Forgot to add, you finally answered my question. OK, now we know I'm allowed to have an opinion, why is any other human beings opinion more or less valid than mine. i.e. why would you respect the opinion of a politicaly active person more than my opinion.

I hope everyones realised that the publicity for this was generated by the people opposing free speech, this publicity led to a prime time advert for racists all over Scotland. TV pictures of people protesting=news. TV pictures of a skinhead entering and leaving a building on Queen Street=not news.

That's exactly why they out-thought everyone. People view them as "risible monkeys" and "knuckle dragging neanderthals", (which is dangerously close to what they believe I think) and not as human beings with the same mental capacity as non-racists.* Just because there is no logic behind their belief doesn't mean they can't apply logic. *obviously I'm not talking about gollum here. He did his job well and probably got a pat on the head fom his master.
