Those JV Squiers with Japanese build quality and Fender parts gave the USA built strats from the late 70s and early 80s a hammering; to solve the problem Fender allowed full production in Japan without USA parts. Those became the SQ and E series, which can also give many USA built strats a run for their money (I have an early E series in cream with maple neck, its excellent). Eventually they moved manufacture to Korea (as good/possibly better than some mexican guitars), and then China and Indonesia for the cheaper end of the market. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Played a few Classic Vibe teles and they have all been better instruments than an 88 US Standard I used to own - and that was a good guitar.Kevyrob, what Squires did you play when you came to your assessment?
