Has anyone else encountered a guy called John that comes up to you and speaks to you like he is your best mate and has known you for years? Me and my mate used to always be on the same bus as him, he would speak to us almost every day but each day he seemed to forget speaking to us. So we would have the same conversation all the time. He seemed really nice but at the same time it was utterly bizarre. I think he lives on Hilton Drive, at least that's where he would get on the bus.

On the subject of toxic distortion, it's a bit naive of them to think that they are getting slated in this thread because people can't handle them. As I'm assuming most people here are in their 20's, then I think they are fully capable of handling some folk in their mid-teens dressing like Nikki Sixx and Bret Michaels. I definitely can as glam is one of my favorite genres. It is even more naive of them to believe that any publicity is good publicity. It quite simply isn't when you are a local band and you are getting lots of bad press on a local band forum, all it is going to do is put people off from going to your gigs. I like the idea behind what they are doing (that is being a glam band) but, for me, they aren't that good yet and need to do a fair bit of work before embarking on this epic "US Tour" they seem to have planned.

His record is 3 as far as I know, but that was in a half hour set so still fairly silly. Gotta love him for it though!

The JVM series is good but mightily complicated. You can program in about 3 modes per channel or something like that. They are also quite pricey iirc. I'd agree with the other guys and go for a JCM 2000 DSL 50. one of the guitarists in WWN has one and it sounds fantastic. If you just want a combo then I'd recommend the JCM 2000 DSL 401, the same guitarist had one of those before the head and it was also great.

Only bands I know that are through are: The Marionettes, Liar's Dice, Cobra Kai and Which Way Now.

Nah, sorry man, I traded it in at RnB against my mates new PRS a couple of months ago, he just payed me the money they took off his guitars' price.

Yeah, we are the other support along with Hidden Leaves. Though we were starting to wonder ourselves as Attack! Attack!'s myspace still has Right Hand Left up. Anyway, hopefully see some of you there!

I recommend Gallien-Krueger, you should be able to get a 700RB-II head and a 4x10 RBH cab for a grand. You might even be able to get a hold of the more powerful 1001RB in that budget if you want some more headroom.

I never said that supporting bands should get payed the same or more than headliners, but surely they should get something for their services and music. Hence why I mentioned the 20 quid nominal fee, obviously that would be less than the headliners but it's something, not much, but I appreciate it all the same. I like to get something from gigs, be it exposure or getting to play/meet a band I'm a fan of. More often than not, neither of these are really possible in this city on a regular basis, thus a wee bit of money is nice for our several weeks/months of writing and practicing. To me it's far from "a 30 minute set" that we are getting payed for, as that set wouldn't exist without lots of rehearsal and practice on one's own instrument. Also, I tend to have to sacrifice work to play gigs as I work 5 nights a week, that means I can lose 40 quid a month to play a gig and probably piss off my manager.

I wouldn't say I expect to be rewarded with money for every gig I play, and I sure as hell don't count music as a chore in any way shape or form. But if one band gets money why shouldn't any other bands that play with them? Even if its a nominal fee of 20 quid, it's nice to have slight financial reward considering the amount of money I have spent on this hobby.

As far as I'm aware, and I may be wrong, Cafe Drummonds is free (was when I put on a charity gig a couple of years ago anyway), The Tunnels is 50 quid and Moshulu is 800. Not sure if they are correct and I haven't got a clue what other places charge. imo, if a out of town band is headlining (assuming they aren't signed/relatively big) then the local support bands should definitely be payed, as it is they who will pull most of the crowd through the door. That's what I've found when we have supported bands who are classed as national acts but don't have a record deal.
