  5. What a splendid day, really cool & lots of fun The castle gate event was brilliant I arrived late due to having to man the shop so I missed The Staccato Set (bummer) but just arrived in time for the end of Kathryn Sawers set who was wonderful and truly dark and wonderful And it was so cool to hear Kasule thru a massive sound system in a big space epic But I had to split down to Dr Drakes and help set things up for the evenings festivities The evening was wonderful I had a great time Rory McIntyre was great his first solo gig he did really well and played an excellent Smiths cover A big thanks to Chris Murty and a really big thanks to Amy, Euan and Dave whos set was blinding totally rocking I havent seen that many people dancing to a band for a while And it was Amys first Dr Drakes gig long overdue Thank you !
  6. That was a totally outstanding night with a truly blistering set from the Man Truly one of thee most furiously angry men on the planet who has one of the most unique rock shows on the road Really entertaining! Also a great set from Bill Ely & the Catnips whose slightly unnerving set was just the catalyst needed to create the right vibe for the MAN I had a brief chat with Matt just before he left he told me that Dr Drakes is his favourite venue outside the US and he stressed he wasnt bull shiting me He also told me he will be back in March 2005 so if you missed him this time you will get another chance And dont worry Ill be around to remind you all closer to the time
  7. Stuff to do on Saturday 30th October We are proud to announce that Dr Drakes will be the venue of the official after show party of the live event Shift which is taking place in the castle gate that after noon between 4pm-9pm featuring live performances from Staccato Set, the Aberdeen- & Edinburgh-based twisted lords of lounge blues; Kathryn Sawers, a local artist whose sublime and breathless vocals are accompanied at times by hauntingly delicate and brutal piano; Ursula Minor, from Kilmarnock, with electronica, guitars, big beats and spine chilling vocals; Kasule, from Coatbridge providing beautifully crafted songs with cinematic soundscape. This event is Free and will take place in a marquee complete with bar (which is not free) The evenings entertainment care of the audio dropout boys will kick off @ 9:30 @ Dr Drakes with The line up, Rory McIntyre, From Glasgow a young singer songwriter who will charm you with his melancholy style Chris Murty, Local solo artist who has his own unique style and is a refreshing change of pace Amy Sawers, Amy blends an outstanding voice with songs brimming with hooky melodies. She draws from the influences you would expect, P.J. Harvey & Patti Smith but also sights heavier bands such as Slayer and the stoner rock of Black Sabbath as a driving force behind her sound. Ably backed by her outstanding rhythm section she always delivers an entertaining show! 15. It all started when Matt McGuire decided to leave his hometown of Detroit and his band Forehead Stew and headed to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains and a life of snowboarding, But when he moved he soon really missed making music. And after a few failed attempts at forming a band with the locals in Boulder Colorado, Matt returned to his native Detroit. Still unable to source the right musicians for his project Matt hatched the plan of Anger & beer-fuelled-one-man-punk-rock by striping his music to basics, i .e. bone crunching fuzz bass riffs, thumping kick drum and angst laden lyrics delivered in a in-your-face almost evangelical style MAN INC was born and he was thirsty for beer!!!!! his early live performances were at local open-mic nights which must of shocked the performers of the usual acoustic strummy strummy fodder that you tend to find at these gatherings but Im sure he was welcomed by the more adventures who dared to listen . Armed with his bass, a large amplifier, and an even larger kick drum, MAN INC's "songs of protest" have now enthralled audiences all over America and Europe, MAN INCs shows are a sight to behold. totally brutal and upfront his songs are brimming with self-effacing humour. "You've got to have that, otherwise you're just an asshole," he says. MAN INC targets everything and everyone from lazy Hippies ("Hippie Down!"), Christianity ("Blue Law Sunday"), mindless mob mentality ("Fuck the Team!"), to genuine happiness ("I'm so Happy [i'm Singing in a Major Key]"). MAN INC is for real; his words and music will convince any non-believers of this. Do yourself a favour check out MAN INC His music will take your head clean-off and you will love it!!! www.beerforman.com LIVE @ Dr Drakes Sunday 24th October SORRY ABOUT THE SPELLING!

  17. I really dont get involved in threads like this but if your going start talking about overrated you can list faddy bands like Travis and Kean the fucking Thrills and all that vacuous shite thats everywhere right now but there is bands & artists who changed the world of music forever and even thou they dont appeal to your own personal taste you have to respect the people who paved the way for the artists you do like I dont think you should try and pin overrated on the likes of Jimi Hendrix (I dare anyone whose ever tried to play guitar to clame hes over rated) Black Sabbath (if you listen to stoner rock or metal you owe these brumies a great deal) Nirvana (I remember a world before them I bought there records @ the time and I was devastated when Cobain killed himself and they totally fucking rock and I find it weird that its still so cool to hate them) Sorry !
