that HP advert with the guy and the two frames

It's called 'Out of the picture' by The Robins. The guy in the ad is actually a director of HP who just did it at first as a demonstration of the idea, but they liked him so kept him in. He's a French guy called Francois.

but how the fuck do they make the channel 4 adverts where the number 4 appears out of buildings and stuff?!

that's just clever angles isn't it? anamorphic perspective i believe it's called. there's a guy who does similar things who my lecturer put me onto called calum colvin: http://www.calumcolvin.com/

he projects paintings onto rooms then paints over them so the room becomes this mess of colour except for when you stand one precise spot when it becomes this wonderful painting.

those channel 4 adverts are cool though, must take ages to set some of them up as well.
