Bass Station is 'ok' depends what you are looking for.. Personally I wouldn't piss on one if it was on fire.. It was supposed to be a 303 clone.. much in the same way a Lada is like a Merc.. K Station isn't too bad... with any synth depends what you want from it.. V-Station I liked so much I bought it.. and use it a lot... Oh and only a Moog sounds like a Moog.. (except prehaps when its an ARP infringing a Moog patent ) I know I've got 3 Moogs...

No point in getting in Mutt Lang to produce Kylie.. or Steve Albini to produce Bob Marley.. Most the names on the thread are Engineers, not producers, perhaps with the exception of NM but I'm not a big fan of his production style.. What model are the Numarks ?

I'm not using ProTools, but can offer some info.. The problem with ProTools LE is that it still attracts ProTools plugin prices. The great attraction of ProTools is the excellent quality of the plugins. Admittedly the best of the best are TDM, but most have been converted to RTAS and with a decent machine should still run reasonably well. Forget the Waves plugins, they are very expensive and not good value anymore, things have moved on since. Instead if you need good quality comps etc look at http://www.elementalaudio.com/products/index.html While your there grab the free Inspector plugin. Also check out the high quality plugins from http://www.sonalksis.com If you are working with vocals you will probably need to look at AutoTune - pretty much the product that made ProTools mainstream.. You don't mention how you intend to create your drum tracks or for what style of music, but many consider BFD to be far better than Battery: http://www.fxpansion.com/product-bfd-main.php You probably also want to check out FXpansions VST to RTAS wrapper, very handy.

Because Thomann are in the EU there is no import duty to pay, and their prices already include VAT. Only thing you may get charged for is the Euro conversion, but that depends on your bank.

mmm... this is interesting.. obviously the term 'punk' has changed a lot in the last 29 years What does punk mean now ? (serious question) To me it was about the ability for anyone to have a go at making music irrespective of the ability to play an instrument. Folks like The Pistols and Damned used to have the names of the note and strings painted/tippexed onto their instruments to get through a set... The idea of a solo (and a repeatable one) was heading back towards the prog rock movement that kick started punk into life... A lot of people see paralles in the acid house movement and dance genres of the late '80s and early '90s for similar reasons.. I've obviously missed a lot... where did punk lose its way ?

Unless you are plugging into a RIAA equalised input (normally marked phono) then yes you will need a preamp. Pro-ject do a range of these from about 45 upwards. although you can get cheaper 3rd party ones.

The proper Marshall valve stuff does one sound very well - the late 60's/early 70's British Rock sound, which was then re-invented again in the early '80s via Iron Maiden, The Cult etc. Depends if this sound appeals to you or not.. They made a name for themselves at a time when all the other British stuff was unreliable or designed for clean sounds like the AC30, and the American stuff was expensive and very difficult to get spares for (something necessary for gigging a valve amp of the time). The biggest attraction was that the volume goes up to 11, and the best sound is obtained playing at this volume..

somewhere along the way the thread got hijacked.. Melodyne is the business, if you've got 300 to spend.. All these types of software only work on monophonic lines, and work best with harmonically simple sounds

A DAT recorder and a stereo pair would probably give decent results, unless you had anything really elaborate in mind.. wind is probably the biggest problem..
