  1. maybe the jazzer's aren't interested in posting on here? i dunno. you get some hip hop folks posting occasionally. i don't think it's because of any kind of ostracisation that you see more punk and metallers posting on here than folk or jazz musicians i think it's probably just cause the kids and the younger people are mainly into punk and metal and theyr'e the ones that have the time and inclination to sit and post on messageboards all the time. plus maybe the folk and jazz musicians just don't know about this site. i've never seen any actual agression against cover's acts, it's a way to make some extra cash innit? but i do think they should be seen as lesser bands than ones who create their own music. but that's a whole other discussion.
  2. wether people have had success in the past is surely irrelevent. do we all agree that more coverage for aberdeen bands is a good thing and indeed is something that the p and j should be doing anyway as a part of it's local coverage remit? yes. good then we can continue with trying to persuade them that regular coverage is needed then.
  3. the p and j have always been exceptionally keen to print any rumour regarding driveblind and i have no doubt that this is probably due to a member working for them at one point. can't remember which one it was who worked for them. it doesn't matter that the band contacted them, why print that? when we were organising an all day gig at the beach ballroom we sent a press release to the p and j and the evening express to try and obtain sponsorship and they refused to even talk to us and this was with a man on the inside fighting our case(plus it was for charity). so don't take one article about fat hippy as anything other than a token fucking gesture. plus it was a tad patronising as well. as all p and j music articles seem to be, they seem to think it's all some kind of phase people go through. humour them and then they'll go away. hopefully if people send them well constructed letters and emails then they might start to get the idea.
  4. and also let the police know too, though i'm sure you've already done that. and stick posters up in bruce millers, r and b and one up.
  5. just emailed them this: Hi, it is with great dismay i read an article in your paper today about a band called mid life crisis who play covers of popular rock songs and are in need of a singer. While i appreciate their predicament surely the space you gave to this band would have been better used to promote the young bands in Aberdeen who actually put time and energy into creating their own music and to whom it is more than just a bit of fun and a hobby. Aberdeen is incredibly lucky in that it has a large and varied local music scene disproportionate to the size of it's population. With the increased interest in Scottish pop music in general just now due to the success of bands like Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol surely now is the time for the Press and Journal and Evening Express to fully get behind the local bands in Aberdeen(not just the covers bands) and give them the support they deserve. Bands such as Eric Euan(recently voted best band in aberdeen at a local music awards night), Politik, Dedalus, My Minds Weapon, The X-certs, Contra, Lift, Red Man Walking, Sidca, Masamune, and so on all deserve regular coverage in your papers because they put everything they have into creating music and trying to make a career out of it not just a hobby. If you can send a reporter to a highland league game which attracts a hundred people then surely you can send them to watch local bands who attract similar crowds? Another point i'd like to address was the continued absence of any coverage of the GoNorth music festival in your paper. This is a yearly music showcase festival which attracts bands from all over Scotland and Europe as well as bringing record industry people up from all over the UK. The festival is usually centered on Belmont Street and is advertised and promoted well in advance yet receives no coverage or acknowledgment in the P & J or the Evening Express despite being supported by the UK music industry as a whole. I appreciate there was a feature recently on Fat Hippy Records but they are not just an unusual case in Aberdeen, they are the norm. Currently there are a number of young people who are trying to establish record labels in the North East and all could use the support of a newspaper that was prepared to finally acknowledge what's been happening in Aberdeen for over ten years now, a music scene to be proud of, a music scene that is just as healthy as Glasgow or Manchester's and a music scene that is ours and needs your support. Thanks David Officer
  6. i'm an eric euan fan and i post on here. yea i'd agree eric euan are probably the best alternative rock band in aberdeen. one of the biggest too, i mean they were voted best band in the whole of aberdeen at the fudge awards.
  7. really? that's awesome. i love the artwork on lift your skinny fists and even considered getting a tattoo of the cover at one point. wish i'd gone to that now.
  8. read it here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,176-1151723,00.html
  9. i bid for that one too, but realised it was going to spiral out of range pretty early on.
  10. hehehe' date=' they could do a follow up article for the digital age. [b']27 RECORD STORE CLERKS RECIEVE SASSER VIRUS THROUGH GODSPEED EBAY AUCTION "it was their first 7 inch, you almost never see that on ebay!" said one sobbing clerk geek. or something along those lines.
  11. i just won something i've been searching for for a very very long time. a copy of a canadian fanzine called amazezine which gave away one of the first godspeed you black emperor releases free with an issue of their magazine. twas a split 7" with le fly pan am. every time i've seen it before it's gone for a small fortune and i just won it for twenty quid! result. sorry, i know this is probably of little interest to anyone but i'm really quite excited and had to tell someone.
  12. i was shocked and amazed to see dEUS playing as well!! if you're going, then check them out. fucking brilliant belgian band who split up a while ago and seem to have reformed on the sly. kinda arty and beefhearty and great. dead noisy when they want to be too.
  13. i don't think the lyrics are that bad, certainly not tre poor anyhow. but i know steven wasn't fully happy with it anyway. though i really liked the guitar part i played in it. nice understated reverby bit.
  14. and best of all they're freeeeeeeee!!! these are to promote the forthcoming split ep by dedalus and politik out july/august on nomad am records and fingers crossed in all good record shops around the country. get them while they're hot!
  15. that is truly one of the most amazing things i've ever seen.
  16. we get delivery's every single day. depends on the company though, some companies only send us stuff once a week some send us stuff everyday. the best thing to do is come up to the counter and order it, it takes but two seconds and certainly is a lot handier than posting a thread that you have to check back every day in case someone answered your question. delivery dates wouldn't help you anyway because distributors can be out of stock as well.
  17. we may bring everything has gone to hell back just not right now. we weren't happy with how it sounded and the way it developed so we'll go back to the drawing board on it i think.
  18. yea we still play it, i think we have developed a natural gift for dropping our most popular songs from time to time. not sure why. it will also feature on our ep with politik.
  19. am i just being unreasonable or are you trying to wind me up? do you realise how patronising that sounds? and it's just avoiding the question as well, i really don't see how a number of bands using the same guitar can lead to them having similar sounds or musical styles. so what exactly do telecasters have to do with anything? telecasters have been used for every style of guitar music ever created. from pop, punk, blues, jazz, metal, hardcore, post-rock, indie, country, you name it and someone has done it using a telecaster so it hardly points to a group of people doing the same thing. and the oxes point i made was merely an aside and not meant to be part of a constructive argument, um, btw.
  20. i really tried hard not to reply to this again but i can't let this one go, what's telecasters got to do with it? the oxes play travis bean guitars, same as steve albini. they have aluminuim necks and give that nasty metallic sound. the guitarist in edinburgh band red admiral also has one, it's nice. as does efrim from godspeed.
  21. well raymond says 25 years so i'm just going with that. might just be 25 years since it was a shop on it's own.
  22. i didn't take you too literally, you said there was a lot of bands doing the same thing on it. how am i meant to take that if not literally, it's a hardly a metaphor. or was it meant to be a surrealist statement? or did you just mean they all play guitars? look, i was just trying to address what i thought was an unfair statement, that is all.
