  5. http://somanyshrimp.com/2005/07/rapanese-part-i.html A nice introduction to Japanese hip hop for the curious out there... Who said you don't learn something new about music every day? If the Japanese can do great noise, pysch and reggae bands then why not hiphop? Dave
  6. forthcoming on reggae-reviews.com Pole "2" (Kiff) The sheer volume of decent reggae reissues from imprints such as Blood & Fire, Pressure Sounds and Auralux means that some dub fans just don't find out about acts such as Pole. Stefan Belke is Pole, and he runs the ~scape record label. Basically Pole is a one man dub machine like Twilight Circus. However the method of production and final sound varies dramatically between the two. Pole champions the glitchtronica sound of modern dub. His music is pure dubtronica and is similar to Sci-cut-db's sound. Two is an instrumental affair that manages to combine electronic glitches, space age keyboards, an echo chamber and a subtle but pounding bass. It ends up as a nice complete project that's rather digestible. It's not dub, electronica or techno it is simply the sound of Pole. three stars

  11. I like the sound of French Disko FM. It has a nice ring to it... Having been at loads of Int Music / Unknown Pleasures gigs over the last 3 or so years I can confirm that the promoters and gig attendees are not musical snobs...
  12. avoid the putting green at HH - its been turned into a nine holer and the grass is uneven and long to say the least... The pitch and putt is more fun though, as long as you dont land is a divot! Dave

  15. I've just been told the recording reminds someone of Mortuos Plango by Jonathan Harvey. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/cutandsplice/mortuos.shtml http://www.sargasso.com/media/mp3s/HarveyMortuos.mp3
  16. Bill, Rather enjoyed the "wind harp" samples. (http://www.yourradioplace.com/tourism/wildsharp.htm ) Maybe you should ask Adeen Harbour about becoming their artist in residence? However they may pay you in Watsons Rum. I think Adeen H are now sponsoring events @ the Ltree so you never actually know! Dave PS I wonder what noises the building will make once it is finished ? see http://www.aberdeen-harbour.co.uk/downloads/review_2004.pdf p8 for an artists impression
  17. Alan, You should set up your own blog http://www.blogscanada.ca/BlogDefinition.html It would be rather entertaining... cheers, Dave http://www.blogrolling.com/
  18. Mr Peep - heard the new ep by the Bug? Tis called "Fire" and not for all tastes! my review of it below, Dave The Bug ft Ras B "Fire" (Klein records) The Bug is still advancing his own brand of dancehall. The Fire Ep has vocals from Ras B who worked on Kevin's Aktion Park ep. Two vocal and two versions are included on this twelve inch. Dash a Fire is more hard edged and will keep the hardcore fans happy with the blunted rave stabs and demented vocals while Fire is more funky grime. The versions are the real stars on this ep. They take you on a journey through version, breakcore, rave culture and unhappy hardcore. This ep wont convert any more dub fans to The Bug, but may just appeal to some 1xtra listeners. Sadly it still wont be played on dancehall radio shows as its just not clean enough.
  19. There are quite a few HMHB albums in the central library. Andy Kershaw still has them in session every so often but they dont seem to like travelling to gigs much... Who needs to read newspapers when you can listen to HMHB! Dave
  20. Dalek are in session on the Breezeblock this week - enjoy... http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/breezeblock/tracklistings.shtml?focuswin
  21. I saw Jerry S perform up stairs at the Ltree three or four years ago. Could have been part of an alternative festival?
  22. There was a live review of HMHB on Planet Sound last night. They good a pretty good write up. I don't think they have played Adeen before, but they play Edinburgh annually... Dave
