  1. 78 year old Jerry Lee Lewis tops the bill at a festival in Norway this weekend. Rapper 50 Cent is also on the show but way down the bill. This news about 50 cent being on the show reminds me of Nice Peter doing his 50 Cent is a Pussy number at The Moorings. Check the words at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DubmxXno8s
  2. I was surpised at how many people on Aberdeen Music liked Alex Chilton and Big Star. Here is news of a video "Big Star - Live in Memphis" http://blogs.commercialappeal.com/the_bloodshot_eye/2013/08/bstar.html
  3. PM me your adress and I will drop one off that you can keep.
  4. I've met Young Adolescent - he reminds me of what I was like when I was his age - most thought I was very annoying But I know he is a good guy who does a lot to help people that are less fortunate than most of us here on Aberdeen Music. Keep rockin' Young Adolescent PS I forgot to say that video about Jerry's late manager also says quite a bit about why Music has been good to me.
  5. I hung a little camera on my cat. I was surprised at how far it went away from home and even more surprised to see it go though an open window where someone welcomed it and was feeding it bits of liver. Maybe it goes there every day. http://www.knightsaberdeen.com/new%20cat1.jpg

  8. I have been a member here since 2005 and I notice that this is to be my 500th post. I thought I should make it something special. This is a link to an interview I did in 2011 with Cecil Harrelson who was Jerry Lee Lewis's schoolfriend and later became his manager, songwriter, sound technician, Brother-in-law (twice). Cecil had a lifetime association with Jerry until his death a few weeks ago. We talk over a wide range of topics about music. Music has been good to me and that is why I keep posting and trying to help young musicians. I even had Bigsby and The Malpaso Gang play at my 70th birthday party. http://www.knightsaberdeen.com/Cecil.htm
  9. Following their recent return from a UK tour, The Marionettes appeared tonight on the second day of the "Wake The Deen" event at The Tunnels. The Marionettes appeared on what was advertised as the "Acoustic" stage. Paddy and the band played the loudest acoustic set I have ever heard and the stage setting, in the road outside The Tunnels, ensured there was little need for reverb. On youngster, perplexed by my suit and straight appearance asked, "Who are you?" I jokingly said, "I'm from Sony Records" but this was taken seriously and he said, "You should sign them - they are great - I go to all their shows." Suffice to say The Marionettes played a crowd pleasing set.
  10. The first day of the "Wake The Deen" weekend at The Tunnels has got off to a successful start. A large appreciative audience for Stayover - featuring bare-chested drummer David Milne. Special mention to the technical crew who fixed a faulty microphone in a matter of seconds. Marionettes and a host of others tomorrow.
  11. Apologies Dave - I was too taken up with thinking how hot Bigsby must be under the one he was wearing
  12. I have just seen the Malpaso gang at the Moorings. As it was a special Elvis night, The Malpaso Gang left their country roots behind and played a set that consisted entirely of numbers associated with Elvis Presley. Aberdeen Music Member Bigsby was resplendent in a large black Elvis wig but the rest of The Gang were in theri normal stage gear. Most of the music played was from the "Young Elvis" era including a selection of numbers first cut for Sun and then RCA. Some of the numbers were tunes that Elvis "covered" and the renditions of "Good Rockin' Tonite" and "Long Tall Sally" owed more the originals by Roy Brown and Little Richard than to Elvis. Scotty Moore would have been pleased to hear his licks being played in Aberdeen and I am sure DJ Fontana would have liked the solid work on the drums. Nina sounded great and when she was not singing she looked sultry and slinky with a unique dance style that would have pleased Mamie Van Doren. Bar Owner "Flash" was seen standing on a chair to get a picture of Bigsby in his wig. No doubt it will appear soon.

  16. Apple iTunes Radio's Licensing Agreements With Indie Labels Emerge The licensing agreement between Apple and indie labels reveals further information about the planned iTunes Radio service. According to a copy of the document obtained by Billboard, Apple will not have to pay for any content during the beta launch of the service, which can last up to 120 days. The service will allow listeners up to six song skips per hour, if they do so in the first 20 seconds of the song, and will also allow Apple to forego any payments on song skips. Apple doesn't have to pay for those song skips. While listeners can't rewind or start songs over, they can pause them and resume play. Also, Apple is allowed to display album artwork to listeners, and they can advertise to listeners what is playing at the moment on other Apple-built stations. The payment terms to labels, according to the document, calls for Apple to pay labels a royalty of $0.0013 per song plus 15% of net advertising revenue for the first year; while in subsequent years under the contract, the royalty rate would increase to $0.0014 per song play plus 19% of net advertising revenues. Meanwhile, the minimum royalty rate will consist of 45% of net advertising revenue plus $21.25 for each 1,000 listener hours in the first year and $22.25 for the remainder of the license agreement. The terms are similar to what the majors are getting but not exactly. For example, one major label source has indicated that first-year payment would be $0.001325. Other instances where Apple doesn't have to pay labels include any two songs in a listener hour where the performances are either coming from the listener's matched-music in their cloud locker or a complete-my-album play or a heat-seeker play, whereby that song is one the Apple has agree to promote on behalf of labels. Comment from me: It doesn't sound like the musicians will be getting much from this new Apple service that will compete with Spotify etc.
