  1. Haha! Thanks, and good points folks, theres been a few bust ups in the band as to how the vocals should sound....singing in a pop punk band for 2 years, my vocals tend to be leering that way but the other guys ain't going to let me off with that....although their ideas are like a more lifeless Ian Curtis (if you can imagine such a thing), we've talked about bringing in a singer, but I just hate being on stage with a guitar when I don't have a mic aswell....watch this space...
  2. Haha steve returns! Hear I've missed some emails over the past few years, ....drop me a PM with a location of a drop off point for the long over due CD's!!!!!! I know what you mean....guess I try and please too many people at once, and others suffer as a result.... happened with eradicate/spleen/toxik etc.....
  3. Hey there!! Just trying to get a bit of early feedback on a new band I've started....the band sort of fell into place during a side project and seems to be working ok, just wondering what peoples ideas are... The tracks are a bit rough, we just recorded them at the lock up on one of these... .....its not quite a Pro Tools setup See what you reckon, #1 has a bad mix, #2 is ok, and #3 has poor performance, but have a listen Song #1 http://www.inept303.com/newband/new%20band%20-%20song%201.mp3 Song #2 http://www.inept303.com/newband/new%20band%20-%20song%202.mp3 Song #3 http://www.inept303.com/newband/new%20band%20-%20song%203.mp3 Thanks...
  4. Hmm....sounding good.....you can go back and do takes on your vocals, over dub 4 more guitar tracks, C&P the speedy up slowy down drummers kick and snare, re-record the bass with a big valve preamp, mix in some of the crowd noise from Queen live at wembley......possibilities are endless!! If you're looking for any beta testers to the rig....give us a shout we're patient...honest
  5. DAMN! Would easily have given you 40 notes for that....
  6. I *think* this is actually prefabricated from a bunch of studio techies best anecdotes...word on the street anyway....in either case it does make for good reading and I'd actually recommend every band read this and take heed..... Can't stand the authors use of the word retard, guess its an american thing....
  7. I'm quite disturbed as to what the hell that pic is and how you aqquired it?!?!?!?!
  8. Not a fan of the band, although one of their songs which is overplayed on all the music channels contains one of the coolest riffs I've heard in a long time!! A--0--3-4--0--6-7--0--10--0--7--0--5--0--3-4-- D--0--3-4--0--6-7--0--10--0--7--0--5--0--3-4-- Heh thats a guess sitting at my desk at work....wish I had a guitar to play that on just now
  9. Std Drop D EAAGBE EBEEBE and sometimes some randoms.....
  10. Don't know the amp, but I'm guessing for a hard rock tone keep the gain below 5, give it plenty of mid, bring in the bass for a bit of depth, maybe even only 2 or 3, keep the treble reasonably low and brighten it with the presence.....that may sound awful, sounds good on the DSL, maybe a bit more bass than 2 or 3, the DSL has a bass boost switch so you don't need to go raming up the bass.... As for the metal tone, almost the exact opposite. You're going to need a lot more gain, I used to think gain at 10 was standard although if you listen to your music collection you'll notice bands don't pour on the gain so much, cos if they did, the definition of what they are actually playing would be lost. Definitely try 10 though Depending how brutal a sound you want, keep the mid very low, even try cutting it out all together if its a thrashy sound you want. Plenty of bass, you're going to need it to make up for all the mid you've cut out, I'd have presence about 5 and then bring up the treble just to sharpen it up, too much presence and treble just kills your ear drums...this might work for your lead sound, I don't really listen to the bands you mention but I'd guess use the neck pickup for a smoother sound..... This is going off memory as I don't have an amp or guitar here, but might help?? Experiementation is the key
  11. One I forgot...Ex-Cathedra.....while they have a lot of patchy material, their limited edt. EP (Anaethetised) is one of the best ska punk hardcore CD's I've heard.....make Capdown look like posers.... I've heard the Oi Polloi LP, I can't say I was overly impressed....half the tracks are old tunes rehashed, and I'm not too keen on a lot of the new subject matter "Let the boots do the fucking talking" "THC" etc....
  12. Engage Unique Freak Recidivist Quarantine Beergut 100 Bloodshot! Scatha The Newtown Grunts Japs Eye Shank (1st split EP) Divide & Conquer And of yesteryear.... Political Asylum Oi Polloi (everything before and including the "Guilty EP" The Clan (maybe not punk by the book...)
  13. In my experience bands don't generally apply for work permits as its a bit of a contradiction in terms......
  14. Awesome!!! Stir of Echoes is a personal fave of mine....if just for the line "I GOTTA DIG!" Awesome film though and have only seen it on the TV at home before
  15. THE KINKS at the capitol, 1994 I think....first local gig was probably 93/94 at the east neuk where I was playing some Hendrix covers....
  16. Can't believe more people aren't commenting on this!!!! This is one hell of a nostalgia trip for me....I read an interview with GD where BJ said that this album is gonna get be one where you remember rocking out in front of your mirror as a young kid, and thats certainly whats its done, in fact its been like discovering Green Day for the first time again!! When I first got into these guys they weren't forced in my face by the media , you had to seek them out, and I'm getting this same feeling with these MP3's...ie they aren't out there yet, its just an amazing song that you're one of only a handful of people that have heard it, and thats a great feeling, you just feel more attached to it and take it more all on board.....and hey thats not etlitist shit....its just a feeling that if you don't understand you're not a part of :D:D:D (yeah that elitist :D:D hehe )
  17. Hehe, Bloodshot! must have been the coolest guys ever...I lost touch with all of them when they all quite rightfully departed from Aberdeen.....a part of me died then....
  18. 80s punk eh? Years ago I would have spewed off a huge list but to tell you the truth, the more obscure bands from the 70s float my boat a bit more now....that said....always loved One Way System.....don't think their studio work ever equalled the live stuff I've heard. Loved Flux, although quite the oppositie to One Way System (and I believe they once support OWS at the 62 club?) they seemed to be an awful live band....Zounds are a firm favourite band of mine....seema bit more sussed politics wise, and great music to boot.....will always love CRASS although I fail to see how kids today could get into them??!? Dunno.... To be honest, when I look back now, the US must have offered way better punk bands back then...check Dischord records back then....and what did UK have,...Chaotic Dischord.....no thanks!!!!
