Bassists. Anyone?
Everyone plays bass. Come jam with us!
damn, i just came to bump this only to discover you'd beaten me to it.
so any bass demons out there? do you like fist pumping, head nodding rock and ass shaking funk? do have an open mind as to how a band can sound? fancy having a jam and just seeing how it goes? the send myself or original spies a pm or post here.
no grand ambitions, just want to have some fun and make a noise.

anyone got the new black mountain album? whaddya think?
first one was ace and this one is equal to the task although there isn't a track as standout as say drugonaut or the one that goes "1,2,3 another pop explosion" but there is some quality classic rock riffage and lovely psychadelia pop moments. noticed there's a new dead meadow out too but my funds are too limited at present.
bitchin.

i'm in it for reason number 1. i've not listened to the band and don't care if they're good or bad. but i have always maintained that aberdeen journals need to step up their coverage of the music scene in aberdeen if it's to progress. it needs new people getting involved all year round not just every september and should get proper critical coverage not just fawning quarter page articles written by the cousin of the band or something.
-
you also have to question why a 15 year old schoolboy is in a band called erotic fire.
-
*raises hand* i do!
i shall send a pm.

Was that the one i sold you?
dunno, i got two copies somehow and can't remember who i got them from. i think you sold me a couple of the final fantasy's right? i'm keeping one copy of each but i seem to have two copies of FF7 and 8 and need to raise some cash so i figured they'd be good for my first foray into ebay selling.
-
I got my hands on two copies of this last year and have finally got round to selling the spare. It's still at a low price with a day left and only 3 folk watching so could be a bargain for someone. in great condition with no scratches or marks.
word.

have the tunnels finally seen the error of their ways and are allowing outside promoters to put clubnights on again?
good news indeed. about time the tunnels had a decent regular night again.

oh dear god.

You were forced into a horse?
? that would be only slightly funny even if i had made that typo but seeing as it quite clearly says 'onto the horse' then you're just forcing that inuendo in there where it doesn't belong. shame on you.
-
yea hardly a shocker but still frustrating when great bands wither and die. meh, wish i'd gotten to see them.
-
i don't think it's advisable to include your mobile phone number on the internet. just throwing that out there.
good luck with the band, more bands should sound like dr dre crossed with lous armstrong and arab strap.

In that case...
haha, nice. i could ride in standing atop the shovel part doing a hero pose.
-
Eh? Since when?
And why?
i'm okay with them when they're behind a fence or whatever but don't like riding one or being behind them. and since we were kids and i was forced onto one at some silly holiday park.
but it's by the by, horse and cart isn't suitable as it's only for me and i want something more manly, grr *puts on manly muscle pose*
-
any idea on price yet?
-
they're genuinely all good but tindersticks 2 is a pretty good one to start with. after that get tindersticks, curtains and simple pleasures and pick up the rest when you can. they did a good couple of live albums too.
-
Horse and cart?
i'm scared of horses.

Same here and at any time of the day...
'Host Ends Game' it's a bit annoying but can't complain really...
yes we can! we pay for this stinking service! gamers unite!

Kartta aren't "indie" - they're postrockinfluencedmelodramatictwistedguitarpop.
That just lost them tens of votes.
i knew there was a reason i quit...

One of my mates has an older lotus and tvr. Good nick too.
Doubt he'd loan them out though Dave, but I could enquire.
doesn't have to be a loan if he's free for a few hours on april 26th to drive it round stonehaven.
the problem i've had is that for the distance i'm travelling it seems quite excessive to pay hundreds of pounds for a fancy car to come up from glasgow but i don't want a traditional wedding car. it's either a cool but classy sports car or a classic american car. or a taxi.
-
I'm sure there is a classic car rental somewhere in Banchory. Having said that, I am ill and slightly delirious so may have dreamt walking past a row of Rolls Royce's in Raemoir Avenue ...
it's really not rolls royces or bentley's i'm after. needs to be something a bit cooler.
Aberdeen Journals and local music
in Music Discussion
Posted
fo sho, any band in aberdeen that has acheived any success has worked fucking hard at it with my minds weapon and copy haho being prime examples.
however that doesn't mean that we should ignore the fact that aberdeen journals do almost fuck all to support and cover music in aberdeen. i couldn't give a shit if any band i'm involved in gets covered by the p and j or becomes famous. not because i'm holier than thou or diy till i die or any of that shit but just because music is a hobby for me and i don't want it to take up a huge amount of my time. but there's a lot could be done in aberdeen if the whole city was pulling in the same direction. as aberdeen journals reach someone in almost every home in the northeast it would be stupid to dismiss them and say the music scene in aberdeen couldn't use that kind of coverage.
all it would take is a page. one page of news, interviews and reviews a week of purely local music acts. just to try it and see how it goes. a proper critical page which provokes discussion and interest not just "black atom played a gig and they were ace. they played all their bestest songs and everyone left smiling and happy".
of course you don't need them to be successful but the more interest and diversity in the scene the more interesting it all is. otherwise it's just a bunch of snobby music geeks arguing amongst themselves and repeating the same stupid threads over and over and over again getting fucking nowhere.
and before any smartarse chips in and suggests i get off my arse and do something about it i've tried, damnit i've tried. i've written letters and harrassed them. i've been involved in organisations who were trying to do get support for charitable music events in aberdeen and gotten nothing from them. i've been in bands and tried to get coverage. i've promoted club nights and tried to get coverage. i've spoken to numerous reporters who work for them and at the end of the day they just don't give a fuck(the bosses, not the reporters as they generally did seem interested). they are and shall forever always be a provincial little gossip rag until they start showing some initiative. aren't they meant to be journalists? how hard is it to pick two local gigs a week to go and review?
at least original 106 are doing something but that's helped by some genuine enthusiasm for what's happening in aberdeen on their part.
