  1. FRIDAY 11TH APRIL // MIXTAPE PRESENTS ALEX METRIC (MARINE PARADE) // 10PM 3AM / 5ADV Size matters, and by any standard of measurement, Alex Metric's talent is large, as made clear by the release of his debut artist ep Whatshewants. At just 26 years of age, Marine Parade's newest signing has made a big splash as both DJ and producer. He's played gigs spanning the globe from Fabric in London to Eastern European festivals to Los Angeles clubs, and developed a significant rep for his work in the studio assisting superstars ranging from Adam Freeland to Darren Emerson. Nominated as breakthrough producer at the 2006 Breakspoll awards, Metric's also getting buzz for his own production work. DJs across the board have begun to sit up and take notice of his productions on a wide range of esteemed imprints, including Underwater, Fourtwenty, Lot49 and now Marine Parade, with support from the likes of Adam Freeland, James Holden, Laurent Garnier, Pete Tong, Meat Katie, James Zabiela and M.A.N.D.Y. Of late, Metric's completed official remixes for the likes of GusGus, Black Daniel, Sharam Jey, and Jape. Metric's productions are assured, drawing on a range of influences resulting in stark electro, indie rock, house and snares. Inspired by everything from Jacques Le Cont and Daft Punk to his obsession with bad 80's records and krautrock rhythms, Metric chops up the beats and vocals here like if he were Prince signed to Ed Banger. 2. FRIDAY 4TH APRIL // MIXTAPE PRESENTS VECTOR LOVERS (SOMA) AND LETS GO OUTSIDE (SOMA) // 10PM 3AM // 5 ADV http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/5133/vectorloversuc1.jpg Vector Lovers - From the deliriously frazzled mind of Martin Wheeler comes Vector Lovers, a self-confessed manga mad computer nerd and eighties obsessed knob-twiddler who has produced one of 2007s most irresistible albums with his eponymous Soma debut. The Vector Lovers sound encompasses beautifully emotive electronica and raw alien future funk. Bring on the droids Vector Lovers has hit on a sound thats more relevant than 99% of modern electronic musicinspirational, essential and as much a landmark release as Hacker & Kittens Frank Sinatra. Richard Brophy (DJ magazine). Prepare to be transported to the extraordinary world of Vector Lovers. http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/715/letsgooutsidedt2.png Lets Go Outside - Stephen Schieberl has produced electronic music for over a decade, taking the mantra Lets Go Outside as his moniker. Residing in Portland, Oregon where he first released on small local experimental label, Buried In Time, he soon moved onto Bradford-based Midnight Recordings before being picked up by Soma shortly afterwards. His discography includes everything from nearly silent ambient to the most destructive of techno, and all which lies between. Lets Go Outsides performances borrow from this immense palette to create a form of techno that defies genre. His weird and filthy techno hits you like a rusty chainsaw in the face... in a good way. DMC world champion three years in a row, its rumoured (falsely) that Q-Bert and his crew were banned from future competitions, the reason being other djs werent interested in entering a competition then considered a foregone conclusion. Instead, Q-Bert became a DMC judge. In 1998, along with Mixmaster Mike, Q-Bert was inducted into the DMC hall of fame. He is also credited with releasing one of the first turntable concept albums, Wave Twisters. His deft scratching also appears on Kool Keiths classic Dr Octagon LP. All the Aberdeen house heads are in a right pickle over this NE debut performance. 8. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii76/Claire2087FU/l_978dd6d37b472fa8140610dbbcbe58f2.jpg SATURDAY 23RD FEBRUARY THE DEEP END PRESENTS ASAD RIZVI (REVERBERATIONS / GLOBAL UNDERGROUND) WITH FUNKY TRANSPORT / 10PM 3AM / 7/6 Throughout his eleven-year career in dance music, London based house and electro DJ - Asad Rizvi has maintained the uncommon position of being a DJ and a producer who is respected equally in both crafts. But this is no fluke: years of hard work, an unbending dedication to his art, and an uncommonly versatile talent have yielded a career that only few can boast. Since his debut release in 1995, Asad's contribution to underground dance music has been second to none. With over 90 releases and remixes to his name, his recordings have gained a reputation for their diversity, warm production and dynamic, be it on the dance-floor or off. Effortlessly capable of creating anything from lush Brazilian-influenced vocal melodies to spine-chill-ing electronic basslines or Chicago inspired jacking beats to blissed-out down-tempo backing sections, Asad is more than your average producer. He has music and rhythms running through his veins. His versatile talent means that Asad has seen him playing to crowds of up to 20,000 people, taking him to hundreds of venues across the globe, including some of the worlds best clubs: Fabric (London), Pacha (Buenos Aires), Stereo (Montreal), Folies Pigales (Paris), Roxy & Mecca (Prague), Crystal (Istanbul), The End (London. Dubbed a "new school hero" by Muzik magazine in 1998, "Producer for 2000" by Mixmag, and a "DJ for 2000" in The Face; his distinctive sound has consistently won him avid support of jocks as diverse as: Danny Tenaglia, DJ Heather, Laurent Garnier, Terry Francis, Tom Middleton, Doc Martin, Adam Freeland, Gilles Peterson, Fred Everything, Danny Howells, Desyn Massiello, Mr. C and seemingly countless others. 10. this is by far one of the bookings for this year that i'm most excited about! tickets are selling pretty well, but there should be some on the door but i'd say it's probably best to get down earlier rather than later if you don't have your ticket yet... otherwise you can get yours HERE, Earl of Sandwich (the green), One-Up (belmont street), Attic (the academy), Retrospect (john street) and at Snafu... Good mix from the Crookers kids HERE milner - i disagree with your erol comment, personally!! i really enjoyed both, but for different reasons. his set at triptych last year was very commercial hence the accesibility of that set to most people, whereas the set in december was more focused towards the non-mainstream end of electro verging on tech.... both sets were banging, as was giles, his skills are legend! each to there own boyface.
  11. thieves like us tonight!! too many good reports to list here, so make sure you get down early!

  21. Aberdeen's high court of turntablism is represented tonight as the man behind some of the biggest hip-hop and funk shows the town has ever seen brings you his modern interpretation of 'salmon' dance music. Now don't get us wrong he doesn't technically play house music these days but there's a background of 4/4 (well maybe 8/4) with tracks from the Euro crunk mashers as well as the hip-hop-routed B-More world of Diplo, Spank Rock and M.I.A plus the techier angle of Modeselektor and Paul Woolford - and not forgetting FU's own edits, remixes and tweaks for the occasion!! Get down with the kids Y'ALL!! More on A LA FU. He's toured, supported and shared the stage with the likes of Gil Scott Heron, De La Soul, Afrika Bambatta and Blackalicious; appeared on TV with DJ Kool Herc, illustrating the art of DJing for MTV alongside Roots Manuva and competed against the Scratch Perverts at the first ever DMC Team Finals. His production work is stellar, working closely with Big Dada and Ninja Tune record labels and remixing work for Coldcut and Saul Williams. A LA FUs most recent project has seen him creating a lovingly-crafted, utterly blazing two hour mix of the Big Dada labels output in celebration of their 10th year in the business. http://www.vavarecords.com
  22. MIXTAPE PRESENTS VITALIC WITH KEV AND TRIGO - FRIDAY 21ST MARCH Vitalics debut EP Poney, tore through dancefloors across the world when it was released in late 2001. 2007 saw the release of his long-awaited and highly anticipated debut album - OK Cowboy. The album is as a mix of dance music, experimental, organs, French music, with strong electro and techno vibes. His Djing career began under the pseudonym of Dima, with a few sporadic releases on the Choice label. Being involved in the underground dance scene was where his career really took a turn though, when he became good friends with Michel Amato, AKA The Hacker, who suggested he sent his new tracks to DJ Hell. His tracks were picked up by Hells International Deejay Gigolos label who released Poney EP. The EP broke at the same time as Fischerspooner fever and electroclash madness broke and it became one of the biggest-selling 12-inches, played as a searing peak-time anthem by everyone from Aphex Twin to Richie Hawtin to Erol Alkan to 2ManyDJs to Laurent Garnier to Tiga. Releases such as LA ROCK 01, Poney and No Fun have catapulted Vitalic, and earned him credit with some of the best in his game, as well as worldwide gigs in some of the globes best clubs and venues. Advance tickets available now at One-Up, Snafu and http://www.clubsnafu.com/boxoffice http://www.myspace.com/vitalicofficial http://www.clubsnafu.com
  23. MOM THE VIDEO BROKE PRESENTS PEANUT BUTTER WOLF AND JAMES PANTS (LA / WASHINGTON) WITH MARTIN JAY - WEDNESDAY 19TH MARCH Peanut Butter Wolf - Founder of the critally-acclaimed label Stones Throw Records and peer of the likes of Jay Dilla (R.I.P), Q-Tip, MF Doom and Madlib, Peanut Butter Wolf comes from the good side of the hip hop tracks. Substance rather than style is the ethos at work here, and that is reflected in the quality of the recordings, productions and remixes he lends his hand to. James Pants- Along for the ride is recent label signing, James Pants. Heres what his Myspace says: James Pants is from Spokane. In Spokane there are lots of people with long fingernails and lots of dogs. In Spokane, rent is very, very cheap and so James Pants can afford to buy records and not work too awfully hard. A long time ago, James Pants started playing drums and marching in bands. After hitting cymbals for a while, James Pants bought cheap turntables and learned to scratch with Steppenwolf. James Pants' turntables skipped so much that he lost many battles and was never a good DJ. Then James Pants started playing Showbiz and AG, but no one liked his rap, and he was never paid. Then James Pants started playing Cameo and his drums again and people danced a little. Now James Pants plays his new album and a few girls like it. "Mystical and enchanting," is what people in Spokane say about it. Teenagers at the park like to dance and make-out to the new James Pants sound. "What a kaleidoscope," said one lady with her dog. "I can feel the universe pulse." This tour also sees the guys play the likes of Fabric, Chibuku Shake Shake, Manchesters Warehouse Project and Hi-Fi in Leeds. This will be a very special show! Advance tickets available at One-Up, Snafu and http://www.clubsnafu.com/boxoffice http://www.myspace.com/pbwolf http://www.myspace.com/jamespants http://www.clubsnafu.com
  24. MIXTAPE PRESENTS THE CAGEDBABY LIVE EXPERIENCE WITH MARTIN JAY - FRIDAY 14TH MARCH This will be Cagedbabys 3rd gig at Snafu, and on this occasion we are pretty excited to announce that this time weve managed to get our hands on not just Cagedbaby, but, The Cagedbaby Live Experience. Tom Gandey AKA Cagedbaby was crowned 2007s new boy wonder of dance; with his playful mix of seductive electro-pop, subtle techno rhythms, laidback party music and snippets of 80s power chords, making him and his music irresistible to all who stumble upon it. Following on from the success of Cagedbabys debut album Will See You Now, numerous global warm-up slots and gigs alongside the likes of Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers, Soulwax and Erol Alkan; Tom began to work away busily perfecting a live show that would match the fresh and driving feel of the album. And done it he has, the show is said to rival others, with performances taking on new dimensions; and the show hitting genuine levels of LIVE with no playback and no click track We are live, like Spektrum, or LCD or Soulwax" - Mr Baby. Advance tickets available at One-Up, Snafu and http://www.clubsnafu.com/boxoffice http://www.myspace.com/cagedbaby http://www.clubsnafu.com
