  1. Strangely enough I am reading "Hells Angels" by Hunter S Thompson just now. It makes a lot of references to punks and was published in the late 60s. Good book actually for anyone interested in counter culture in the US of A...
  2. Well in 1990 after my first ever job interview I walked down to One Up in Diamond Street. It just so happens that they were playing the Acid Reign LP and that was my fav at the time (it was slightly obscure & 2 nd rate thrash metal). I was rather happy and ended up getting the job... Dave
  3. Punk, like post rock started off as an idea and then ended up as sound. That sound gets a little tired after a time if we are honest and like change. The punk ethic lives on today on pirate stations, indy record labels, fanzines, websites and at gigs / festivals. Dave
  4. Well I've got two live tapes of them and its all BeefH related. A mate was just saying to me yesterday that they are so talented that its a pity they dont do other material... But to be fair Gary Lucas has released lots of solo stuff, Dave
  5. Have the reformed Magic Band ever played any non Beefheart music ? Dave
  6. You could always suggest your fav album is great for having sex to http://www.cdbaby.com/flavor/sexmusic or any of the other moods they mention... Dave PS the staff make One Up personel look really normal

  8. Aye the lighting tech deserves a bonus for the show last night. Overall twas a pretty good gig - lovely to see a tight support act. They remind me of early A/gramme and of the Trans Am gig earlier in the year. Sort of tight post prog rock blues in a nice way ? Clinic - good gig with exc lights. Great masks & gowns. The band seemed a little tired / tired of the set but they having been touring a lot lately. Poor audience numbers though... Dave
  9. When is the next Interesting Music event again....
  10. Makes it sound more like Krautrock than grindcore and thats good.... Maybe something to play when you want to get rid of some party guests ?
  11. Well I knew twas under or over. I blame a hot office...
  12. Somewhere in the town where you live is a middle-aged man who's been in a band since his late teens. His belly wobbles around under his too-tight, stained white tank top and his oil-slicked hair is tied up in a ponytail. To pay the bills, he does sound at the local bar. - the best start to a review I have read in ages...http://pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/c/clinic/walking-with-thee.shtml Oh and Aereogramme have signed with Overground. http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/10034.html Dave
  13. I should be in attendance for Clinic tonight - not sure what the support act are like but thats part of the fun... Dave
  14. I suppose I would include the following who were pretty influential on electronic music and the technology and techniques related to it.... Steve Reich Philip Glass Manuel Gottshlang "E2 E4" John Adams Alvin Lucier

Mum Pole New Order Matmos Four Tet Kid 606 & DJ Rupture rest of Tigerbeat 6 The Bug Photek Murcof Suicide Boards of Canada - I dont listen to them as such but use them to fall asleep to... Dave
  16. Are Bloc Party anything like Calvin Party ?
  17. Does anyone have this Invisible Jukebox book ? - I only started getting Wire a few years back but am considering a purchase, Dave
  18. It would be interesting if Avalanche Records were to take over the place. But they seem to have closed 2 of their 4 Edinburgh branches this year so I doubt it... I agree that Belmont Street and surrounding area has too many pubs/ clubs. Far too clustered. In years gone by all the people who wear dress shirts, little dresses & have orange skin stayed at the West End of Union St. Nae any more ! That new Hoagies type club on Gaelic Lane will open some time soon as well. (see my post yesterday) Dave
  19. Giles Peterson plays a lot of good jazz on his show at times (i.e. not acid jazz, but Blue Note, Sun Ra, Coltrane et al) http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/urban/tracklistings/peterson/20040715.shtml
