chilli
interesting music announce another evening of unique experimentation & exploration.::synergy::Friday 4th February 05 The TunnelsCarnegies Brae (Underneath Marks & Spencer)Doors 8.00pmDoor 5 Students 4an evening of very special atmospheric music with integrated visuals. tape (hapna label Sweden) 1st visit to Scotlandgareth dicksonvisuals sivdj specialtapeif you listen very carefully to tape's autumnal blend of gently plucked guitars and intriguingly organic electronics its almost impossible not to visualise the landscapes these pieces seem destined to score. the music made by this swedish trio - which comprises andreas and johan berthling (founders of the beautiful hapna label) and tomas hallonsten - is entirely instrumental and abstract yet has a comforting, reassuring quality. their sound is dominated by acoustic guitar, with simple Fahey-esque lines weaving their way through a tight winding path, surrounded on all sides by pulsating harmonium drones, horns, electronics, and hiss-filled whispered field recordings. tape have depth and intensity... their music is fresh and exciting yet reassuring... they comfortably, and seemingly effortlessly, straddle the barbed-wire fence between the accessible and the avant-garde. this is a very rare opportunity to see something really rather special...www.hapna.comGareth Dickson plays mainly instrumental music using solo acoustic guitar and analogue delay and reverb. The music is influenced as much by the ambient works of Brian Eno and Aphex Twin as by some of the great fingerpickers such as Bert Jansch, Nick Drake etc. The overall style is definetly minimal but melody based as opposed to being a soundscape. The songs are lyrically sparse and often bleak, employing the same cheery themes as singer/songwriters throughout the ages: death and despair. psydoll
I'm still not sure what I'm doing - if Felix DH is as much as people were saying it is last night there's no way I'm going, Delgados don't grab me that much and I'm not sure anyone'll want to head to Tape. Hmmmmm...I'll probably just have to sleep to recover from first week of full-time new job
