  1. SNAFU LIVE SPECIAL WITH THE PRESETS (AUSTRALIA / MODULAR / LIVE) - SUNDAY 9TH MARCH The Presets defy categorization in their recorded work, exceeding expectations above and beyond in sweat-drenched live shows that leave the competition for dead, and releasing videos and artwork as beautiful as they are twisted. Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes share a skewed, singular vision that reassembles pop music into a streamlined, sexy, scary creature, lurking in a corner entirely of its own. Along the way the duo have created a live show that straddles both rock and dance circuits in its infectious, sweat soaked sensibilities. From opening for the likes of Wolfmother, Colder, the Faint and the Dissociatives to playing to packed houses of their own, the Presets have officially come, seen and conquered. Currently the boys are on tour with DAFT PUNK! A sense of drama is no stranger to the Presets. A cursory glance at the cover art for Beams suggests a super-staged and unreal world, unparalleled since the cocaine castle fantasies of Fleetwood Mac sleeves from the late 70s. Not to suggest that The Presets are anything other than modern. Advance tickets available at One-Up, Snafu and http://www.clubsnafu.com/boxoffice http://www.myspace.com/thepresets http://www.modularpeople.com http://www.clubsnafu.com
  2. MIXTAPE PRESENTS CROOKERS (ITALY) WITH GILES WALKER - FRIDAY 15TH FEBRUARY Crookers are hitting it big on the current blog scene. Without a doubt the Italian duo of Phra and Bot are constantly delivering some of the freshest tracks around, taking the fidget house sound of Switch a step further and incorporating booty, baile funk and b-more influences. They are soon releasing a twelve-inch in the funk mundial series, which is bound to get euro-crunk fans and DJs hitting the dance-floor hard. This is a night definitely not to be missed. Advance tickets available at One-Up, Snafu and http://www.clubsnafu.com/boxoffice http://www.myspace.com/crookers http://www.clubsnafu.com
  3. MIXTAPE PRESENTS STACEY PULLEN (BLACKFLAG / DETROIT) WITH DISFUNKTION DJS - FRIDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2008 Stacey Pullen is the Kosmik Messenger. An innovator from the Second Wave of Detroit techno, he grew up under the mentorship of Detroit's legendary three: Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. Still continuing to produce his characteristic atmosphere laden electronic sound, Stacey Pullen compounds his reputation as a producer with that of being one of the world's most in demand DJs, playing weekly across the globe year in, year out. With a font of passion for music and performance that never dries up, Stacey Pullen still plays every gig from the heart seeking to surprise and engage, to provide an unforgettable experience, to offer up his unique catalogue without predictability - defying expectation. Above all, from his earliest attempts to the current day Stacey Pullen has stayed true to his one goal: to become and to always be an Innovator. As one of the very few Detroit DJs travelling to Europe, Pullen has still felt the need to provide some education about new underground electronic music from Detroit and otherwise. Stacey's reputation as a DJ became as much of a drawcard as his reputation as a producer, and he has become renowned for his long, experimental, adventurous and soulful journeys through music that last at least 5 hours. If his recent sell out gig at Glasgows Sub Club is anything to go by, his date at Snafu is going to be a monumental night in Snafus bolstering line-up. Tickets available now from One-Up, Snafu and http://www.clubsnafu.com/boxoffice. http://www.myspace.com/staceypullen http://www.clubsnafu.com
  4. MIXTAPE PRESENTS SLAM AND OCTOGEN (MARO BERNARDI) Following on from the rather massive Azure single, Slam bring you their outstanding fourth studio album HUMAN RESPONSE. Not content to stand still, this album sees Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle pick up the techno baton, twisting the genre even further still, to create a forward-thinking new sound all of their own. These are artists at their creative peak. In this technological age Slam utilise the human touch to inject a myriad of emotions into their electronic machine music. The end result is much more than a collection of tracks. HUMAN RESPONSE flows and grows and, in an era of single track downloads, Slam provide an album that you can listen to from start to finish. Octogen is the pseudonym of Glasgow producer Marco Bernardi (Soma Records). Widely recognised as one of the most forward thinking electronic producers around at the moment, his releases on Clone, Frustrated Funk and Emoticon have displayed his depth and mastery of his machines. From delicate electronica to razor-sharp electro via pure Detroit techno, Marcos productions are superbly crafted and have a radiance that sets them above the normal. Hes been honing his live set over a number of years at venues around Europe, of which a typical performance incorporates analogue hardware with cutting-edge software in a heady mix which builds from melodic, downtempo electronics to a floor-filling sonic assault. In short, they never fail to rock the spot. http://www.myspace.com/slamofficial http://www.myspace.com/marcobernardi Advance tickets available now at One-Up, Snafu and http://www.clubsnafu.com/boxoffice. A limited number of tickets will also be available on the door. http://www.clubsnafu.com
  5. NEW YEARS EVE SPECIAL BACK TO OURS HOGMANAY HOUSE PARTY WITH MASTER H (DIRECT FROM PARIS) PLUS FUNKY TRANSPORT AND MARTIN JAY As Scottish Nightclub of the Year, it's our duty to see out 2007 with a bang. It's House music all night long, as Snafu invite you to our very own house party. Master H joins a buffet of Snafu residents to mash up their record boxes and swing from the chandeliers, bringing you the best New Years Eve party in Scotland. The door's open, come on in! Master H comes to Snafu direct from Paris, following his gig at the club back in '05; and a huge amount of praise from the Aberdeen contingent, that ventured down to The Arches (Glasgow) for Septembers Pressure with Hawtin, Vitalic and Felix Da Housecat. Having entered the DJ arena at the young age of 16 he's gone on to produce and record a must have album - 13 - hailed by DJ Mag as "one of the best, most danceable disco infused, soul inspired, jazz tinged, funk fuelled albums of this century", he was asked to DJ at Stuart from Slam's wedding reception, has played with the likes of Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez, Kerri Chandler and Louie Vega, as well as fashion soirees for the likes of Paul Smith and Versace in Paris and New York. Spinning at one of those parties, he found himself DJing to the French godfather of house and techno Laurent Garnier. Garnier then invited Master-H to his private millennium party where they played disco records back to back all night long. And well if Garnier wants Master H to play his Hogmanay party, we must be doing something pretty damn special for him to play the Snafu Hogmanay Bash! Tickets available from One-Up, http://www.clubsnafu.com/boxoffice and a limited number on the door. http://www.clubsnafu.com http://www.myspace.com/masterhunit

  9. changing drinks prices is unfortunately the only way to sustain a small business. only larger multi-nationals can afford to keep their drinks prices low all week. at the end of the day our business isn't based on cheap drinks, and focuses on entertainment, which obviously carries an extra cost. with regards to your comments about djs, most of the snafu resident djs are also producers signed to labels such as Big Dada, 20:20, Farris Wheel and the like. and if you have witnessed a dj set at Snafu, you would realise that simply playing other peoples records is not how it's done here. our residents re-edit, re-work and cut-up "other peoples songs". i don't know a dj that doesn't play other peoples records - i think that would make them a band?? and even they play covers!!!
  10. the reason that it wouldn't be unfeasible is due to the fact that we really have virtually no demand for real ale what-so-ever. in addition, we have to look at what is most financially viable for us. as you know we have limited bar space, and it would be unjustified to get rid of one of our other draughts that is in constant high demand to replace it with something that has very little demand and would therefore only incur additional expenses and wastage that we are not in a position to do . as a club we probably pour a wider draught selection than most with tennents, staropramen, hoegarden, guiness, becks vier and cider. our fridges are pretty well stocked too - (brew dog - ale, peroni, tiger, corona, red stripe, budweiser, budvar, magners and koppaberg) so there is something for everyone! that's the best we can do currently!! and to answer your other question, brew dog retails between 2.70 during the week and 3.10 at weekends.(every club/bar drinks prices change depending on time of the week )
  11. hey chris, while it'd be great to pour a real ale, realistically it's not feasible. However, to cater for your tastes, we have Brew Dog ale in the fridge now, which is pretty damn nice 8-)
  12. There may be very little we need to tell you about this band other than explain the bizarre connection between Norwegian death metal, French club anthems and London super-producer Paul Epworth. It sounds like a particularly intractable example of the six degrees of separation game. However, these seemingly irreconcilable points on the musical compass are linked by French dance rock four-piece Black Strobe. Over the years, Black Strobe have developed into a thrilling live act, their mix of heavy rock/metal and electro/dance music blends together so succinctly that anyone would believe that this was a combination that was always meant to be mixed together. Helping Black Strobe assemble their wide-ranging and hugely ambitious influences was producer Paul Epworth (PHONES), best known for his work with Bloc Party, Maxmo Park and The Futureheads. Having written Burn Your Own Church in his home studio in Paris, Arnaud and the band recorded it at Epworths Eastcote Studios in West London over three weeks at the start of 2006. It was then mixed by Alan Moulder (U2, Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson). Front man Arnaud compares Black Strobe to Klaxons and The Horrors, a hybrid of the two isnt the worst description of our music! http://www.myspace.com/blackstrobe http://www.clubsnafu.com
  13. A wealth of DJing experience between them, Tokyoblu bring a diversity of music to both their club nights and their 8-piece band productions, which are as entertaining as they are unusual. Tokyoblu's style is difficult to define, encompassing everything salsoul, disco, funk, Latin and African edged beats, jackin' house and big room electro. Their releases and remixes have been championed by Fatboy Slim who hammered one of their 2006 mixes up and down the UK from Rockness to Global Gathering, drawing numerous press comparisons to the likes of Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada and The Greenskeepers. Most definitely not to be missed.
  14. We at Snafu are extremely excited to announce that on Thursday 25th October 07 - Snafu were crowned (SLTN) Scottish Nightclub of the Year, in Glasgow's Hilton Hotel! The competition was stiff, but hey we did it - the finalists for this presitgious category were: The Arches (Glasgow), Boho (Glasgow) and Snafu (Aberdeen)... We must be doing something right, right??! :princess: :princess: :princess: :princess: :
  15. Yeah you will need it... If it doesn't come through, take your driving licence and whatever card you paid for your ticket with and we should be able to cross reference with booking reports.
  16. as i said already, there is nothing we can do about the charges incurred by ordering tickets through a ticket operator... i guess if you do have a problem with charges then you should speak to the operators directly as it is a standard fee... as the event is only a few days away, the only option is to collect the ticket on the night, and with this option the charge is only 1 not 2.50. you get to skip the queue as well when collecting your ticket. hope that clears things up.
  17. Kerri Chandler A House Legend, An Icon, An Inspiration, A Key Figure, A true House Music Purveyor. This man gained legend status years ago. From the son of a father who was a DJ, he was well prepared and taught for his future to come. As for overtime to this present day, he hasn't moved an inch from where he stands from the rest of his producer and DJ's fellowmen. All his King Street Sound releases are landmarks. He has just released "Bar-a-Thym" and wow...No sign of his quality stamp are fading. Some classic cuts like "The Way I Feel", "It's The Music" and the beautiful "I Feel It" are in constant rotation in clubs around the world. Chandler is commited and loyal to the underground movement - his signature beats and deep basslines striking the crowd and wowing clubs and people all over the world to great acclaim. Look out for his next release which is set to be the 100th release on Large Records. If there ever was a Dj's Hall Of Fame, He would get the first star. http://www.simplycoolmusic.com Advance Tickets at http://www.clubsnafu.com
  18. this is Radio Skool and in the tradition of the school, we want to give you some edutainment. Roots Manuva Starting initially as a radio show compiled by A La Fu and hosted by De La Souls Maceo and Big Dadas Juice Aleem, Radio Skool was bootlegged onto CD and found itself in the hands of listeners worldwide and then ultimately a top five bestseller on New Yorks Turntable Lab alongside DJ Shadow, Coldcut and Blackalicious. Radio Skool then found itself in the live club night format and was based around a live radio transmission (also broadcasted on www.radiomagnetic.com). Previous shows have already entertained guests as diverse as Roots Manuva, Marlena Shaw, DJ Vadim, Prince Paul, Uncle John & Whitelock, The Sugarhill Gang, Mike Ladd, Dr. Alimantado, Youngbloob Brass Band, Andy Votel and Lemonjellys, Fred DeakinYou can attend Radio Skool every last Friday of the month with your hosts A La Fu and Kid Pro Quo in Club Snafu. http://www.vavarecords.com/ http://www.bigdada.com/
  19. i know that the postage and booking fees may seem a bit steep, however all ticket operators do charge this and there is nothing we can do about it other than recommend that you either check out one-up or turn up in time for the doors opening at 10pm and possibly face queing for a bit to get in. obviously bigger bands and guests cost us a bit more to get up here and put on - hence the more expensive door charge.
  20. Andrew Mason was bitten by a radioactive dust mite in the early '90s and transformed into DJ Monk-One, gaining superpowers and an unerring ear for the good groove. Mild-mannered Contributing Editor of Wax Poetics Magazine by day, he transforms into a crate crusader for soulful sounds by night, holding down residencies on New York City's longest-running hip-hop show, the Underground Railroad, and in nightclubs and dancehalls from Brooklyn to the UK. He has released two records of original music on ten12 records, and numerous CDs through Names You Can Trust, Fat City and other fine labels. Our very own Martin Jay (ex Estaminet / Goodfoot), is also on hand to remind us of what good records are. Harking back to the 70s and 80s when electronic gadgets brought out a fine era of disco, italo, funk and house music. Good pop is good pop... period. That's not to say 2007 ain't represented too... cos it most certaintly is... eclectisism through a far reacing radar. Advance tickets available at http://www.clubsnafu.com http://www.waxpoetics.com
