognise me at all! I was supposed to support them at Kef, and spoke to them briefly in soundcheck. The remainder of the evening was spent in total darkness so i doubt they'll recognise me
  8. i use limewire which is pretty damn good, i find. Also, kazaa-lite ++ is not bad. KC Easy is another one also
  9. Anyone going to see this charity battle of the bands event at the Lemon Tree??? All money raised goes towards funding a year in Sri Lanka so John McIntosh can teach kids English (with the Project Trust programme). Awesome line up: Turning 13 AKA The Fox Dedalus The Void 13th June, at the Lemon Tree. Be there!!!!!
  10. Bob Dylan Mark Knopfler Syd Barret Roger Waters Leonard Cohen Nick drake Hawkwind!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. yeah there is one in bruce millers. They ordered two and i got one. It's totally awesome. Great sounds and its relatively easy to use too.
  12. well none of you can argue with this one "I know nothing except my own ignorance" - Socrates That's normally how i make a quick escape from arguments im losing
  13. I dont watch any music channels - nothing there for me every time i check them out. Although i do occassionaly check in with VH1 for some laughs. But i just imagined Mike from the Cavern having a pirate sky channel... Oh god that would be nuts
  14. It's nothing to do with the people in them - i just think they look silly. They are actually quite funny. I generally don't like shorts. But 3/4 shorts top it off for me though. How did emo come out of the 80s though? I thought the 80s only created shoulder pads and post-traumatic 80s stress syndrome (AKA Early 90s syndrome). I.e. MC Hammer, Milly Vanilly (that what they were called?)
  15. So your saying Satriani came out of Hendrix? Ok, fair enough if thats what he said. But listening to Satriani, i think everybody would be inclined to say hes playing tricks started by van halen. Theres very little (from what ive heard) that sounds like Hendrix from Satriani.
  16. Has that 3/4 shorts gone to ppl's hearts? there was supposed to be an element of humour behind it But i do dislike 3/4 shorts a lot. Just something about them i don't get...
  17. I really don't care. One thing which confuses me how people call "emo" a genre, but the amount of music i hear that gets labelled emo is crazy. Im guessing emo isn't a genre as a result. It seems to me that anything people don't like gets called emo. Emo is almost just the "in" word. Its a phase and will end just like the 80s did. Fortunately i will be able to honestly tell my children that i stayed well clear of the emo path. PS One thing that IS emo, is 3/4 length shorts. Sorry guys, but when i see those shorts i really want someone to beat my head into the ground with a baseball bat.
  18. I can't help feeling this thread is all about technique and speed... Hendrix and Van Halen are justified answers, but Satriani? He just came straight out of Van Halen. Vaughan, who i love, came right out of Hendrix too. And for the hell of it, i'll throw in another two of my favourites (but not the best) Mark Knopfler, Dave Gilmour
  19. No Jimi Hendrix? Predictable, yes, but only because he was the most revolutionary guitarist EVER!!!! The likes of Van Halen wouldn't have been able to identify their unique style. Hendrix took his style from NOWHERE. Nobody was there for him to take the sound from, and he just created the sound that is truelly timeless, and totally changed the way we played guitar from then on. Van Halen was kind of original like hendrix, but not nearly as important a figure. Technically, Hendrix is not the greatest guitarist (tho by all means hes still fucking awesome), but i can't imagine anyone EVER overtaking hendrix in the ranks. He gave birth to distortion. He was the original, and pulled it out from nowhere. Also his song writing really brought the blues forward, and is simply amazing. You can NOT blow this man off...
  20. I thought Apraxia rocked. They are no more "samey" than most other bands and atleast they have the benefit of sounding orinigal. I haven't heard the mp3s, but i can only assume that they won't come across as cool as they did live. 'll give them a listen though, and look forward to seeing the band live again. If at all possible, it would also be cool to play another gig with this band.
