how can you sell out if you never sold in in the first place? hmmmm' date=' one of life's vital questions, like the chicken and the egg question.

but yeah, i think what you really wanna know is whether we'll be prog enough. either way, i'm only in it for the money.[/quote']

Ah well, you see sadly this is where your project falls down ;) Marillion are allegedly not prog and even old marillion is allegedly 'neo-prog' ( http://www.marillion.com/news/press.html ), we had this conversation at Drakes last night. Fish isn't doing much at the moment, ask him if he'll want to play tambourine. Obvoiously you'll need someone for moog solo and facepaint. I wait with bated breath to hear your cover of Kayleigh, Grendel and Brave ;)

I think next you might want to do a Focus cover band in the style of 80's metallers Krokus... Hocus Pocus Krokus...

Cheers

Stuart

so i really wanna be a neo-prog-pop-punk-emo band then?

and andy, i assure you, i had this vision of musical might all by myself. although i might get cluskey on board for the beats, just to make us seem really 'out there'.

neo prog surely ;)

Actually I went to see a band last week in Glasgow who are effectively a Fish era Marillion tribute band and they rocked big time, very accurate sound wise, and a great night out.

Well hopefully catch you on Fish's Misplaced Childhood Tour next Summer and if my plan comes to fruition you may even see Marillion's first foray to the North since about 1987 ;)

"Grendel !!!!!!!!!"

"Midnight suns bid moors farewell, retreats from charging dusk

Mountain echo, curfews bell, signal ending tasks

They place their faith in oaken doors, cower in candlelight

The panic seeps through bloodstained floors as Grendel stalks the night..."

Cheers

Oh dinna get me started :nono:

If its only the Fish stuff you've heard' date=' i'd suggest listening to some of the albums with Steve Hogarth on vocals. Albums such as Holidays in Eden and Brave show how well they have progressed as musicians and song writers.

If you have heard the Hogarth stuff, we'll have to beg to differ :']

The problem is, my opinion of (fish era) marillion is......well lets just say I believe their success was 100% down to the charisma and ability of fish (that doesnt mean I didnt think he was only capable of ripping off gabriel/genesis) I had no respect for the musicianship of the rest of the band....at all!!

Sorry Stuart, but you knew this already...

I did indeed, and to a large degree i agree, it was certainly the reason that they caught the public attention and the reason their live show was so popular. also know a lot of the backstory about them and Pallas, and agree about EMI favouring one band over the other, probably again due to the charisma or Fish. What's strange is I'd tend to think apart from a talent for 6th form poetry and great presence Fish is the least talented of the band then and now, it was the fact that the rest of the band were so good is why they managed to keep going. Although I admit in the days you knew them they did have probably the worst drummer ever in any band in the form of Mick Pointer, tho i've always rated Steve Rothery and Pete Trewavas very highly.

No reason for apologising mate you saw them in those days a lot more than I did, and you're more of a musician, I just enjoy what was committed to record back then :)

Cheers

Like I said I realy didnt rate the band, in fact I thought rothery was stunningly bad....but hey its just an opinion.

I think I said before, I would have loved to have seen Pallas fronted by fish..... :band:

But allas the pallas boys wouldnt have put up with fish's rock'n'roll excesses for five minutes :gringo:
