  1. If you're happy to use a console controller then the 360 pads are USB and work with windows.

Otherwise you need to source something like this:

Amazon.co.uk: Powerplay Competition Pro 5000 Joystick (PC): PC & Video Games

That would certainly be the tits for a mighty Lionheart session on the miggy emulator:up:

I do have a USB converter for playstation, and a PS1 pad, which is ace for SNES emulation as the layout is pretty much identical! An xbox 360 controller would be great for playing FPS stuff but the D Pad is absolutely shit:down:

  2. I've been looking for one for a while now, but the only PC joysticks I can find seem to be flight stick types and that's no use to me. What I need is a multi button microswitched jobbie with a nice big base so I can sit it on my lap and play MAME and Amiga games with.

Any tips? I'd be happy if there's a console stick and USB converter I can purchase. My current solution is a PS1 dual-shock pad and USB converter, which is good but not quite the same.

  3. I'm going to make my own this weekend possibly. I will post photos of the results providing I don't injure myself with saws or screws.

Good luck, dude. I'd be interested to see the results.

Currently, I'm typing this with the support of something known as an 'ironing board,' with a couple of wee cushions for my wrists! Bit of a hastle everytime I want to get up and take a piss/make tea though, I suppose... Anyway, I'm just glad to have finally found a use for it.

  4. Hmm...I'm actually quite tempted to try and knock one up because I too have this problem about gaming and laptop-ing on the couch. Unfortunately, I'm no Handy Andy.

Me neither. I think I'm going to start with just getting a decent optical mouse mat and ponder the ergonomics of it all. I did find one or two products, but nothing that screams BUY ME.

    The LapDesk

    Phantom Entertainment - Phantom Lapboard

    (teh Phantom... LOL)

Computing On Demand - Belkin - Nostromo Speedpad n52

    http://lapinator.com/lapplus.php

    Ergonomic Lap Desk from Lapworks

    (more for laptops though)

  5. You could always fashion one out of MDF.

I had to look MDF up, but I might just have to as I can't find anything that looks like I'd be happy with it. Maybe I could just have the keyboard on my lap and a mouse pad to the right of me on the sofa... I don't think I'd want to play FPS games that way, but I could always get a USB 360 controller for stuff like that.

There's an entrepreneurial opportunity here, if anyone can be arsed!

*not to sell me a bit of wood. I mean, if you want to develop a product. I can buy my own bit of wood.

  6. I can get all Freeview channels, with only occasional signal breakup, with a 10 aerial I got from Argos. I am on the 3rd floor with a south facing window, though. Still, I was bloody amazed.

Currently, I'm with Plus.net but I'm not that impressed. I don't download much at all, but I find streaming video from Youtube is often throttled (to death) at peak times. I'll most likely go back to Zen after my 12 months, as they are the shit!

  7. Don't play any at the moment, the one I enjoyed the most was Eve but being podkilled in my very first foray into unsecure space ruined the love affair for me.

Keeping an eye out for new ones though, hoping APB turns out as good as it could be then I could be tempted to fork out a subscription again.

APB looks sick in every sense of the word!

I was thinking about Eve, but a lot of folks say it's actually quite boring and the guys who run it blatantly fix it, not that I'd ever get to a level where that would ever be an issue...

  8. I've tried a fair few of them over the years now - Eve, Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest, Planet Side, World of Warcraft.

The only one I still play is World of Warcraft. I was quite interested in Warhammer until I realised it wasn't Warhammer 40,000 which I was hoping it would be (that's what I used to play as a kid - still love it). So I don't think I'm going to try it. Have you seen the Lord of The Rings MMORPG? It looks quite good.

Yeah, I've heard Lord of The Rings is quite good so I'll definitely have a look at that before I choose, and WoW as I have some friends who play that. I don't even have a computer capable of playing any of them yet, so I'll have a month to check out what peeps are saying about Warhammer Online. The other new one is Conan, but there are some problems with that game, I hear.

I was more of a fan of 40K myself, also, so I'll definitely be getting the into the RTS game of that at some point. Still, Age of Reckoning has Waagh Boyz and Chaos hordes, which were always fun. I like the ye olde worlde style of The Empire as well.

  9. I had a problem with one of the Ian Livingstone Fighting Fantasy books (maybe Deathtrap Dungeon) where there was a page with an image of some undead skullfaced horror that was shit yer pants scary. I'd scream everytime I flicked onto the page.

And I got quite upset 'cos I couldn't stop the hawt elf lady dying (sad face)

  10. It's superb. The Rockall Times was a good attempt but not up to scratch, Daily Mash is much closer to the quality of the Onion.

This was my favourite Daily Mash story of the last few weeks:

SARKOZY GETTING IT TONIGHT - The Daily Mash

That was ace! He really can't stop smiling...

Anyway, back to the topic. Where is the amusing embedded code I can put on my blog/forum/myspace? I just wasted my employer's valuable time on this!

And why is there a distinction between hard rock and classic rock, but no drum and bass??? I suppose I get pigeonholed with the ghey glostick E-tards, is it???

    Fine.
