  2. well fair enough you can get the odd 2nd hand one going for 30 quid but i'll resign to the fact that they are in the region of 80 quid brand new and genuine.... mine is genuine and 2nd hand though...
  3. I entirely accept this point, however I was reading THIS specifically: This to me does not say Shure SM57?? Good quality for vox and instruments is not an SM57? And the fact that he would consider 2 different mics means he doesn't want a 30 quid jack of all trades .... he wants a GOOD mic for doing vocals and acoustics.... Now imo that has to be a large diaph. condenser which will happily handle both... now it's true sm57 would do the job, but it seems that just "doing the job" insn't what the guy wanted is it?? Of course i've used a shure on an acoustic before but I only ever use it mic'n at the fretboard, usually 12th fret or so and occasionally right at the sound hole and only in combination with a LDC further away for body and warmth.
  4. woah 200 quid... that's a bloody deal that.... I was gonna say before you put in on eBay replace the knobs and you'll get a much better price but it's too late lol....
  5. It's not really about that, it's just that for this particular situation there are better options than an SM57... tis all...
  6. it would be great to mic the bottom side of the chair too there - would create a great full snare sound!!!
  7. Ah great post, and a well presented arguement, which would have been GREAT except YOU did this earlier: In fact the phrase I would use to describe this comment is: "you [are] so arrogant that you can't accept another persons opinion" Well I'm glad we've got this sorted, basically you have presented yourself as a twat, and have continued to fill out that first impression and finished it off with a lovely spot of hypocrisy. Lovely work friend. Just brilliant. PS. You are 26?? I am barely over 3 years your junior and you talk to me like I'm 14 when in fact you are acting like the teenager... well I'm glad this display is in the public domain, it's too good to go unappreciated!
  8. The 2 mics I suggested are less than 100 so I suspect that you don't actually know what you are talking about... you have used a SM57 and thats about it correct? So you think you now know what to recommend? What has actually happened is that you are wrong, soundian who is a well-known and respected sound engineer agrees with my suggestion of a large diaph. conderser - however it should be noted that this really does depend on phantom power capabilities. Next time, before you wade in spouting insults check that (a) you know what you are talking about, (b) that the other party doesn't know what they are talking about and © you remembered to bring a leg to stand on. Final comment: The SM57 is a Good, affordable, well made, versatile mic like you said... yes well done. Infact I myself use it all the time. HOWEVER, the chap came asking for a versatile mic and by versatile he SPECIFED ACOUSTIC and VOCALS. The perfect choice for these 2 applications is a large diaphram condenser and NOT a dynamic like the SM57, good as it is you can simply get a better mic.
  9. haha what a delightful comment... you're recommendation is wrong. You may use a SM57 but there are much better mic's out there to use for this particular applicatoin. FACT. If he wanted it for other applications not just vox and acoustics then the sm might be a good choice but as it stands and SM is not the correct choice, regardless of how many personal insults you have stuffed up your tighened arsehole
  10. Why does everyone just say that mic? If you read what he was using it for then the SM47 is NOT at all suitable for that kind of application. If he needed to mic his guitar cab then maybe I'd suggest it... but for vocals and acoustic? SM57 = no no in this case. I would get a pair of stereo condensors for the acoustic combined with a large-diaph cond. for vocals although this is actually 3 mics so not an option.... You need to be looking at large diaphram condensors for vox and acoustic, and this is especially versatile if you want to do any other instruments and maybe record vox and guitar at the same time. This like the behringer or a Marshall MXL67 or 69 can't remember which will be ideal... look here for advice: Home Recording Forums DO NOT GET A SHURE SM57....
  11. noway!! that guy (Chris Harvey i think) lives near Drumlithie... didn't know he was a heavy metaller - that's cool haha
  12. No I'm not a Bal-Sagoth fan, I was just being sarcastic as I assumed you were also being making up the "Bal-Sagoth-esque" title as you did.... They are fairly outside of the realms of what I get listening pleasure from tbh....
  13. I have seen : ( live and very much disliked them... horrible stuff. I'll give them that it's different and "fresh" but in this case, in a bad way.
  14. well I didn't know that... there you go people....
  15. i think that proves that you can't please everyone anyway!! Hopefully people can at least get something out of our music... perhaps it's misconceptions of our use of the words "power metal" that are putting you off?? Basically we are guitar driven heavy metal with lots of dark influence from Gregor including Symphony X, Blind Guardian, Nevermore, Iced Earth and others with "lighter" influences from me inc Hammerfall, Gamma Ray, etc.... It's basically Heavy Metal so it's not cheese gay like Rhapsody or anything lol
  16. Many of the people at our gigs like hardcore music, i know this for a fact... perhaps they are more open-minded than myself and also expand to enjoy our musical style aswell, for the sentiment here is not returned... If people don't enjoy support acts, then that just happens... i often despise the supports of many bands I have seen in the past: most notable the HORRIFIC Mendeed when they supported Dragonforce in Aberdeen. I have had to endure this abomination of a "band" 2 times while waiting to see Dragonforce.... disgusting. Infact, ironically this is the exact opposite situation, where before we had Hardcore band supporting Dragonforce (power-metal) - here we see t'other way around. Either way, come along and you never know you might actually like our songs! Shock Horror!
  17. touche salesman! but back to the why are people making such a stink about the support?? who cares?? it'll be a fun gig regardless...
  18. Well I disagree there, I say that Funeral for a Friend are nothing to do with Iron Maiden, likewise Trivium. I disagree that they are different generations of the same thing.... But the point is who cares???
  19. MySpace.com incase people didn't know who we are...
  20. interesting but I don't think Everwicked sounded like us.... apples and oranges I guess. And to the people moaning about the support choice - LOL is all i can say. I used to moan about support bands not fitting headliners ALL THE TIME and got comments like "variety is good" "your gay, doesn't matter who the support are" etc... Infact famously I ranted about the TRULY AWFUL Funeral for a Friend and Trivium being Iron Maiden's latest UK support bands - now THAT is dog shit....
  21. you main angle of attack has to be shopping - and you may have to make a sacrifice here: Tell her in exchange for seeing these bands you will go shopping with her in NYC - and your not allowed to complain and women and their shopping habits! This would surely work....
  22. it's not so much burning a bridge as to setting fire to a gorge which is filled with nettles and gorse bushes... either way this thread is way too far off track.... Scorge - i guess you are finished digging with it now?
