cheese_dust
i used to have an american girlfriend, we had endless arguements about the gig/show thing, according to her a gig was going to see bon jovi at a stadium while a show was in a bar or DIY etc, i think everyone will agree that she had it the wrong way round. Guest Bob
The word gig is usually used more commonly between musicians and during the promotion phase. We need to get a gig manYou guys got a gig yet?I hear there's a decent gig on tonightWe're playing our first gig next week, you need to comeCommonly, the gig becomes a show once the band gets on the stage and remains a show until the time the band exits the stage, whereupon both terms become interchangeable.Hey guys, hope you enjoy the showThat was a great show! Our first gig went well/Our first show went wellThese are not hard and fast rules, and there are a few exceptions to these guidelines, but following them will allow you to not overuse the word show and allow Teabags to get a proper nights rest. Dan G
I too dislike the pronunciation of the word 'gig'. It's an awkward word.I'm with this. The word gig just isn't particularly nice to say.Shows/gigs - it's all the same to me. Crazy world we live in where there is multiple words for the same thing!
