  1. currently re-reading 101 reykjavik by Hallgrmur Helgason which is about a slacker living in reykjavik. quite funny.

also working my way through adobe photoshop cs3 for photographers which isn't as funny.

  2. Not sure why you're smiling, surely you won't be able to get anything like as good a deal in the current financial climate?

yea the locked fixed rate that we're on just now is far higher than many of the deals out there just now as i couldn't afford a deposit so got a 100% mortgage. it won't save me a helluva lot to be honest but remortgaging will save a few pennies at least.

it's like everything else you got to play the system as best you can for yourself and shop around. no point sticking with northern rock just for the sake of it.

  3. yea i'm looking to remortgage this year too so will be monitoring the market quite closely but as chris says the north-east of scotland is different from the rest of the country as house prices are still rising here as there's a lack of supply. the market has stalled briefly but i'd imagine it'll pick up again in the next couple of months. shame they didn't drop the interest rate today as that might have made remortgaging a bit easier but we'll just have to see what it's like in the summer.

  4. i've been hammering the bbc radio iplayer this week and have listened to as much of their shows as interests me so i'm now looking for some recommendations for online listening pleasure. are there any shows worth listening to regularly? i like a bit of everything but mainly folk/alt-country, post-rock, stoner/doom and more experimental stuff. also like hip hop and electronica. not really interested in techno, clubbing stuff, easy listening, or gangsta rap.

  5. Ha! Yeah, the DJ classic alongside dicking around with the pause in the middle of Sabotage and looping the start of Song 2 long enough for a toilet break or trip to the bar.

I heard Intergalactic on Radio 2 (!!!) this evening, made a bet it would be on your list ;)

and of course intergalactic had to be accompanied by the whole dance floor doing rubbish robot dancing.

  6. There's a lot of talk about Hutton being scared of failure; since there'd be big expectations of him being a success down south. Perhaps there is some truth in it? Must be easier to play against the likes of Roy McBain and co, than it would be to play against Cristiano Ronaldo 8-)

that seems a bit unfair. how's he meant to win with that? if he stays he's scared, if he goes he's just in it for the money.

  7. There's a new Steak and lobster house on Crown Terrace where the old La Bamba was. I went in before Christmas and the food was pretty good.

Other favourites include Musa and La Stella.

(Although my secret shame is 'China Kingdom'.) Great food, shit restuarant.

what happened to la bamba? it was alright. does that mean the only mexican place left is that place down the beach? bah.

  8. my friends have booked cellar 35 out for two private functions now(nothing special just fancied a party) and it's been great both times. friendly bar staff and a great wee pub in the centre of town. it's like having your own pub for the night plus you can hire cd decks from atmosphere lighting and sound for 40 so we all took turns djing as well. good times indeed.

  9. it's all the agents fault. they'll be whispering nonsense into the ears of these guys telling them they'll be huge down south and saying they'll definitely get a game if they move then by the time they realise the agent has already cashed the cheque.

  10. Tom, try the Olive Tree on Queens Road, very nice food.

To be honest, the Silver Darling is very expensive i.e. they don't even have a pricelist for their wine selection. Very good food but I don't think it's good value for money even for a posh restaurant. For a couple of bottles of vino and a meal you are probably looking at 100 per person.

i'll second that olive tree recommendation actually, twas very nice when we went there a few years back. i'm sure it's still good. simpsons is meant to be ok too.

  11. I'd be in for that. I play it most nights at the moment. Thats when Xbox live isn't playing silly buggers.....

aye it's crap in the evenings once america logs on. runs great during the day though. i don't know why they don't just do british servers or something to fix this nonsense.

  12. i have to say call of duty 4 and skate have been ruling the roost for me this year though halo3 was pretty good too and as soon as mass effect arrives it'll probably be near the top of my list.

mass effect has arrived and i have to say it's awesome. great immersive story and good combat mode. don't like the amount of time spent in the lifts and there's a couple of other niggles but it's rockin so far.
