  1. Crashdown and Lazy Sheepdog have confirmed (Kinda!)
  2. i have almost confirmed the day, see the other link for more. everyone knows about the xmas themed song but they don't know about the deadline, i'll try to get in touch with them all tonight. sorry for the lack of communication alan, i've been up to my eyebrows with geology! h
  3. hello hello, sorry folks, due to being in 4th year, my uni load has been pretty ridiculous this year! nearly all the acts have been booked and the poster is almost ready. I'll let y'all know who's playing and more details by the weekend. So far confirmed... Stewcat (holy folks) Kitchen cynics Ry Walker Mark McCabe Tim Courtney Kathryn Sawyers Jess Yong Welfare mothers or Green Pony Delawair 16th December from 3pm
  4. Shows I've seen AND enjoyed in the lemon tree in 3 years and 3 months: Mylo Bloc Party Skatalites The Kills Part Chimp Bonnie "Prince" Billy Six Organs of Admittance Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit The Black Lips Akron Family and Howlin Rain Not that my taste or attendance to shows is any measure but 10 shows in over 3 years isn't a great innings. You often get as many good gigs (of similar size) in glasgow in a month, why were so many missed e.g. decemberists, interpol, clap your hands, explosions, my morning jacket... the list is endless. With the exception of Bloc Party and possibly the recent Akron Family/Howlin Rain i feel every show (especially "club" nights") would have benefited from being in a different venue. I always leave the lemon tree feeling i have been to a gig in an airport foyer (with airport prices). This along with often trigger-happy bouncers leaves the atmosphere turgid. Finally, in the time i've been in aberdeen the heavy reliance on tribute acts was detrimental, i accept they can be quite profitable but the integrity of a "cultural" venue is surely more important? - if you're making a loss, you might as well make the most of it! Better booking, promotion and more attention to atmosphere rather than a ridiculously expensive PA and soundproofing may have saved the place... but this is Aberdeen. People are still complaining about Drakes closing but the few times i was there, there was only about half a dozen folk in the place (one of which was Steven Dedalus... each time... Fun!). With gigs also canceled in Cellar 35 for people having fun, can the music scene win?
  5. Why i oughta!! Down't cha know i'm the most reliable karttian in the business!
  6. Yeah, the coast is amazing. As a geologist the causeway is rather dull, merely the allignment of feldspars. Recently on an Asian cooking programme, James Nesbitt of Cold Feet fame was asked "While helping prepare a Vietnamese dish he was asked if he had ever visited the Asian country" He replied "he hadn't - but that he had visited Larne which, in his view, was much the same." As for the English occupation... Hmmm!
  7. Much has been made over the years of the unusual question mark suffix to the band's name. Various theories have been ventured by fans, many of them bizarre. The truth is somewhat mundane. When designing the band's first home produced single, Andy Cairns misaligned the Letraset adhesive label on the sleeve, and used the "?" icon to fill the space. Well i'm sure Michael McKeegan told otherwise, who trusts wiki these days anyway?
  8. After reading the posts about Therapy?, i'd like to make two musical facts about Larne (small town north of belfast and my home for 18 years) known to the world! - Kurt Cobain's Dennis the Menace Jumper. When Nirvana played the King's Hall in Belfast in 1992, Kurt Cobain pulled a punk being beat up by bouncers onto the stage and told him to go back stage. Here he was met by Courtney Love who immediately admired his jumper. Offering around 30 for it, the punk handed it over. When Kurt came of stage, Courtney was seen pulling the jumper over Kurt's head The punk returned to Larne, 30 up, minus a red and black stripy jumper! - Therapy? - Ever wondered why the question mark exists? The cover of the first self released Therapy demo was a photo of a well known night time feature of Larne. Larne is set in a valley. If one stands on one side and looks at the other valley slope, the street lights of Whitla's Brae make a distinct "Question Mark". This was then incorperated into the Therapy? name! - Fact! This is why Larne is the most important town in Ireland, this does not suggest you ever visit, let alone stay in the place!
  9. A Therapy? show was my first ever gig, both us and the band being from the Larne area, my friends and i thought it apt . As the tickets for the Mandella Hall in Belfast specifified it was an over 18s show, and being only 15, we doctored our bus passes... suprisingly this didn't work. However, due to working in Number One Records, at which the Michael Mckeegan was a frequent shopper, i had aquired the mobile phone number of the support band's (Throat) drummer. Ringing him on a payphone (15 year olds didn't have mobiles in those days), we managed to persuade him to put us all on the guestlist... he did! However,to prevent us buying booze, we were only allowed to stay in the balcony/backstage area and not into the pit itself. Trading a backstage pass with a guy solved this problem and he tended our alcohol needs all night, while we watched the Throat's (with Therapy? lovely guys) and Therapy's sets from our balcony view. My unstumped, signed ticket along with backstage pass sits pride of place at the bottom of my ticket stump box. As we were leaving the bouncers who denied our access at the start, told us not to come back til we grew some pubes. I never have... gone back! Good times!
  10. Sunday, September 30, 2007 CRASH LANDING Do you think humans have as many lives as cats? I certainly hope so because I know they must be fast running out. From a couple of very near drownings, as a child sleepwalking my way off a 5m balcony, almost being squished by a Spanish express train and to, most recently, Friday's falling off the stage at the concert in Belfast. I remember it was dark, had just finished verse 3 of Cruise, and was heading back to the instrument table to let Philip unleash his '50 questions' when suddenly in a split second everything changed: flat out on a cold floor looking up at the ceiling not being able to move. The good news is that the heavy duty painkillers are now doing their job, and there's no permanent damage, just torn muscles and some exotic bruises. The paramedics and nurses at the hospital in Belfast were, despite working under testing circumstances, extraordinarily warm, friendly and dedicated; and as surely as they won't be reading this, I'm compelled to say a huge and sincere thank you for everything. Many, many thanks also to everyone who has sent messages, it really means a lot. "Thursday, October 04, 2007 CRASH LANDING 2 Just came back from the hospital and it seems I was initially being a bit too optimistic: there are in fact 3 broken ribs and so I'll be holed up and out of any meaningful action for around 6 weeks. Oh well, here's to free codeine and reading all those books you always wanted to have time for. Sincere thanks once again to everyone who's written. Posted by William Bennett at 4:35 PM 9 comments
  11. You'll get a job with Pitchfork someday RF, someday! Anyway, Ghosts of The Great Highway (1st SKM album) is brilliant. As are the earlier RHP releases, they got a bit middle of the road by the end.
  12. PVH are Sexomatic, but I'd rather listen to Errol Brown and Hot Chocolate

jees-o this is just like an online version of hollyoaks.
  15. hello, i have misplaced (lost or had nicked) my boss overdrive pedal (yellow). I used it at the Moorings last saturday (18th August) with Kartta. My equipment then spent a couple of nights locked up in the tunnels and by tuesday the pedal was no more! It has a green strip of electrical tape with settings stuck to the top and a strip of velcro stuck to the bottom. If anyone has seen it or picked it up by accident could you PM me. Cheers Hx
  16. Surely the opportunity to support the local 'scene' by adding local bands to bills should be reason enough? For example, the recent Gallows gig in the tunnels was a sell out, how many of the kids going to that show would be going to see a local band (if there was one); probably none. However fans seeing a local bands name on the poster, forums and at the gig itself boosts the identity of the band, possibly leading to busier gigs in the future etc. I agree flooding a bill with local supports in attempt to boost punters is detrimental to an evening. Though surely the step from playing shitty gigs to ten drunk people to a room full of actual music fans (even if they have never heard you) should be given to the varied local acts in Aberdeen. Pity i missed the gig, but i was still reeling from the Twilight Sad! H
  17. we should be on at about 8.30. Were you not at the "I had an inkiling" dizzy storm gig?
