  2. I'm not surprised. What a waste of atoms you are, Bri-Bri!
  3. Re: Re: Re: Re: Just to put this into perspective... No, I don't think you did. It was a running thing that big Baz's bass used to make people feel quesy. I think your only gripe was singer Andy cupping the microphone.
  4. No, that one little valve can make a huge difference in sound, as the pre-amp is where most of your distortion is coming from. The power-amp is merely there to round it off and amplify it to make a loud enough noise out the speaker. EEC83 valves are cheap enough, so I'd recommend buying a few different ones and experimenting. JJ/TESLA, GrooveTube, etc. They are all slightly different in design and thus so will you sound. In my Marshall JCM800 2203, the EEC83 in V1 makes the biggest difference to the sound of the amp.
  5. A trip to Party Mania and some little red tubes of gore....
  6. Mz (S)hell(y) took a good one of me "bleeding" profusely from the neck, and Bri took one of me and Dan LoadedAtomWeapon bleeding together backstage.... Where are these shots, eh? Eh? Eh?!
  7. Re: Re: Just to put this into perspective... I'm sure he'll have Karloff in at some point though... Or Bonesaw....? I know how much you loved them, Ian. The bass in particular.....!
  8. So what did you think of your first Karloff gig then Shaz...?!
  9. Hmmm. I have a friend who could make you some carbon-fibre toilet cubicles... Pretty hard to mark or break if made well. Not the cheapest, tho!
  10. David, The Karloff Kult will be sad to see you go. Let us know when you're off and we'll come by the Tree to shout you a send-off beer!
  11. Sorry, but I've always thought that "Master of Puppets" had the best production of any 'Tallica record. All heavy metal albums should have been produced by Flemming Rassmussen. "St. Anger" is one of the most shockingly bad sounding alt CDs in recent times, and if I was Hetfield, I'd be breaking out the Remington and shooting Bob Rock in the kneecap. Several times. Despite many attemts (and I'm being totally honest, here), I cannot listen past track 1 on "St. Anger". I saw them 5 rows back at Donnington last year durning Download, and I thought the new stuff sat with the older-era stuff well. I was devastated when I heard the recorded version... They probably spent millions on trying to give it an old-era sound, and instead got something that sounds like it's been recorded in a cavern 200 yards from the drumkit. And the guitar sound is pissy and weak. AND they have one of the worlds most talented guitar soloists, and they don't let him do his thing. I think Jason Newstead left because of this draconian rule that Hetfield/Ulrich have, and I absolutely LOVE the last Voivod record he played on. Direct your firepower this way, if you think you can. To me, anyone who defends "St. Anger" is plainly deaf, or has never heard any other Metallica releases.
  12. Don't forget Derek Ross. He's probably singing as a backing singer for Dianna Ross now (what with his multi-multi octave voice, and all...), either that or the Dangerfields kidnapped him and keep him in the Dangercar. Who remembers the old Dangerfields frontman Cormak and his antics. I remember him lying on his back on the bar singing "Wasted Again".... Classic.
  13. Rejection is one of the worst feelings in the world. You can better articulate the reasons and suchlike face to face, but if you're on the receiving end then you'll feel supershit regardless of how it's done. I've only been the dumper once, and that was a hard, hard thing to do, but I did it face to face (she was practically living with me at the time). I didn't see or hear from her for months and months after she finally went, but I've seen her a few times of late and we've been friendly enough. Being the dumpee is tough too, you kinda end up trying to be just friends, but secretly hope to change their mind again. If it's definately over, then a clean break and time apart to just deal with it is least painful and best overall. Given a month or two, outlooks change and you can maybe ressurect the friendship. On cheating, I think that's a show-stopper for me. If you really cared about a person, then you'd never do it. The "grass is greener" syndrome is always going to hit you now and again, and I'll admit there's been a couple of times I've had an opportunity to cheat/stray, but I've always thought to myself 1) How do I feel about my girlf and 2) How would I feel if she did it to me. The answers to those questions have always made it easy for me to turn down the chance and help know how I feel about my girlfriend. If you cheat on someone then you obviously don't think that much of them, and certainly not enough to be going out with them. Taking someone back who has done this also seems pretty pointless to me.

  15. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3584897.stm Maybe they overpaid for Nob-end Williams....?
  16. They played me Beastie Boys and Soundgarden. It was like harking back to Mudd Club, only better
  17. Nope. I would like nothing more than to be bludgeoning the singer dude to death with assorted demolition heavy equipment, and some TNT just to be sure (and to show the eejit what AC/DC were talking about, in an ironic kind of way).
  18. Do the Darkness have to spoil every major festival this year with their prescence? Shame
  19. Yes, bands should be paid something. What? Well, that depends on a number of factors, most of which have been mentioned already, and on the promoter of the gig. I think that local acts are lucky in this respect in that even a really amateur or new band will get some cash from Dr Drakes at least, even if only their mates come along. Dr Drakes realises that bands should be paid, and also know that they well make money on some nights and loose money on others. In general, the door money gets split between the bands, and if it's not "enough" then they maybe subsidise it a little from the bar takings. How do any band gig outside their home town though....? My answer is that you have to offer something different that will grab people and get them keen to come to a gig with you on the bill. For Karloff, I guess that's the horror theme, the stage show, and the variety of music we play. Not many other bands do this combination, and we've also worked hard to build up a reputation that has spread from the gigs we've done in the central belt and England. Ergo, a promoter gets to hear a few comments from friends or gig-goers about us and they look us up and organise something. We can provide them with a good idea of what they'll get from us, and what we expect from them. So, I work out the real costs of us doing the gig (fuel, van, etc), and we negotiate. If it comes up a little short we may quite possibly still do the gig, and hope to either make up the shortfall from merch sales or use some of the profit from other gigs to plug the hole. But, we all expect to make some personal sacrifices when it comes to costs like rehearsing, strings, amps, repairs, etc. The main thing is that the outlay isn't too excessive and it's worthwhile because you enjoy playing in a band! So, if you want to make the thing work, then expect to spend loads of your own time and cash doing so. But, everything in life takes effort and sacrifice to get started. You just accept that it will be worthwhile and maybe, just maybe, you'll eventually make the hard work pay off. If all you can offer a promoter is some plain metal, punk, rock, emo, whatever show, then expect to be laughed at as it's nothing they can't get locally. Standing out on your own is hard to engineer, but that's what you have to make happen.
  20. Sadly, yes. They all love cock rock much too much and think Dr Drakes is only good as a live venue. Personally, I thought Valhella was the best alt clubnight I'd been to in years, but sadly I am either in Edinburgh on a Saturday night seeing my girlie or am busy working on motorcars with large engines.
  21. What?! All the artwork on the CD is Ash Ghoulmore original.... He spent days and days drawing, scanning, and then adjusting in Photoshop. No cut and pasting there, boyo! You wanna see the amount of concept work and pre-design he's done for our next recording.
  22. Re: Re: Re: exotic scales....? I noticed that one too.... Figured I might get ribbed if I mentioned it tho...
  23. 4 for a 4 track CD with a properly manufactured case and printed sleeve....?! Get real. That's less than 2 pints of beer.
  24. Re: Re: Re: Re: Fat Hippy Records - Aberdeen's only real record label. I'd say they've definately released CDs from a wide range of bands. Tom is F19s manager, so they were always likely to be releasing more on FHR, Funktree is Paul's band, so ditto them. No doubt Radio Lucifer will have some material out under the banner at some point too! As for us, well, we want to do more and Tom is keen for that to happen. I guess part of this is due to our slow-burn sales record for the first EP (still up near the top of the sales figures), higher profile the last year and a half, and our increasing push to gig further afield and tour with larger acts. I'd like to think that if Tom is still making some cash of the sales of our EP, that it's going towards giving other less well known or active local acts the opportunity to record for very little cash. I think your "mission" always has to be fluid and change as you need it to. I'm sure that Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords never had any intention of doing half the stuff the have in recent years at the start, but their popularity and sucess has allowed them to grow in a largely good way. If Tom can achieve similar with FHR, then I think he's doing the local music scene and the bands who make it a great service. The other thing about Tom's approach is his flexibility. He just wants to help local bands step up and develop, whether that's through them utilising his rehersal facilities or recording on his label. Take Double Jack for an example. They recorded their CD at the Mill and only released it through FHR. So, a little dialog with Tom and I'm sure there isn't much he isn't up for supporting you in. Top bloke.
