Just been wondering what are the best non chain store shops (think Christmas presents) in Aberdeen these days? It looks to me like 90% of shops contain the same stuff as you'd find in any major city so... ...who and where are the hidden gems in Aberdeen?

I've watched The Wire a while back and since seen The Corner, both which I enjoyed, obviously. I've collected a few series of The Shield over the last few months and just started watching it lately. After reservations of the first couple of episodes (mainly due to the lameness of Knucklehead Vic) I'm finding it very watchable and indeed look forward to each episode, I think I'm halfway through series three now. Maybe not as good as The Wire but certainly well worth watching I'd say. Recommended.

You'll probably also have to get a disclosure thing done if you go for it.

Check out the Coerver drills, some are quite advanced but not all. Plenty small sided games inc two touch, and using their weak foot only. Not too much stuff that involves queuing (shooting), especially in bad weather. Keep the kids busy at all times. Learn them that when you speak, they listen. When kids get stray footballs tell them never to pick them up when retrieving them, always use their feet. Even if the balls are stuck up a tree. Encourage, err, encouragement. As opposed to moaning at each other when they let a goal in. Have a meeting with the parents, tell them to encourage and support the kids. (not telling them to `go up` or whatever). Do not get distracted by MILFs.

Have I missed something or have French Wives been removed from the initial line-up? -
Fake sites sellingTITP 2011 tickets
geo1903 replied to Pierre Von Mondragon's topic in Music Discussion
I think its a fucking scam that the real site (and many others of similar ilk) are selling tickets a year in advance. With the farcical booking and postage charges these days its about time gig go-ers started to say a big FUCK OFF to these leeches. Oh, and why are two hour queues to get in acceptable? Have respect for your fucking customers. ps can you tell I'm hungry? -
Actually, thinking about it, your honesty is much appreciated. It must be tough to get the break even figure sometimes as I've seen a lot of almost empty venues at gigs in town lately. Its always good to see new names getting on the listings, but I guess their relative unknown-ness makes them more a gamble when the bills have to be paid?

Need bands with a good crowd pulling ability. Musical quality a poor second?

The Wire fans should also check out The Corner. Not the same but I enjoyed it. Great characters (imho). Liking The Wire... do I need to get The Shield? (havent seen any of it as yet)

Two ACE awaydays though. 8-)

Cheers for the replies lads. I decided just to bank it as normal in the end and worry about the delayed despatch to the customer when the time comes.Fingers crossed there's no problems with the payment.

Bit of a random request really. I've a cheque arrived today for my business and the customer needs the goods sent asap. Unwilling to send the stuff out without the cheque clearing (obviously, as its a new customer) so I call my bank (RBoS) to see how long it will take to clear. Six working days they tell me (wtf), which, will cause an `issue` if I wait that long before sending the goods out. So, is there a quicker way to get this payment cashed or banked? I know there is a money shop in Castlegate I think, but no doubt the charges would be hefty as the cheque's for just less than three and a half grand.

Give six bands 30 minutes or so each, over four nights or something. I'd attend that if the entrance fee was sensible. It'd be a change from the smaller venues anyway. As a punter I don't mind covers bands or tribute bands. Its all music to the ears at the end of the day.

Apart from there being a winner at the end, whats the difference between a Battle of the Bands night and a bill with say, six bands on?

Record store day...one up records...saturday 17th april
geo1903 replied to Steven Milne's topic in Gigs & Event Announcements
Rosemount was just the bollocks wasn't it? Many a Saturday morning spent in there just going through the records for no apparent reason. (you'd go in with money for one record, you bought it, but STILL browsed for ages). ACE! -
Good thread. Having lived in and around Inverurie for quite some time now I've always wished that someone would make an effort to put on a regular bands night in the town. I always recognise faces when you go to see a mainstream band `in town` so maybe these folks would make an effort on their doorstep I don't know. I saw AKA Ska and 16 Again at Premnay Village Hall, the place was packed and I think it was 6 a ticket? Really good night but with a (mainly local) audience that probably didn't expect the first bands set to send with a Dead Kennedys song. Anyway, I got into looking at venues in Inverurie just after that but it just seemed like so much hassle needing equipment for the pubs, the town hall was FAR too dear, and the local village halls needed licenses for drink, door security, just everything. Shame, as I'd really have liked to `do something` in Inverurie, even if it was just the once.
