  1. Hello folks, Dave here.

I have some sad news to announce. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, I am leaving Kartta. My last gig will be at Moshulu supporting the Twilight Sad which should be an awesome way to go out.

Since we started the band a couple of years ago we've had a great time and I've enjoyed almost every minute of it. I am particularly proud of some of the songs we've written and the reaction of the audiences. The gig that sticks out the most was the recent one with Katerwaul, Greater the Shadow and Fault and Fracture. Great atmosphere and people actually dancing and having a great time to our songs.

The main crux of the matter is simply priorities and mine aren't the band. I'm getting married later this year and I'm the only member of the band who has a career as such which has been quite restrictive for opportunities to play out of town. It's clear the rest of Kartta feel that they have the potential to move forward and have a career as Kartta, whereas I simply can't commit to that level of work. Kartta was always a hobby for me and it's not fair to hold the rest of the group back.

I'm leaving on the best of terms with the guys and will continue to support them and hopefully collaborate in other areas.

Thanks for all the support and kind words over the years and if anyones interested in what keeps me so busy check out David Officer Photography

    Ta min!

  2. what do you think about that? aside from the fact the game itself sounds a bit crap(more cartoony graphics? in battlefield?) i think this is the future of mass market games and i'm sure microsoft will be watching very closely as they've spoken before about doing thsi kind of thing with the 360.

i certainly wouldn't mind a few adverts in games if it saved me 50 but i'm a bit wary of micro-payments as they seem to be a way of squeezing money for things which should have been included anyway. for example the 800 microsoft points(about 4) it costs for 3 halo 3 maps. there should be strict rules regarding the pricing and implementation of extra content and indeed advertising in games.

  3. So they were BOTH wrong?

Seriously, its a complete waste of time calling NHS 24 - but Dave, why the fuck are you looking up symptoms on the website? I assume you're not a complete idiot, so if you're a bit peaky, take paracetamol +/- ibuprofen. If you're sicker than that, see your GP, and if you're REALLY fucked, go to A+E/call and ambulance.

NHS 24 is for fuckwits with no common sense (and is run by them too!).

i was mainly bored at work.

rest and paracetamol seems to be sorting me out. :)

  4. Aside from the fact that myspace brutalises the guitar sound and drums i bet that sounds great on CD.

You guys are so achingly retro in a good way (not the faux, fashionable way) in both overall sound and song composition, i fucking love it.

Stop bloody well re-recording the song though, settle on this version for god's sake ;)

i think we're pretty settled on this version now. i particularly like the ending.

  5. FMA'08 = TUNNELS, FRI 18 APRIL

in the meantime, vote for your favouritest most missed thing of the last year. i reckon we can all see the way this one'll go...

y'reckon? lemon tree might get disqualified if it's actually saved and i think it'll be quite close between the needles and fiction/action otherwise.

  6. You'll be fine, Dave...just forget about any illness/pain etc and go to bed (but first, quickly scribble on a wee bit of paper that you'd like Alan Cynic to have all your worldly goods if you don't waken up)

(Think I tried this with Camie a while ago...but he's not pushing up the daisies yet).

ha, i don't have many wordly goods so i'm afraid you'd be fairly disappointed. :)

  7. anyone else find this website absolutely terrifying and useless?

everytime i've ever used it because i'm not feeling to hot and just want to know what i should take to feel a bit better and it always ends up saying i should dial 999 and ask for an ambulance.

like just now i've felt a bit off allday but nothing too serious so i looked up some of my symptoms on nhs 24 and at one point today i felt a bit dizzy so i looked up dizziness. first thing it asked was if i was unconcious to which i obviously replied no. it then asked if i had any of a whole list of symptoms one of which was feeling sick but others were tight pain across the chest and a pain in the left arm. i'd felt a little sick earlier so i said yes and it told me to phone an ambulance. bah.

as a few people at work have been off with colds and virus' i'm certain it's nothing too serious and was just curious as to what i should be doing to feel a bit better. imagine how many people must waste ambulance and hospitals time cause of this but at the same time it's probably saved a few lives too.

  8. the thing about the booze argument is that most of the people i know can quite happily get completely messed up on alcohol and make it home without raising a fist to anyone so i just don't buy it as an excuse for violence. it might make violent people more disposed to being violent but those idiots are still violent people to start with.

i don't think enough is done in the courts to put people off attacking others and perhaps that's because there's too many people in jail for other things which they could get community service for or perhaps there's not enough jails. if you violently attack someone you should give up your liberty for a while.

  9. Hi Dave, i came across this by accident and thought i should explain what happened here. When we last played in Aberdeen at The Lemon Tree it was a pretty dispiriting experience. It was pretty obvious from the second we started that very few people in the crowd were particularly interested in hearing us and most were having loud conversations (including those in the front row) which made it very hard for us to hear what we were doing. We are not that precious about how audiences react when we play as is suggested above but this night was probably in the top 3 worst concerts we have ever played and this was largely due to the crowd (the security were terrible too which just added to the general crapness of the night). To explain why we haven't been back is simple, when we finish a record and plan our tours we decide what countries we are going to and then remember which ones we enjoyed playing and then move on with organizing the dates. Since the last time we played Aberdeen was far from fun (though i'm sure lots of people wouldn't think that our gigs are that fun anyway) we have not played there since. Aberdeen isn't the only place that we have missed out due to bad shows, we skipped Boston and the entire nation of Sweden for pretty long times for identical reasons and have since been back. I've always had a good time in Aberdeen except when playing and would like to come back with the band sometime Maybe if the next time a quiet band comes to Aberdeen and the audience are behaving atrociously you should ask the person next to you to be quiet and all of this might be prevented. I hope this reply isn't deemed too"petulant", i try to be nice.

    all the best

    Stuart Braithwaite

ps The m&m's were also the wrong colour incidentally.

ha, can't say fairer than that i suppose eh? i never expected a personal reply. good to have it explained and i can only hope you do come back to aberdeen sometime and that you have a much better time of it. you shouldn't let the idiots ruin the fun for the rest of us! :)
