  1. well what did you think? i saw it yesterday and was a bit underwhelmed. i'm not a big fan of musicals but thought this one would be different. my main problem being that it takes so long to move a plot forward through song. if it hadn't been a musical the film would have only lasted 30 minutes.

still, it was very good for what it was. the feel of the film was very familiar to burton fans. gothic and dark yet with a fantasy feel to it all. all the performances were pretty solid with timothy spall being a particular standout as the creepy beadle. some genuine laugh out loud moments too like helena bonham carters seaside song and johnny depps wonderfully depressed facial expressions throughout it. the songs were pretty good too and the cast struck a good balance between solid singing and characterisation.

if you're squeemish then i'd be wary of watching this though. there is a lot of blood, almost to levels previously seen in splatter films like braindead. and the end is particularly gruesome.

so despite the fact that it's a musical i would say it's a good film though if you already don't like musicals then don't expect this to be too different.

  2. Because they're entitled to their point of view, whether you agree with it or not. I think this lot are funny as fuck and I wouldn't waste any energy getting worked up over it. It's interesting that people attack them so venomously though, maybe denying a part of themselves that secretly agrees with them?

Remember chimp, opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one, and they all fucking stink.

or maybe they just find them to be a completely abhorrent group who prey on peoples grief to get a reaction and more publicity for their particularly hateful brand of christian extremism.

they should be entitlted to their point of view but they should be prevented from infringing on families grieving and private services. they should also be prevented from inciting hate crimes against any other person or group. free speech and other liberties should only apply to those who accept it for the whole of society.

there's a whole world of difference between saying "i think homosexuality is bad and the bible says it's wrong"(an mere opinion, albeit an old fashioned and unfortunate one) to the vile hateful rhetoric of this 'church'.

  3. not to be for havant, now 4-2 liverpool and derby clawed one back in the end. bbc says chris clark scored after a pass was deflected to him and he drove it in from the right side of the box with david james helpless. which sounds unlikely for clark :)

  4. Vintage Dedalus when it was:

    Steven Rainey

    David Officer

    Robert Smith

    Alan Bain

Easily one of the most brilliant bands I ever did see live.

What followed after Alan and David left was largely pointless and uninspiring though, sadly.

yea but that's not in the last year though is it? which is what this poll is for. :)

  5. real shame, he was a talented chap. i know it's not a serious film but i only saw a knights tale recently as i thought it looked shit before but it was actually pretty good fun. he was looking to be a very important actor and his joker looked pretty interesting.
