I'm usually first in the queue to bash the Edinburgh "scene" (full of funk wank student bands etc), but there are some really good things happening just now, and anyone visiting would do well to pay a visit to the new Sneaky Pete's on the Cowgate and to check out the work Broken Friend Records are doing.

I must say, I'm quite a fan of the short, sharp shock approach to sets. 25 minutes of good music will always blow me away more than 40 minutes of tedius noodling, topped off with the oh-so-predictable climax of noise/turn on delay pedals/leave guitar against monitor and leave ending. I mean this in regard to "local" bands - I'd happily watch (and have) Idlewild or good period Radiohead for ages.

Slap bass is fucking awful.
